My cooperative position as a recreation assistant working with the elderly at Brookside Court and Hilltop Place has provided with an immense amount of benefits. It gives me the opportunity to witness and shadow the life of a nurse, work around individuals who share the same passion as myself and helping the elderly continue to enjoy each day to the fullest. Meaning I am given hands-on tasks to perform each day that reflect on the job of a nurse. It is through these tasks that I realize how tiring the job of a nurse can be. However, I continue to enjoy the tasks given because I don’t have many opportunities to do so. An example of helping the residents is taking the residents to wherever they want to go as they may not be as physically independent as others. I also assist the nurses with simple tasks such as checking up on the residents by visiting their rooms to ensure that they are okay and don’t need any assistance. Another reason as to why I enjoy working at my placement is because I get to work with people who share the same passion as me, and that is working with the elderly. Just like my supervisor’s Patrick and Samantha along side the nurses and caregivers, we all have the same passion of helping the elderly and that’s why were all there, to make their living situation easier and more eventful. At times I find it frustrating and I tend
“Working in a Hospital everyday is a new situation, so it keeps you on your feet. You don’t know what type of patient you may come across everyday. You interact with patients daily and give them their medication a certain time according to the medication. Other tasks involve you giving the patient's chart to the doctors. Sometimes when I go with the doctors on their rounds, i have the opportunity to counsel the patients about recommended course of
One thing that makes nursing a good career is the difference that I can make in someone’s life. Although it requires commitment and dedication, nursing is one of the most rewarding professions. It’s about caring, listening, thinking, organizing, and leading. Nurses make a difference in their patient’s lives by providing hands on care and assisting complete strangers in leading a healthier life. The warm feeling of ‘helping others out,’ giving back to the community, and influencing the success of nationwide healthcare makes nursing an intrinsically rewarding career field to pursue. Nurses are helping patients and families during their intimate times of need.
“Definition of a nurse: To go above and beyond the call of duty. The first to work and the last to leave. The heart and soul of caring. A unique soul who will pass through your life for a minute and impact it for an eternity. An empowered individual whom you may meet only for a 12-hour period, but who will put you and yours above theirs”-Anonymous. For the past year and a half, I have volunteered at Blaire E. Batson Children’s Hospital. It has been an amazing experience! My passion for the medical field and career of nursing has been magnified. I know without a doubt that nursing is what I want to do for the rest of my life. I long for the opportunity to care for my future patients and their families. I want to touch other people’s lives just as I have witnessed nurses do throughout my time volunteering. God has given me a passion for nursing. With my passion and compassion for others, I know I will be successful if admitted into the BSN program.
My personal nursing mission statement is changing and developing as my career advances, however, one core piece will remain constant. I will strive to provide the best, safest, most ethical and compassionate nursing care that I can for all patients and family members with whom I come in contact. I began my post-high school academic career as an accounting major. I enjoyed the challenge of manipulating a report until I had balanced. I thought I had found my calling. As my first semester was nearing an end, I found myself contemplating the thought of sitting behind a desk all day. I wondered
After I finished my college I was involved in various jobs ranging from shop assistant to owning my business, however I never experienced total contentment and job satisfaction, therefore I decided to find something which is fulfilling, so I started searching for paid and volunteering positions in care homes, furthermore in year 2000 I resigned my job in marketing and joined a local nursing home as a health care assistant. Where I supported clients with various health care needs and assisted registered nurses to provide a high quality of patient-centered care, my duties included, washing and dressing, feeding, helping clients to mobilize, toileting, bed making, monitoring patients ' condition by taking temperatures, pulse, respiration and weight and generally helping with patients ' overall comfort.

As a home healthcare nurse, I enjoy working in the community. I also enjoy helping patients
We often hear that nursing is an art and a science, and I firmly believe that. The way a nurse blends those aspects of care defines the nurse. As nurses, our roles in our patients’ lives vary depending on their needs. We are teachers as well as technical experts, and our ultimate goal is to ensure our patients and families are ready to take over when the
The nursing profession is a challenge. As a nurse, you must remember every day that you can both alleviate suffering patients by administering treatment prescribed by a doctor and by a good word and a smile. For a good nurse should not matter how hard the day was, how much trouble it encountered, but must remember the core values of the profession and why he/she chose this profession. Nurses play an important role in the healthcare system. This is why they have been correctly referred to as the heart
The profession of nursing is often looked at as taking care of sick people or treating physical well-being. Many do not realize that nursing encompasses so much more than that. It is very important to me to have a positive attitude that transfers to my coworkers and patients. I want to be committed to helping those in need and desire to be able to be a confident health educator. I think it is very important to use the knowledge I have in my area of expertise to instruct others where it is needed. I would like to be able to say I gave the highest quality of care that I could at the end of each day. I realize that not everything will always be perfect or smooth, and there is only so much I can do. However, many of the rough patches can be eased with hard work and a good outlook. I want to be able to form great relationships with my colleagues as well as the client and facilitate everyone working together. Nursing is a respectable profession and I hope to contribute my own compassion to the entire community.
Staff nurses have great responsibilities in caring for patients. Often, these nurses experience heavy workload. Heavy patient load and stress contributes to burnout. Why is burnout important to discuss in relation to nurses? Burnout affects the performance of the nurse and the quality of care he or she provides to the patient. Therefore, it is imperative that staff nurses decrease the possibility of burnout and increase or maintain excitement and enjoyment in the field of nursing. If nurses do so, they will find joy in their work and quality of patient care will be increased. Contributors to burnout and
The greatest aspect about nursing is that it is never going to be just a job and is even more than a merely profession. Instead, it is a belief system or way of life and not a discipline that can simply be practiced then abandoned to the dictates of a time clock. To simply say that “I love people” or want to “help people get better” does not demonstrate the drive behind this feeling. Articulating my philosophy is not an easy task, to better explain my philosophy of nursing, I am going to use some values that I have learned. These tools truly explain how I feel and what has motivated me to pursue nursing as a career.
That is, to be able to work alongside those who are as passionate as I am when it comes to performing tasks at hand. These team of professional in this week’s clinical rotation not only displayed their passion, but also their devotion in their respective field. Furthermore, each showed professionalism, working cohesively with each team members even during the tough and stressful stretch of the operation. Therefore, observations such as this clinical, allowed me to experience first hand the working relationship between various professions in the healthcare filed and enabled me to obtain a greater perspective on the roles that nurses fill. So, when I finally make it out of nursing school and gets the chance to work with these so called maestros, I would be fully confident that I am in tune while honing my
It is this job that developed my desire to work in the healthcare field. After researching the different options available, I focused on respiratory care. I independently set up a job shadow with a Respiratory Therapist in a hospital. This job shadowing experience only ensured me this is the career path for me. Therefore my job at the nursing home is beneficial because it provides an opportunity to learn valuable skills that will help me in my respiratory therapy career while earning money to fund my education.
My role as a nurse's aid at The Meadows of Kalida has been a meaningful job for the last three years. Working as a STNA has provided me the opportunity to work positively and compassionately with the residents, and develop my skills in the healthcare field. This is a fulfilling job because I enjoy helping residents the same way I will when I become a physical therapist. The individuals I assist, as well as fellow employees have shown me the meaning of life and selflessness. My work as a restorative aide has also given me first hand experience in the therapy department. I work with patients and support them as they complete physical exercises specified by the nurse. Since I am working towards becoming a therapist, this opportunity has provided
