There are so many social media sites for our use at this time in history. We are going to review a few of the sites that we are familiar with. We will show that there can be a good use for social media. We will discuss the features, uses, privacy settings, and capabilities of Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram.

Facebook is a multigenerational tool. It appeals to both young and old alike. Its kick off on February 4th 2004 was really meant to be for college students but it is more than that. It has grown to have “over 1.44 Billion active monthly users as of April of 2015” (N.P.). It has many features that make it easy to use anywhere and anytime.
Some of those features are the mobile application for smart phones, Facebook live, emoji’s, and hashtags. The mobile application for smart phones is a way for people to keep up with friends, family and public postings. Emoji’s are commonly used and supported by Facebook users. They are mostly used in posts, tags, and comments.
There are many uses for Facebook. “A new study from Boston University’s Ashwini Nadkarni and Stefan G. Hofmann, proposes that the social network meets two primary human needs; first, the need to belong, and second, the need for self-presentation” (Eler) Common uses for Facebook are, having family conversations, to stay in touch with friends around the globe, and to keep up with pertinent information in their community. Privacy is always a hot topic in the cyber world.
