The trip to London, Oxford, and Dublin taught me so much more than I ever thought possible. The experience truly opened my eyes to global business, and made a huge impact on my education. Coming into this semester at CU I wondered if business really was the right career choice for me, but this trip changed my perspective entirely and validated any previous doubts. The trip, most importantly, proved that there are so many opportunities out there in the business world because before this trip I had very little exposure to looking into business environments, cultures, and interactions. The visits that we took to Google, Zayo, IMB, Barry Callebaut, CBRE, and more far surpassed any of my expectations. The early morning treks to different …show more content…
That initial visit opened my eyes to all the possibilities that lie ahead. Our previous visit to Google in Boulder gave me a little insight on what it would be like, yet the visit was still better than any of my expectations. Google was a great company to start at, as it set high expectations for the rest of the companies to follow.
As we continued through to the various company visits, I learned so many things about global business. The office cultures all seemed to be carefree, yet still very productive. When people think of business they think of small cubicles in office buildings, but these companies proved again and again that business can be fun and profitable simultaneously. Trips to the Feldon Forest Farm, Roadside Tavern, and Burren Smokehouse all demonstrated that you do not have to be a huge name brand to have a global market and be successful. Ultimately, my favorite company to visit was CBRE, so I wish to explore the real estate area more. Visiting this company expanded my views on real estate and all the various aspects that come with it. Having multiple American employees there for our visit showed that it is still possible to go global within the real estate industry. Prior to the visit I was interested in this career, but CBRE made me
Studying abroad will be an experience of a lifetime. Going beyond the US Coastlines that I have never crossed will get be valuable life lessons that I must learn to be successful in my future career. I want to increase my knowledge both inside and outside of the classroom, and I believe the best way to do that for me is to continue to go beyond those small town borders that have kept me
The website includes information about the current market and trends along with neighborhood guides. An outline is also included in this section which further reinforces what the mission statement says regarding leading the real estate market. This outline breaks down the companies ranking in New York City as #1 firm, Long Island’s #1 firm, the 4th largest real estate firm in the United States, the number of office of 81, 6,000 agents, number of sales and rental transaction of 37,800, dollar volume per year of $22+ billion and concluding with the property management having 55,000+ apartments under management. The mission statement does seem a bit short and to the point for the size of the company. However, it is very clear about being a leader in the business and exceeding customers’ expectations. I believe it does need some revising due to the company having expanded to the South Florida market in the past 5-6 years. South Florida sales volume being very impression of close to a $1 billion in sale per year. The part “From Manhattan to Montauk” should include South Florida since they do have a significant presents in the Miami area market. The website does state office in California, Connecticut, Colorado and New Jersey. The areas should also be added to
During the following summer, in 2015, I participated in the Bucksmore’s OASP Program at Oxford in order to confirm my initial thought. There, I took Economics and International Business Management as majors. The courses and the teachers were fascinating. I was delighted to discover new concepts and ideas and to participate actively in the debates within our group. At the end of the program I received straight A’s and appreciative comments from all my
CBPRO is a leading real estate company in Virginia, an independent franchisor of the Coldwell banker brand since 2001. CBPRO’s business focuses on residential real estate services such as selling, buying, and leasing houses; has 299 agents in 13 offices. The residential real estate industry is influenced by the ups and downs of the economy. In good times it fuels consumers confidence and spending, and in bad times consumers are cautious and not willing to invest in a house etc. CBPRO had a breaking sale of 2,848 percent in the first three years of services and during the plummet in the economy, sales flattened down to 2.5 percent, as was the case with the industry in general. (Coldwell Banker – Virginia Beach, Page 279). Due to high competition in the residential real estate industry (especially locally), coupled with fluctuating national economic conditions, and narrowly defined target customers, CBPRO faced several distinctive challenges; residential and clients lists were important to CBPRO business and to its competitors, especially the local competitors.
