More Than Just a Teacher When I first met my 9th grade English teacher, I never imagined that she would make such a tremendous impact in my life. Teachers are much like a second parent, you spend just as much time, if not more with them than your parents. My parents fought a lot and the constant fighting between them was unbearable.
I was sitting in my U.S. History class, when I heard the intercom click on. “Mr. Z, could you have Adriana report to the office? Her mother is here.” I slowly collected my things and headed to the office. I walked there slowly trying to figure out what could be going on. I open the office door and there was my mom. “Will you go get your books and take them to the library?” she urged. “What’s going on?” I responded. “I just withdrew you from school, hurry up, we have to go.” My heart sank. One minute I’m in class and the next I’m heading back to my locker to collect my belongings. The school year had just started and this was all of a sudden.
We began to make our way through the parking lot and she begins to tell me she purchased a home in Oklahoma City, we lived in Moore. “Does dad know about this?” My father and I had always been very close; it turns out, he didn’t. My father owned a construction business so he was always busy with work. My mother handled the money aspects of the business so I could see how she could have purchased this home without his knowledge. She wanted space, now my father had to maintain not one but two households. We
The career I am researching is an elementary school teacher. Some of the main duties include establishing and enforcing rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students, preparing materials for activities, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students. Responsibilities include grading work, maintaining the classroom, and teaching them what they need to know. The work environment for an elementary school teacher mainly is kindergarten and elementary school teachers work in public and private schools. They generally work school hours when students are present and use nights and weekends to prepare lessons and grade papers. Most kindergarten and elementary school teachers do not work during the summer.
I gather up my books and pencils and walked out of the classroom. My best friend Sally was about to cry. So we had our little best friend moment. “be safe” she said taking her seat in the back of the classroom. I looked into her heartbroken eyes I felt like I was about to cry “I will, I promise”. i said walking out of the classroom and down the hallway and on my way to the office. I then heard two familiar voices. “does she have to go there are more than just one black student at this school other than just her” a lady’s voice said. “yes, she does don’t worry she will be in great care-” i could tell that was Ms. Clinn voice until she got interrupted by a grown men. “ how do you know that?” he yelled making me jump.”because she will be living with Melba Pattilo Beals and her family until you guys are ready to move down there yourselfs.” Ms. Cinn said i’ll be living with melba? I’LL BE LIVING WITH MEBLA I thought in my head over and over and over again. “were not moving anywhere” a man’s voice said. “i’m sorry sir but if not then Arianna will have to move on her own” Ms. Clinn said those words made my heart stop. “ And either is my daughter” A woman said, wait that’s my mom and dad. “mom and dad?” I questioned walking coming face to face with my mom and dad, Ms. clinn, the school board and none other than Mr.
The teachers, they can point to and say, “That individual assisted me in becoming the person I am today.” For me, I have one special person that I can do that to. This individual is not only my favorite teacher, but very influential in my life. Katie Josef, my Ed Tech teacher, has shown me what true passion for the field of education looks like. I witness her upbeat personality, and get to experience the kindness she exuberates to her students on a daily basis. She drives the individuals in her class to succeed to their best ability. She inspires me to become an outstanding teacher in whatever field I choose to pursue. Mrs. J has shown me what a teacher that cares for her students truly looks like. With the love and support she shows, it is no mystery how she creates unbreakable bonds with her students- bonds that last for many years, even after a student's graduation. I desire to create these same bonds with my future
I walked silently, my converse crunching on the wet sidewalk. I zipped up my jacket and took a sip of my coffee. I slowly walked towards my school when someone's shoulder slammed in to me. My coffee flew out of my hands, the lid came of as it hit the ground, spilling all over the sidewalk. I stumbled as I tried to regain my balance. I hate this small town I thought to myself. When I returned home I arrived to both of my parents sitting at the table. I looked at them with a confused look, “Ava why don't you take a seat,” Father said “we have something to tell you.” I took a seat not saying a word just giving them a confused look. “Ava honey your father got a promotion,” Mother stated “and we are going to be moving to California!” Fireworks were going off in my head thinking of all of the new things I would get to experience.
