Philosophy Statement
As I reflect on the years that I have worked in Higher Education, my passion and dedication in the field has been driven towards experiencing the growth and development of students. My tenure in the field began at a Historically Black College and University in which also happened to be my Alma Mata. Now 10 years later, I would never imagine that I would still be working in a position to help cultivate and develop the minds of our future leaders. My career thus far has allowed me to work at a Community College, where I have taken a keen interested in the leadership involved in Higher Education. This interest has allowed me to continue my education as a part of the Morgan State University, Community College Leadership Doctoral program.
Objective
Through this program, I have undergone the task of performing an internship. Upon selecting my internship site, I wanted to ensure that it was held at a location that would provide me with leadership experience as well has assist with developing both personal and professional skills in the area of Student Affairs. I have always worked in the area of College Life/Student Life and I have been looking for an opportunity to expand my career beyond Student Programming and Clubs and Organizations.
Projected Learning Experience
As a result I decided to embark upon my internship journey at Prince George’s Community College, University Town Center Campus. I selected this site for several reasons. University
I am a current junior in the John Glenn College of Public Affairs. My career advisor, Alexander Toomey, has directed me to this internship. I have finished my previous semester in Washington D.C. as a John Glenn WAIP fellow. This experience has deepened my passion for policy advocacy. Because my degree focus is in education policy, I am especially eager to work with the firm knowing it has assisted clients in K-12 and higher education policy. Though I have specific interests in education policy, I am eager to learn and assist with any policy advocacy.
I am passionate about help making a difference within the LGBTQ community. By improving the well-being of the LGBTQ communities. My underlying goal is to help serve the HIV’ AIDs community in order to help loved ones. My reasons for wanting this internship is to become an allied for both LGBTQ and HIV/AIDs communities. I will do this by having an open mind and being mindful of how others view individuals within these communities. I want to help to spread knowledge and awareness around AID/HIV and help get rid of the negative connotation around the LGBTQ community. I am passionate about helping individuals get their voice back. With my crisis intervention skills, and caseload experience, I believe I will be a great assess for this
My principal, Mr. Darnell Payne, had such a presence in our school, it was almost impossible not to be in awe whenever he came into the room. The way he was the superb leader of our school, but also took the time to be concerned with every student. As a nine-year-old student, all I knew was I wanted to be like Mr. Payne. Someone who was a leader that set a great example for both my colleagues and students. I really felt like it was something I must do. A graduate degree in Educational Leadership is my next step in getting closer to completing my journey. In 2006, when I enrolled at Troy University, I intended to accomplish all the goals I had set for myself. As I was choosing my major, I would sit and think about what it was I should do with my life…what was I good at and what was the purpose of my life. I saw life as having no meaning unless you are constantly giving back with the talents and skills that have been bestowed upon you. Therefore, with this realization I knew that my life’s purpose was “giving back”. While at Troy, I worked to always leave a positive impact on any person I
Since I graduated from California State University, Los Angeles in May 2017, for the 2017-2018 academic year, I would like to gain more life and work experience while continuing to be involved in my community. I will volunteer at a hospital, and tutor elementary school students and adults in literacy at my local library. In the meantime, I am looking for an internship at a pharmaceutical or biotechnology company as a quality control or quality assurance analyst. I am also traveling to Europe in spring 2018. Educating others is something I am always trying to do wherever I am.
There are challenges that everyone faces in their lives. Some people deal with difficulties as minor as baking problems, some struggle with the pressure of sports or deal with tremendous amounts of social anxiety. For me, many of the problems I face are related to my academics. This past year has produced some of the most strenuous situations. One of which has been the convoluted choice of which classes to take. School is everything to me, because I look forward to a bright future. So, I take classes that I believe will be most beneficial to what I want to do in life.
Author Robert Fritz once said, “Too many young people are being taught to give up their dreams before they have any experience attempting to pursue them.” I chose the field of Student Affairs because I wanted to make a difference in the lives of students, especially in a transformative time such as college. Through my undergraduate experience, I have seen former students become Resident Assistants, Orientation Leaders, Campus Justices, Emerging Leaders, Peer Leaders and more, where their influence will ripple to engage other future student leaders. Knowing that I am able to assist students in pursuing their dreams gives me confidence that they will give back to another avenue.
