This does bring to light the story of Wilber Underhill, “The Tri-State Terror”. He started out with small crimes in Joplin Missouri, but later became involved in numerous robberies and killings in a three state area. He was greatly feared by people in Missouri, Kansas, and Oklahoma. His criminal career ended in a gun battle with the FBI in Shawnee Oklahoma. Wilber Underhill was the first criminal ever killed by the newly formed federal agency. By 1933, at the age of 32, he was at the top of America’s most wanted list. Very little was known about him until reading this
Another significant reason why the guard is to blame is because of the guard’s actions at Kent State during that dramatic weekend. The guard handled the situation very unprofessionally and unfairly at Kent State. For starters, the guard should have never been so forceful with students over a peaceful assembly. The guard used tear gas and force to disperse a crowd of young college students (“The Kent State Shootings: May 4, 1970”). Despite all of the accusations made by the officers, there are still not any justified reasons for the shootings: All of the officers claims have been disproved. For example, the guards thought the protests were illegal, but the ban on assemblies was signed into effect until May 5, making the assembly, in the students’ eyes, legal (“Four Students Killed”).
In May of 1856 Senator Charles Sumner of Massachusetts delivered a speech called “The Crime Against Kansas” which involved murderous robbers. Two days after his speech Preston Brooks felt his family was dishonored by the speech so to get the honor back he visited Sumber and beat him senseless with a cane. Although there is never a good time for something like that to happen, it was terrible at that moment because the county was still battling the issue of slavery and this did not help it..
Born on November 9th, 1970, Lisa Vanderbeck grew up in a very close knit neighborhood, always doing things with her neighbors, whether they were thirty years older than her, or ten years younger. One person who she was extremely close to was a friend of her moms, Mrs. Louis, who lived five doors down from her. Lisa, her mom, and twin sister would go over to her house at least once a week for “Avon Lady Day”. They would drink coffee, and hang out with the other neighbors who attended.
After the fatal shooting of Michael Brown, an unarmed, 18 year old black man by a police officer of Ferguson Missouri, the community took to the streets in a movement to protest a pervasive racial tension that some believe may have caused the shooting. Amidst riots, marches and other public demonstrations, Ferguson mayor James Knowles has given statements and interviews to the press to address both the tragedy and the allegations of racial conflict and profiling in Ferguson being at the root of the tragedy. Among these press appearances was an interview on the Steve Malzberg Show, four days after the shooting, wherein Mayor Knowles’ efforts to perform PR damage control give insight into how he views the town, and how some authority figures
Amidst all of the violence surrounding not only the United States, but also the whole world, I felt like the July 7th Dallas Shootings interested me. The attack took place on a Thursday evening during a Black Lives Matter Protest. The protest came shortly after the deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, and occurred in many major cities that evening. After reviewing many different stories from both CNN and Fox News, I found one article hours after the attack occurred and one about one week later. This story definitely had a large amount of coverage online, in newspapers, and on television. The content of information was similar, but the article published one week after the killings had more accurate information since more become known
Recalling around the age of ten, he spent two repulsive weeks with them. Each night after his grandmother took her medication and went to sleep. His step-grandfather went into his room and threatened to harm his grandmother if he told anyone what he did to him. A few nights later, unable to remain silent any longer, Andrew told his supposedly, loving grandmother everything. She surprised him by saying, “Your grandfather loves and treats you special. He would never hurt you or allow anyone else to harm you.”
While the Tri-State is more than 1,000 miles from Sutherland springs area pastors are responding to the tragedy. Church leaders say the Texas shooting is sparking a conversation amongst their members about what unfolded and what can be done.
This article tells the story of a white police officer shooting a black man in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Terence Crutcher, the man who was shot, fathered four children and according to his family was a “devoted Christian.” Crutcher was described by police as a “big bad dude” seconds before being shot.
Women have been discriminated against throughout the history of the United States. Women were typically associated with being “mothers” and having to take care of the children along with other so called home “duties.” They were not allowed to vote until fairly recently. Astonishingly, women in the United States were not allowed to have their own bank account before 1974. There is no reasonable excuse for such restrictions, except to keep women under the control of men. Altogether, the United States’ has a history of discriminating against women. Women have historically been treated as second class citizens, especially in the workplace, which kept them from doing certain jobs that were meant for men. The reality is that women have proven more than capable of doing labor intensive work. World War II proved that women were more than capable of replacing men. Women’s rights in the United States have definitely been improved, but they continue to be discriminated against in the workplace.
We are deeply saddened by the tragic shootings last night in downtown Dallas, the loss of life of so many police officers, and injury to officers and citizens. It is a horrific reminder of the brokenness of our world and its need for prayer and healing.
Crime rates have several different factors that can affect them. There are things like population, geography, customs, and laws that can manipulate a crime rate to change substantially. Therefore, is it so important to not only look at the crime rates for the United States as a whole, but also by individual states as well, because not only are there differences between our national level of crime and an individual states, but there are also differences between the crime rates in different states as well.
1. There are two main issues that point out why multicultural education is important. One important issue that Banks and Grant make for the case of multicultural education is that in a population that’s as diverse in other races and ethnicities as America, it is necessary to bring up awareness of other cultures, experiences and perspectives because if the perspectives of racial and ethnic minorities are ignored by teachers when they teach students, students are going to be miseducated and prejudicial towards people of color (Grant 332). Another issue that Banks and Grant make for the case of multicultural education is the fact that multicultural education allows teachers to reach students of diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic statuses.
Coaches need to be supportive, encouraging, experienced and competent and know how to include everyone and ensure they are treated them with respect and dignity. One of the most important factors of being a coach is to have the ability to control participant’s behaviour and create a motivational environment which will increase their self-esteem, confidence levels and overall development.
Book censorship is when specific materials are removed from public access, which causes American schools to face challenges and curriculum modifications. To understand why book censorship exists in America, the land of free, I will be conducting a research that will expand my knowledge on why books are challenged in society, the process of censoring books, and the educational impact of book censoring. I will also be exploring court cases, groups that challenge school materials, and ways to avoid censorship in schools. The resources that will guide my research consist of political cartoons and writers that have witnessed book or material banning. With the help of the authors’ and illustrator’s experiences, I will understand the purpose of censoring