I remember the first day I walked into my kindergarten class, I clenched my mother’s hand with all my might to prevent her from letting go. The kids around me, whom I supposed were my classmates, had long let go of their mother’s had and were playing together, and even as a five year old, at that point I felt like an outsider. I pleaded my mom to not leave but my attempts failed as I found myself alone yet surrounded by complete strangers. As I stood in the center of the room while pushing back my tears and eyeing my mother make her way out the door, I heard the teacher call my name. I timidly walked towards the spot on the yellow carpet she was signaling at for me to sit on. I heard Mrs. Ross’s soothing voice but no matter how much I concentrated
This assignment will critically reflect and analyse a microteaching session I presented to my peers in a clinical placement regarding Nursing management of chest drains. I will define reflection; teaching, learning and the rationale for choosing this topic will be clearly outlined in this paper. The preparation, planning, implementation and evaluation will also be incorporated. This assignment will be structured using Gibbs (1988) reflective model cited in Modular Training Course, 2003 because of its simplicity. Analysis will permeate through each stage of the Gibbs reflective model. Finally I will conclude by reflecting on my role as a joint practitioner outlining areas of personal, professional growth, identifying my strength, weakness
The teacher I interviewed has taught for more than ten years at the same school. She started as a fourth grade teacher but she now works as an interventionist.
As in every profession, roles, responsibilities and boundaries are set in order to define the line indicating the acceptable limits.
This past semesters has been an eye opening experience that has changed my views on teacher. Ever since I was little, I have always wanted to be a fourth grade teacher. However after being placed in a second grade classroom my views have changed. I liked the idea of teaching fourth grade because my fourth grade teacher was my inspiration in life. When I was in Ms. Petro’s class I enjoyed being able to watch the students progress over time. Being able to see the drastic improvements in little children is very rewarding and that is why I want to continue to teach lower grades. I have learned that being a teacher requires a special someone, a person who knows that sometimes you will have to deal with tough situations leaving you exhausted and feeling like you are not able to help more. But at the same time, being a teacher allows one to be a visionary for the world and those who surround you.
Teaching is a profession that is considered to be a rewarding challenging and complex role. An effective teacher does not simply teach knowledge their students and instead aims to arm students with the knowledge, skills, understanding and attitudes that will prepare students for life-long learning. The constructivist theories developed by Piaget and Vygotsky have impacted on the way that teachers teach and this has changed the approach of teaching to place a greater importance on the teacher instead to act as a facilitator of learning in an open, constructivist environment and providing students with the tools to challenge themselves to develop both academically and personally. The education of students within classrooms of today is
The future of the world is in the hands of the children. Whether the future be a positive or negative one depends on the children and the education they receive. The education of a child is so valuable that one needs to consider the importance of the child's education. Also, one needs to consider how to go about nurturing those bright minds so one day they can become independent individuals. As Educators, one needs to be aware of the short-term effects as well as the long-term effects in which education may play on the child's views of the world.
I believe that every student is a future employee; every person’s intelligence and abilities are far more complicated than his or her scores on standardized tests. To become a holistic and authentic teacher, begin by knowing yourself. Knowing what you can change and what you cannot change as a teacher is very important. A teacher’s values, beliefs, integrity, emotions, and needs determines who they are as a teacher. Being authentic and credible as a teacher will help gain the confidence and courage to acknowledge your limitations and your authentic self.
I believe education is one of the most important tools a person can have in life. Every child deserves to receive the best education possible. It has always been my passion to help each child discover their individual God given gifts and talents and to reach their full potential.
The education habits of students are rooted in them from the earliest days of their educational careers. The different influences on students, whether it be inside educational institutions, or outside is huge. The teacher of a classroom is the first and most pertinent influence in a student's educational career. Teachers provide students with the basic skills they would need to survive not only in the academic world, but also the world beyond. The relationship between teachers and their students is the key element in creating an educational atmosphere that is both pleasant and effective.
Why am I a teacher? When I was a child I always had to pretend play school with my friends and I always had to be the teacher. My mom was a preschool teacher at the local day care center and I grew up seeing her cut bulletin boards and plan lessons. My best friend in middle school 's mom was also a teacher. I never wanted to be anything else and didn 't really have a back up plan if this teaching thing didn 't work out. In this paper I will take you on a journey through my educational years in elementary school and middle school, my time high school, delve into my time in college and then into my career as a teacher.