I am writing to apply for the Frankfort Internship Program. You visited two of the political science classes I’m in and both times I thought the opportunities you mentioned sounded like a great fit for me. Before this year, I’d never taken a class in the political science department, but after thoroughly enjoying both of my classes this semester and being very interested in politics in general, I think that applying for the Frankfort Legislative Internship Program is a great way to continue to add to my college experience. As a freshman, I resided in the Service Living Learning Community in Threlkeld Hall. There, I began to broaden my awareness of various social issues in America, partly through an internship at Iroquois Library.
This internship opened many doors leading to my future. This would not only help me academically and financially, but would also provide me with
I am applying for a summer internship with the Rockefeller Foundation as part of the U.S. Youth Employment team. My interest in working for the Rockefeller Foundation stems from my passion for philanthropy and service. Since high school, I have always made an effort to do things that would help make my community better. As an intern on the U.S. Youth Employment team, I will have the opportunity to apply the knowledge I acquired inside the classroom to help implement positive economic and social change.
I began searching for an internship spring semester of my sophomore year. I was looking at various places for example, non-profit organizations, county of DuPage, and companies that dealt with marketing and advertising. My cousin Ashley told me that the non-profit organization (Teen Parent Connection) she worked for had a public relations intern opening. I immediately applied and began the interviewing process. Thus, I secured the position of Teen Parent Connections development Intern. Through my reflection paper I will discuss my expectations for the internship. I will then go into detail about the objectives I completed during my internship and finally my likes and dislikes.
I am keenly interested in the Social Responsibility and Policy/Government Affairs internships because I hope to pursue a career in which I have the opportunity to help others through community support and/or policy. As a junior at Dartmouth College, my liberal arts education with concentrations on government and anthropology has taught me the importance of community-based organizations in a healthy democracy. Moreover, I know that international businesses have a mutually beneficial role in supporting local organizations due to the resulting intrinsic satisfaction
During the summer semester of 2015, I was given the extraordinary opportunity of completing an internship at Aircon Engineering in Cumberland, Maryland. Deciding which internships I wanted to apply for was difficult. There was a few criteria that I was looking for. First of all, I wanted an internship that would apply to my major in business administration. Secondly, I wanted to work for a small company or a company that operates like a small company. I thought working for a large company would be too stressful given that this was my first experience in a “real” job. Lastly, I wanted a work environment that was flexible and desirable. To depict those qualities about a company I had to research their websites. I explored each
College is all of what you make it. You meet many new people, and see many faces. You will start new friendships, and possibly end some that you’ve had for a while; just know that it’s okay when it happens. Friends come and go, especially in this big transition. That’s what the college experience is, one big transition. Whether you are moving to a new city/state or even just moving down the street, college is a whole new chapter. It does pay off to be social in college, but you still need to have that balance of social and academics.
“When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a certain point on the floor, it’s to enjoy each step along the way.” (Wayne Dwyer) There is no description or analogy more accurate to describe my experience both watching and performing dance this past semester at Connecticut College. As a freshman, it was difficult to move forward with dance in a new environment since I have had the same dance experience for 15 years. I found myself equating movements and steps to styles more known to me; I was searching for comfort among the abundance of unfamiliarity. The challenge was to embrace modern dancing for everything it entailed. Through watching both professional dancers and other students, as well as improving my personal technique, I certainly feel that I have found a new appreciation for dance.
When I first started my journey at Oklahoma State University I had no idea of the adventures and learning experiences that I would embark on. Little did I know it was the beginning on a life changing experience. From the very beginning I always had a passion for working for families, children, and the community. I’ve been selfless for as long as I can remember, and I have always believed that if I continued to be that person I would never give up on my goals or the desires that have to make a change on my campus as well as my community. When I chose to major in Human Development and Family Sciences I knew that I would have to complete an internship my Junior or Senior year. I had no idea how I was going to find one or how I was going to prepare for it; but my professors, fellow peers, and especially my academic advisor supported me and help guide me to finding my internship. As I approached my Senior checklist and final enrollment appointment I was explain to my academic advisor that I was worried about finding an internship in order to complete my degree requirements. She quickly calmed me and explained to me that she may have an answer for me. She passed along a quick background and some contact information and the following week I met my site supervisor.
