Miranda Lambert, a female country artist, wrote 'Mama's Broken Heart' which was one of her singles for her album 'Four the Record'. When I first heard the song, I loved it instantly. The tune along with the verses went along very well. The prevailing guitar in the song also sounded great. Miranda Lambert became a solo artist in 2003 when she was a finalist in a show called 'Nashville Star'. She won third place, and later signed a record deal with Epic Records. Since then she has been a well known female country artist. She has featured in songs with other great artist such as Carrie Underwood and Little Big Town. Some of her other very famous singles include 'Gunpowder and Lead', from her second album 'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend', and 'The House That Built Me', from her third album 'Revolution'. When I first heard this song, it kind of reminded me of her previous song 'Gunpowder and Lead'. She has that sass and toughness in both songs. When I hear this song I believe she is trying to portray how times have changed. For example she states "My momma came from a softer generation/ Where you get a grip and bite your lip just to save a little face." I believe she is telling us how maybe back in the day you may have had to hide your crazy but times have changed. In her chorus she also says "Run and hide your crazy and start actin' like a lady/ Cause I raised you better, gotta keep it together/ Even when you fall apart." This to me makes me feel like society holds women up to a higher standard, where we always have to act like ladies and be ok. I feel as if we cannot show our emotions because we have to live up to that standard of society. We always need to act like ladies and be ladylike, when in reality there are times we want to go crazy. It is normal human behavior, yet we are shamed if we show it because we get hit with the "that is not ladylike" speech. Another verse that stuck out to me was 'This aint my momma's broken
1. Martina McBride was able to crank out three top charting records in one year: "Love's the Only House," "I Love You," and "There You Are." There's so much love coming from that woman! She was able to have a huge following relate to her, and hence, made her the number one chick in Country music.
Boone was singing Gospel materials in 70’s. Her daughter also rose in the charts for her singing. Boone hosted some radio shows too. Some of his other hit songs are Let Me Live, Smoke on the Water and Stairway to Heaven.
The main purpose of Beyoncé’s songs is to emphasise feminism and invigorate gender equality through her lyrics. She does so by using by conveying feminist philosophy in her lyrics. In Run the World, Beyoncé sings “strong enough to bear the children, then get back to business.” Figurative language is used to express be that women give birth however then after they proceed to work. Throughout the song used is both repetition and rhetorical question as this is how Beyoncé portrays the women empowerment theme, domination as well as confidence in her tone whilst preaching the line “Girls, we run this motha (yeah!)” and “Who run the world? Girls!”. Having expressed the line “My persuasion can build he nation” Beyoncé is building women up by speaking
“Girl On Fire” by Alicia Keys is an empowering song wrote to emphasize the strength in women of all jobs. Alicia Keys, who has always promoted female empowerment, wrote this song to explain how she was feeling in a woman in this society. Within the song and the music video, the song talks about a women who really has the typical “female” job. She is a mom who takes care of her kids, cleans, and really runs the household. The message, however is not shaming women who are in this role. Instead, the song speaks of how women are strong no matter what role they play in the world. Keys speaks about how we live in this world where women are so oppressed, but because we are so strong, we are going to stand our ground and fight for what we believe in
I chose to do my album review on Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn – The Definitive Collection (App Coll CDisc 994). Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn were one of the best-known country music duos, with fourteen top-ten singles, five of which reached number one, and twelve hit albums. Conway Twitty was born two counties out of the Appalachian region in Coahoma County, Mississippi. Loretta Lynn, however, was born in Johnson County, Kentucky in the heart of Appalachia. Conway began his music career as a “rockabilly” artist, but was redirected to his country roots in the mid-sixties and quickly became a country balladeer. Loretta was rising to fame around the same time and the two met in the late 1960’s. Their joint career took off after their first duet together in 1971 (“After The Fire Is Gone”). In the liner notes for this album, “After The Fire Is Gone” was described as a “ballad tinged with bluegrass-style harmonies.”
