Scientist became inquisitive about how to make mobile phone user experience better. That led to the discovery of the touchscreen mobile device in the 19’s. The first touchscreen mobile phone was created by IBM Simon in 1993. Touchscreen technology is that which allows for a better user interaction, just having to touch the screen of a device, the operation is carried out. It is more convenient and easier to use. Touchscreen mobile devices are useful in every aspect, from entertainment, education, recreation, socialization to communication. The very first concept of a smartphone is said to have been envisioned back in the mid-1970s, but that idea didn’t come into fruition until almost 20 years later when IBM’s Simon Personal Communicator first showed its face in 1992. Simon had a monochrome touchscreen, a stylus, and a charging base station. When using data, you could expect to charge the phone after about 60 minutes of use (P. 7). Nokia entered the not-yet-developed smartphone space in 1996. It released the Nokia 9000 Communicator to the world, a 1.5-inch thick, 397g phone with an outward facing dial pad, navigation keys, and monochromatic display. Unlike Simon, from the outside, the 9000 Communicator looked almost like a run-of-the-mill cell phone from 1996 (P. 10). In the early 2000s, Symbian, BlackBerry OS, Palm OS, and Windows Mobile (then known as PocketPC 2000) became increasingly popular. With capabilities such as email, fax, Web browsing, and other enterprise-centric features, so did form factors that catered to such use cases. Between 2000 and 2006, cell phone manufacturers eagerly explored dozens of different form factors to capitalize on the new mobile functionality. Sliding and flipping keyboards, rotating displays, wafer-style phones with displays positioned above permanent, vertical keyboards, and even phones with multiple keyboards abounded. Resistive touchscreen displays found their way onto smartphones, and the popularity of the stylus was born, almost out of sheer need as these early model

Every day we use some form of technology. From the sound of the alarm on our cellphones waking us up to the ping of notifications, tweets, and news that interest us; we eat and breathe technology. In a world full of apps for everything and computers connecting us worldwide, we are living the good life. Ask yourself, when was the last time you were able to go an hour without your cell phone? your tablet? technology? Can you count change without waiting for the register to tell you the amount due? Why do we believe everything we research on the computers is valid? We no longer wear watches or learn how to tell time, watch weather on TV, or even calculate the miles for a road trip. The progression of technology has improved the quality of our life and how we live. Many people believed this progress is worth it. However, all progress has a cost? Do you ever think what that cost might be? We are so dependent on technology that without it would we be able to live? Is it dangerous? What would happen if it all went away?
Over years technology has expanded dramatically. The amount of high level technology that is around us today in popular culture is massive. Things such as ipads, computers, tvs, ipods, and especially cell phones are used 24/7. Since 1876, when Alexander Graham Bell invented the first phone, it was a major success in technology. People could finally communicate with each other on the phone without actually having to see the person. The invention was great and really expanded the world with the telephone. Humans love to socialize. Before the telephone was invented people had to get up and actually physically talk to the person. However, as time went on phones have expanded. Home phones led to cell phones and now we have all the iphones. Are we getting more sociable with the resource we have in the cell phone? Not just the physical aspect of the phone but all the things that apply on the phone such as all the social media apps like twitter, facebook, and instagram that are all accessible on the phone. The research study that i want to analyze is does the modern day cell phone make people less physically social.
