I can relate to the “moving away from people” strategy of defense from Horney’s theory. Moving away from people was either a normal defense (natural movement) or a neurotic defense (uncontrollable movement). One of the consequences of living in a neurotic household is moving away from people. Growing up in my family, my father and I were the only two Jewish people. Even though I am mixed with my mother’s West Indian side, the rest of my family only saw a Jewish girl. I was constantly teased and made fun off. Children at this age would usually cope with withdrawal. Due this behavior I started staying home and not attending social gatherings. It lasted for such a long time; I decided to join the United States Military to get away from everyone.
1.1 Explain how and why person centered values must influence all aspects of health and social care work:
Person centred theory came from Carl Rogers who believed in being warm, genuine and understanding make a difference in clients’ condition and its improvement. Believes and values are very important in person centred thinking and planning. Carl Rogers identified three main core conditions that have a significant influence when supporting vulnerable people, which are an unconditional positive regard, empathy and congruence. However, later on he expands his list to a six core conditions in total.
A Psychoanalytic Theory of “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?” Inspired by a story about a serial killer who seduces and murders teenage girls known as, “Pied Piper of Tucson”, Joyce Carol Oates' short story, “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?” portrays a teenage girl, Connie, who suffers from many psychological disorders such as insecurity, low self-esteem, and fear of intimacy. Her social life and the relationship with her family are examples of what may have caused Connie to run off with a mysterious older guy, leaving readers clueless of what happens next.
The movie “Breaking Away” presents the story of a young man from working class origins who seeks to better himself by creating a persona through which he almost, but not quite, wins the girl. The rivalry between the townies and the college students sets the scene for the story of four friends who learn to accept themselves as they "break away" from childhood and from their underdog self-images.
put your opinion in e.g. I believe this perspective can help an individual who has a fear or phobia by seeing why the individual is so scared. I also think that the behaviourist perspective can help measure changes of a behaviour. On the other hand I feel that the behaviourist perspective doesn’t take in the biological perspective.

The principles and theories of Social Psychology are important and useful in assessing behaviors in situations. These social psychological principles and their applications can be seen in fictional films which can also be attributed to everyday life. One such film that holds certain social psychological perspectives is Will Gluck’s 2010 production of Easy A. A film about high school student Olive Penderghast and how a sudden change in popularity and financial status, after an unintentional rumor about how she supposedly lost her virginity to a college guy spread through the entire her school. The film draws on the behavioral connections of pronounced hussy Olive Penderghast and her English class’s assigned reading of The Scarlet Letter.
Differentiate between Freud and Erikson's approach to psychoanalytic theory in this lesson. You will examine and compare developmental stages side by side and have the opportunity to test your knowledge with a quiz at the end.
Psychology can be applied to everyday life in many ways. The three main ways Psychology applies to my life is through motivation and emotion, Stress and health and Psychological therapies. These topics of psychology are the ones that best describe my life. When most people think of psychology they think of therapists and psychological disorders. Psychology is much more than that and applies to everyone’s life in some form.
Taking a Psychology class has taught me a lot about others and myself. I have learned a lot in this class and the information I retained will stick with me for the rest of my life. The knowledge I have gained will help me in the future by allowing me to be a better actress, CEO, and mother. The most important topics I will need are Lifespan Development and Psychological Disorders. These subjects can be unknowingly important when crossing paths with other people.
Another possibility is implied that a person may resort to bullying due to issues in their own home which are unhealthy. Maybe a lack of love, kindness, or attention causes a person to lash out at others as an outlet for their pain. A need for attention could be a contributor to this type of negative behavior. Perhaps a person acts out via bullying because it gets them noticed as opposed to being civil or polite. A person may act out due to failure towards academic achievement or some other goal that the bully may find value in. [Why] A bully may act as such when in certain situations where value is not placed on how people treat one another. When people fail to address a bully’s behavior as inappropriate, this manner continues and often progresses negatively over time. When someone attempts to imagine how a bully views their actions, one may wonder if the bully feels guilt or remorse over their actions. Leon Festinger, a social psychologist, suggested a theory. This theory is called cognitive dissonance. [Robertson] This theory suggests that humans are very inclined to be consistent in all areas of our life. Therefore, when a bully begins
In the future, I ultimately intend to be a psychologist. With being a psychologist, I am taking on the responsibility on how to lead people into having an overall better life and promote positive change for them. Psychologists often specialize in studying and examining the brain and human behavior. That being said, psychology is a very important branch of science that attempts to help us stay sane!
The age old question of what it means to be human can be answered through many viewpoints. There are several specie specific qualities that differentiate humans from any other creature, but with that being said, humans are often compared and contrasted with animals and machines. Some of these specific qualities are the ability to interpret, free will, and the use of language, but what does it really mean to be human?
Authored by Keith E. Stanovich, How to Think Straight About Psychology is a known work of the psychology world which was published in 1986. Beginning courses in psychology use his text frequently. Stanovich primary purpose for writing the text is to bring attention to his observation that the public’s understanding of psychology is different from psychology as a modern science. Psychology as a modern science explains the underlying functions that shape human attitudes and behavior. To the people who misunderstand this, the field of psychology is not a real science, but a pseudo-science instead. How to Think Straight About Psychology describes people’s several false impressions of psychology and it gives its readers a factual understanding of the field as a modern and scientific psychology while explaining how this science works.
