Midway in San Diego. He then spoke of the USS Iowa currently the only active Battleship in the entire US Navy and he’d appreciate it if they could find another one, they knew how to restore them. He spoke about how important the USS Pampanito was and also it was the only submarine they currently had, again they were looking for more. Admiral Meyer stated that unfortunately at this time the areas on the East Coast that had such ships were areas not yet secure, not to mention that they also needed to secure oil refineries and oil tankers, at least what remained of them after the past winter. There was a collective sigh heard in the room by the D.C. leadership, these were issues that they hadn’t even considered yet, one of those reasons was simply because they didn’t have the military forces to do the job. However, the eight …show more content…
“Yes, right after the event we made contact with them but hadn’t heard from them since. The train we sent to Fort Bragg made its first stop at Quantico to straighten them out. I’ve met with Quantico leadership daily. Like everyone else they’re struggling.” Said the President. “Admiral Meyer if it’s ok I’d like to take on Quantico.” Said General Charkin. “It’s ok with me but you should really check with General Wallace.” Replied Admiral Meyer. All of a sudden General Wallace found himself thrust into the middle of something he wasn’t quite sure of, “How about this.” Said General Wallace. “Admiral Meyer for the time being you make the decisions regarding all West Coast personnel and operations. What I would like to do if it’s alright with the President is to return West with you all so I can see what the heck is going on for myself. I believe that once I’ve done that I’ll be in a better position to make decisions.” “That sounds like a plan General Wallace, you have my support.” Stated President Washington. “I’d also like for my Chief of Staff to return with
Maj. Gen. Smith benefitted from aggressive intelligence operations and knew the Chinese had massed around his division. He was certain that his Marines would face strong Chinese resistance west of the Chosin Reservoir as they pushed towards the Yalu (Drury, pg.16). Maj. Gen. Smith, unhappy with this
General Washington 's adherence to mission command principles promoted the environment needed to win. Senior allied partners deferred decision making to Washington based on trust and collaborative input. Effective communications encouraged subordinate commanders to propose constructive alternatives aimed at streamlining action. The Siege of Yorktown embodied the approach effectiveness. Admiral Lafayette’s decision to avoid a major naval battle in Chesapeake Bay demonstrated this. Lafayette’s understood Washington’s intent, and the established trust ensured vital Colonial waterway supremacy. This decisive act ensured Lord Cornwallis’ entrapment throughout the siege. Forthwith is the interview so kindly given by General Arnold. It was my pleasure to sit down and speak with such a brave figure. For those who may not be aware, the General is to assume command of West Point on the morrow. Many a reader is, however, aware that I admire the General and his prowess on the battlefield. As a former resident of New Haven, Connecticut, I am aware of the General’s long-standing Patriotism. Now as a resident of New York, I am happy to know that he will be helping to protect the safety of this province. Indeed, my mind rests easier with the knowledge.
‘War will be averted and countless lives saved. Our world will return to the former state of tranquility we enjoyed before all this nonsense.’ The study fell so silent... Kill General Washington?” (Anderson 90).
5) He is warning that he knows that the British military is strong but America would fight to the last moment also if you attack your own country men the whole House of Bourbon will be united against you
Many of the west coast senior staff thought that with the brain trust in Washington they would have been far ahead of their counter-parts on the west coast but they weren’t. The military services on the west coast had been at war for almost a year now with the resources they had. This meant that there weren’t any troop rotations as they were all committed to one action or another. They were only beginning to rotate entire units out of CBA’s (combat areas) for some R&R (rest and relaxation) and refitting the unit with fresh troops and equipment. Now those same service members were being called into action once again but this time across the entire country. There was some sign of burn out amongst the service members and they were being treated accordingly but as a whole the force was holding up brilliantly. What concerned everyone in the military now was how the civilian leadership, essentially President Washington was going to use them or was it going to be business as
America was finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel by April of 1945. With Stalin committed to entering war with Japan in alliance with the United States, and German troops dropping like flies, the last thing America needed was for Franklin D. Roosevelt to die. Entering his fourth term, Harry S. Truman accompanied him as the Vice President. Truman’s predecessor, as it turns out, was Henry A. Wallace, “an unapologetic (somewhat over enthusiastic) liberal, that had so infuriated the conservative wing of the Democratic party, the party bosses were desperate to be rid of him.”1 The drastic contrast in political views between Wallace and Truman made it clear that if put in any of the situations Truman eventually was, Wallace would
On 04-20-17 at approximately 0400 hours, Zhang telephoned the police station regarding her vehicle. Zhang advised PPD Dispatch that she recalled parking her vehicle on Del Mar Boulevard just south of her residence. Zhang walked to Del Mar Boulevard and located her vehicle.
I’ll write to Congress and tell ‘em we need supplies, you rally the guys, master the element of surprise.” I was appointed George Washington’s aide-de-camp and helped him lead many battles in the Revolutionary War.
“Sir; The government of the Confederate States has hitherto foreborne from any hostile demonstrations against Fort Sumter, in hope that the government of the United States with a view to the amicable adjustment of all questions between the two governments, and to avert the calamities of war would voluntarily evacuate it.
Because the President was present, General Wallace would give his own briefing, rather than some underling. General Wallace launched into his briefing with an updated version of what military units were available nationwide, the nation being as it was at the time. He covered the status of each unit, for all services, and what if any operations they were involved in. It was amazing to President Washington that in a matter of weeks, what looked like a very dim picture when they were looking at Washington D.C. and the military surrounding it in Virginia and Maryland, looked brighter with the West Coast and Fort Bragg adding to the mix.
(G) I guess you are right there General. I was planning to attack on Trenton at night when the British soldiers are sleeping. (C) That there George is a plan that you should proceed with. I shall be there not with you, but I will make it in time. (G) Thank you General. We need all the help we can get. Not only to win but my men need shoes and supplies. You think you could help me with those expenses? (C) That is not my problem George. Those are your men not mine so there is no need for my help in this situation. (G) I guess you are correct there again General. I will not ask you again I am sorry for asking again. (C) It is fine George no need to say sorry just go now and surprise the British. (G) *thinking* Why does he look so amused to see that I will surprise the British? Why all of a sudden is he encouraging me to do it? Does he have something planned? Why does he want the exact location of where I am going to attack? I will give him the wrong time and see if he shows up to help or to warn the

“Yesterday, December 7, 1941, a date which will live in infamy, the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan…As Commander-in-Chief of the Army and Navy, I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense…With confidence in our armed forces, with the unbounded determination of our people, we will gain the
The subteams continued to fall behind schedule, but the delivery date remained firm. The timeline slippages were obvious, but almost no one was willing to discuss them openly—least of all the Americans on the core team. According to Mike Powell, there was nothing subtle about the mounting stress and confusion: “Tensions had gotten to the point where people were actually storming out of meetings because they were frustrated by what they were being asked to do on short notice or without sufficient information.”