It also became a voice of comfort for woman according to singer songwriter Carole Bayer Sager, “it was my go to record when I wanted to feel better, it was like a friend, it was like having a friend, her voice was your girlfriend”. “Beautiful” and “It’s Too Late” are some examples of the honesty in her lyrics that it has an effect on woman to this day and because her voice was a voice woman could relate to, she didn’t have the big imposing voice like other female vocalist, it’s a voice that doesn’t seem out of
In her song she says “There's a hero if you look inside your heart” This is saying you are your only hero, you just have to believe in yourself. In another stanza she sings “You don't have to be afraid of what you are”. I listened to this verse of the song and I broke this part off into what I think this stanza means. The stanza means to me just because you aren’t the biggest, fastest or simply not what you think an average person may call a hero but I truly believe that sometimes you just have to be like I don’t care how I appear and start saying to yourself I am better than the person next to me. That verse was truly motivational and that’s how a hero should think because confidence is a key point on how to motivate someone else. Heroism would be redefined with that verse because that’s how I think heroes should
To start off, the first stanza in her song represents a sense of how unavoidable change is and how the confusion of the bond combined with the stress of the blame game can lead to a doomed
The conflict in this song is another piece of the song I can relate with. The conflict of this song is person versus self. “If you think you’ve had too much / Of this life, well hang on.” This refers to a person who is struggling to push herself or himself to keep going. I relate with this because I go to High School. With all of the drama and rumors that goes on, it makes me want to give up, but I have to hold on. Overall, I can relate to the conflict in this song.
The song expresses how people are not living up to society's values and norms. It suggest that the socialization is at fault and that they contribute to improvement of self being. The song implies the way society goes against values and norms by one of the very first lyrics in the song. The lyric goes, “What’s wrong with the world, mama, People livin’ like they ain’t got no mamas…” (lines 1-2). This makes one aware of the lack of values in one's family. Values is the belief or an idea that a person or group has to determine is correct or not. Another verse of how the band shows one disobedience of the values and norms comes toward the middle of the song. “People killin', people dyin’, Children hurt and you hear them cryin, Can you practice what you preach, And would you turn the other cheek…” (lines 50-53). These verses show of society has failed to act stable and logical way that society once viewed as correct living. These actions show that citizens have not lived up to the expectations of society. Social norms are likes the laws of society. Laws are things that are illegal behaviour and norms are like behaving in a way society wouldn’t like. For example being in gangs, like the bloods, or the crips, or a big group that goes against society's norms like racial groups. An example of a racial group would be the KKK.
This very slow song, so in my opinion I think it reinforces a sense of bittersweet, because even though she mentions how she wants to be remembered for the good things that she did she also mentions death and regrets in her song.
The song opens with the lyrics, “What's wrong with the world Mama, people livin like they ain’t got no Mama, I think the whole world’s addicted to Drama, only attracted to the things that will bring them trauma” For me the lyric about “No Mama“ The people of today’s society don’t know how to behave properly. We lack knowledge and understanding of the world. We don’t pay attention to anyone but ourselves. We don't know right from wrong. We are completely oblivious to what this world is turning into and all we are doing are things that hurt ourselves and others. This lyric about having “No Mama” saddens me as there are a lot of people out there in this world who do not have a mother to guide them on the right path. We need a mother figure in our life because having a mother teaches us basic life lessons that allow us to survive and be a good person. Such as to always say please and thank-you, respect people, be kind and love your neighbour. I can not relate to not having a mother figure in my life as I have had the same amazing mother my whole life. She has taught me from the moment I was born, to treat everyone equally, be kind, and respect and love everyone. To this
Beyonce uses pathos, the first of the three appeals in her song by using very descriptive phrases. When she states, “I’d listen to her, `cause I know how it hurts,” Beyonce is telling her audience that she understands what it is like to be hurt, and that if she were a boy, she would treat her women better because she could understand where she was coming from. This tugs at the listener’s heart because you can see that she has been emotionally hurt from a past relationship. Also, many people can relate to what she is disclosing. It is human nature for people to get emotionally damaged in a relationship and therefore her feelings are empathized. She also uses syntax by the way she orders her words by telling a story. If the song was not in story form, it would not produce the great impact that it does.
The song implements on the hardships a mother will face for the growth of their son because love is what keeps them going. The love a mother will have for her son means that even though they don’t have a father figure around to show them how to grow up, they will always have their mothers to teach them the way of life through a woman’s perspective. In the song, “Dear Mama”, Tupac mentions, “For a woman it ain’t easy trying to raise a man, you always was committed” and he is able to foreshadow the hardships his mother had to face while Tupac was growing up without a father. At the age of seventeen Tupac, was always caught up in drama with his mom. Since Tupac was young he got involved into the hustle and was left in the streets where he basically had to risk he life every day. He never realized that being pushed into the streets would make him think about his mother or even worry about her. Tupac reflects upon the behavior he had during the time and how much stress he would add on his mother’s shoulders, but little did he know that his mother would be there for him regardless. Tupac Shakur’s mom was committed to his son and no matter the troubles he caused and faced she would be there for him to either help him out or at least hear him when he was not feeling good. She was a single mother on welfare, but she always tried
Comprehending her lyrics, one may perceive from the understanding that her intended audience is actually anyone who may be feeling the same way as her and the effect in which she wishes to have upon them is to be like her in the