With lack of opportunities and inadequate resources, people are unable to escape poverty. As our world becomes increasingly interconnected, I believe no one should be left behind. I am choosing the George Washington University (GWU) because I want to acquire business knowledge with an international focus and society in mind, join a network of individual with the courage to reach difficult goals, and gain credibility as I strive to make an impact on peoples’ lives.
Brandeis’ Myra Kraft Transitional Year Program truly encompasses what it is to be aware. Aware of how technology forms a huge part of the modern world, aware of our past and sociological patterns, aware of our physical environment and how humans affect it, and aware of our cultural diversity. In the process of transitioning into college, I would like to challenge and prepare myself for what is to come as a Brandeis University International Business student and as a social activist of our world. I understand that to have a business function on a global scale, one must be able to deal with technology and be able to reap the benefits it brings. Initially, I plan to start small, a local business, but then I plan to expand my business overseas via web. When economically feasible, I will expand the
College is a time for new opportunities, memorable experiences, and a time to explore things you’ve never encountered before. As a young adult, I realize the importance of studying abroad and how it will help me grow as a person. What could be better than traveling to Spain for ten days and learning a new culture, history, and a new perspective of how the business world is outside of America?
I thought my day at Kings University College was pretty awesome, probably because it was my first time at the campus. I felt they were really welcoming and the food there was so good. To be honest, I thought this trip would be very boring, however, I was totally wrong and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole day. I was really glad that I took part in this because the trip provided me with a lot of valuable information. When the two mentors, Fisher and Chirag told us about their experiences with international students, I felt like their experiences were valuable for young mentors like us. I learned how mentorship is a mutual relationship as both the mentor and the mentee benefit from this relationship. The tour around the campus was the one of the
Through this internal assessment I have learned about the challenges of bias that historical events pose. Bias is found in archive based-history, through the primary sources that are available, which then easily transfers into the investigation, as it can be very difficult for a historian to stay unbiased when writing.
While I was packing my bags to set off on my second biggest adventure, coming to Iowa State being my first, I was feeling nothing short of ecstatic. Yes, I may have had to step out of my comfort zone of being around in a familiarized area within Ames or being around my best friends at ISU, but I was ready to explore new lands and make new friends. And the next four and a half months in London proved to be exactly what I had in mind.
In conclusion, I was given the opportunity to room with girls from Peru, Hong Kong and other places around the country. I’ve gained lifelong friendships with people in Africa, France, and New Zealand. I was also able to teach as well as learn from different cultures. Nevertheless, this experience has opened the door to a horizon of possibilities, from this experience I learned that I would like to major in travel and tourism with a minor in art and experience cultures first hand by exploring my horizon while traveling and learning about different
Baseball is one of America’s greatest pastimes and an iconic game that captures the imaginations of all age groups. Today, baseball is one of the most popular sports in the world and the aura of the game brings people together from many diverse backgrounds across the globe. There are many different elements that bring fans to the ballpark to watch their favorite teams and many of these elements are not directly correlated with the on-field action of the game. The atmosphere at a baseball game is fun, relaxing, and enjoyable because of the numerous attractions especially in the new modern ballparks across America. There is the food attraction which has become a staple across American dining cuisine simply know as ballpark food.
An expensive, but effective way of entering the lucrative Chinese buying real estate market is to exhibit properties at real estate trade shows in China, that’s why many international real estate companies come to China to participate in real estate exhibitions
I like to do the college visits during the travelling. I went to the Wharton School, Harvard University, MIT, and etc. There are all beautiful and traditional campuses. In addition, visiting the college is a good opportunity for me to increase knowledge, and I think it is also the important experience of my life.
The five weeks of the Cultural aspects of international business course have been a truly enriching life experience for me. I must admit that I was a little skeptical about the value proposition of the course as I thought this was going to be one of those purely theoretical pro-diversity lectures with no potential for practical application. However, the fact that Professor Lane co-authored the textbook intrigued me so much (I have never had a Professor who actually wrote the textbook for the course) that I decided to give it a chance and sign-up for the course.
