During the summer semester of 2015, I was given the extraordinary opportunity of completing an internship at Aircon Engineering in Cumberland, Maryland. Deciding which internships I wanted to apply for was difficult. There was a few criteria that I was looking for. First of all, I wanted an internship that would apply to my major in business administration. Secondly, I wanted to work for a small company or a company that operates like a small company. I thought working for a large company would be too stressful given that this was my first experience in a “real” job. Lastly, I wanted a work environment that was flexible and desirable. To depict those qualities about a company I had to research their websites. I explored each …show more content…
Their mission is very thorough and to the point. The first part of their mission is to handle their sales and transactions effectively and efficiently with as little problems as possible. Since no company is perfect there are always some problems that arise. Whenever a problem does occur the employees at Aircon team up to solve it together, and I believe that that drives them to do better in the future. The last, and most important, part of their mission is to leave their customers 100% satisfied and wanting to come back. Although Aircon is not a nationwide company they do distribute abounding items to many areas in the region. The majority of those areas are Western Maryland, Central Pennsylvania, Northern Virginia and the Eastern panhandle of West Virginia. They stock and sell a lot of parts and equipment. The majority is parts for heaters and air conditioners, and also the heater and air conditioner units. Some of the brands that they sell are York, Honeywell, Wirsbo, Mitsubishi Electric, Source 1 Service parts, Bosch and many more. They are currently in the midst of purchasing another building and warehouse near Altoona, Pennsylvania that will be another branch of the company. Aircon has a friendly and hardworking staff. The staff includes Engineers, sales persons, warranty and service personnel, delivery drivers, a marketing specialist and a full accounting
The process of finding an internship was very stressful for me. I honestly had no idea where to start or even what I was interested in. It took me many weeks to do research into different facilities that had internships available. After calling tons of organizations I finally interviewed at one that felt right for me. The interview took place with Laura Crain, who I also interviewed for this essay. The internship is at the McHenry County Substance Abuse Coalition.
Through a partnership with Northrop Grumman, I develop my own projects with mentorship from a team of engineers. During my junior year, I utilized Java Eclipse and Android to develop and copyright a mobile application that digitized my high school’s school map, making navigation much easier for students. Due to my spectacular performance, Northrop Grumman offered me a paid summer internship. In collaboration with a team of my peers and the public works superintendent of the Fairfield Waterworks facility, I built a robot capable of diagnosing cracks and leaks in water main pipes. Over the summer, I also attended an eight-hour workshop about soldering electronics. This project garnered several awards at the Ohio State Technology and Engineering Showcase. Now, I am currently developing a low-cost Arduino-powered smartphone with WiFi capabilities.
As an accounting major, I would have preferred to intern for a company that would utilize my accounting skills. There were not that many accounting and finance opportunities that were offered for this semester. Sadly, there was a student who dropped the internship due to the lack of accounting firms who were interested in taking on an intern. However, the internship organization was flexible and accommodating to all the interns. Chris Gaines has been a vital part of the internship program. My experience has been positive due to Chris Gaines direct interaction during weeks where we met as a class and always readily in

As the low-cost leader, Southwest spends an inordinate amount of time focusing on its mission, vision, culture, and goals. This concentration allows Southwest to rank as one of the 100 Best Companies to work for in America. The employee’s attitudes and efforts lead to fewer customer complaints and more on-time arrivals and departures.
Building the Brand: Southwest Airlines is well known as a Texas-based company that has a human side and a “down-home” attitude. Because of its large size, Southwest Airlines uses a variety of larger promotional methods, such as national advertisements and strong public relations to promote an image of a fun-LUVing brand. But, flight crews are the closest interactions that a customer has with the product, budget flights, which are a simple, undistinguished product. The quirky commercials and cheap flights appeal to a target market that is budget-conscious but still enjoys the fun side of life. The flight crews bridge the gap between the fun, unique commercials and the actual flight experience. By interacting with customers and joking around with passengers, they are able to grow customer allegiance in this market by acting in the same way that the brand has tried to portray itself.
This internship has played a huge part in my decision to pursue a Master’s degree in Nonprofit Organizations, as I have learned more about how a nonprofit is run and been able to see the impacts this organization has on so many people. During this internship, I have designed two websites, helped run a successful fundraising campaign, helped with our Facebook and Instagram accounts, taken pictures, and created many videos displaying the incredible things our organization does on a daily basis. Through this experience, I have been able to witness how much of an impact I can have just by being an intern. Being able to serve people with my talents of design and marketing in the office and seeing that benefit people outside of the office has been an eye-opening experience. For a long time, I thought that serving others was best done with hands-on service such as what I did on summer staff. However, during my time in the office, I have realized just how much work and effort goes on behind the scenes and what a significant impact it makes on our participants and their families, as well as our staff. Seeing all of this during this past semester has made me even more confident in my decision to pursue a Master’s degree in Nonprofit
As I approach graduation, like many before me, I wondered what I was going to do with the rest of my life, with the hope of finding a career path that I would love. For me, I always have thought about furthering my education by going to law school or getting into politics. As I grappled with the decision of what would by my next step, I started to look for jobs in line with my qualifications and interests. My sister sent me the link to this internship, telling me to apply and saying that she knew the job is something that interests me. The moment I opened the link I was filled with excitement. This was the opportunity I was looking for! I am interested in this internship because it is an exciting opportunity to experience the operations of
The situation that brought me from my first internship to the second one was frustrating and difficult. Nonetheless, it provided me with beneficial learning experiences for my career and life in general. One of the silver linings of interning at these two considerably different internship experiences was increasing my knowledge of two different types of business. The first of these areas was in the Non-Profit organization at PACS, where their mission is to empower individuals who are struggling. The nonprofit industry has always deeply interested me, and what I learned at PACS only fueled that interest. The time I spent at PACS was brief and ended abruptly. Nonetheless, I learned valuable and significant information and gained an understanding of the various business characteristics that are essential in nonprofit organizations.
While reading chapter four, the term “empathy” caught my eye and a sparkle appeared because I tend to experience the world from others point of view. The saying, “treat others how you would like to be treated” is implanted in my brain from when I was a child. Which has helped me overcome obstacles in my adult years. I will illustrate two incidents in my life where empathy plays a major role.
