Middlebury School: Case Study

On Wednesday, April 12, 2017, I, Officer McDaniel #147, while at James Coble Middle School, located at 1200 Ballweg Rd, Arlington, TX, I was approached by Assistant Principal Myers, Laura, W/F, DOB 02/16/1968, in reference to a cell phone screen that was broke by another student.

I, _____________, will be participating in the Lindhurst Blazers Baseball Program in the 2018 season. I am representing Lindhurst High School, and, as such, my behavior reflects on the coaches, my teammates, the faculty and students of Lindhurst H.S., my family, and community. I will be held to a higher standard than other students and will be expected to treat everyone with the respect that I expect to be treated in return. Danbury is fortunate to have a wonderful mix of private and public educational institutions and is the 7th largest school district in the State with about 18,700 students. Danbury Public Schools has one comprehensive high school, which is the largest in the State; one alternative high school; 3 middle schools including one middle magnet school; and 13 elementary schools including one elementary magnet school. Coach Mike played 4 years of baseball at Westmont High School as a starting pitcher and utility outfielder. He also played 2 years of baseball with the DuPage Red Angels. Additionally, Coach Mike has extensive experience working with children and during his tenure with the Bulls/Sox Training Academy he was selected as a top instructor for two consecutive years (2013-2014).

I teach in the Westside Consolidated Number Five School District in Jonesboro, Arkansas. The school district is a consolidation of three small rural town school districts Bono, Egypt, and Cash, Arkansas in 1968. I met with my mentor Mr. Scott Gaunt the school district superintendent on January 18, 2017 between meetings with district leaders and countywide superintendents. We met and discussed the community relations plan and identified the two most important issues for our district as identified in the poll by the Phi Delta Kappan and the Gallop poll. The issues were the lack of financial support for the school district to provide an adequate education for students and the testing and regulations imposed on school districts that lower educational time for students while in school.

Ashbury Public School provides the local kids with their education, physical activities, and nurtures their creative endeavors from Kindergarten to Year 6. Their claim to fame is their Ashbury Public School library

There are many possibilities as to why Robeson High School could be facing these low performing ratings. One possibility that many have looked into is the teachers that are educating at these schools. The Chicago Public Schools (CPS) school district educated about 381,349 students in the 2016-2017 school district, according to CPS’s website. However, they employ only about 36,254 staff, with only 20,973 teachers employed. This is about 19 students per teacher. Looking closer into Robeson High School, the total enrollment was 355 students, and the total full time teachers was 34. With Robeson High having about 10 students with every teacher, it seems that the academics and test scores should be much better than they are.

St. Thomas is a very appealing school from the ideal location to the small environment of a liberal arts school. The small environment is a priority to me due to my high anxiety and I feel as if St. Thomas could provide me a safe and comfortable environment to succeed in.

According to Federal Public Law (PL 108.265 Section 204), all schools had to create a wellness policy in June 2006. New legislation requires an updated wellness policy by June 30, 2017.

My idea for this project in EAST would be to get a Therapy Dog for our school, Greenbrier Middle School. Mrs. Buchanan and possibly Mrs. Wilcox would be the handlers for this dog, since we think it would be a good fit to definitely have one in the counselor’s office, and then one with Mrs. Wilcox, since she has special Ed classes.

The case study of Ridgewood Middle School resonated with me in a positive manner. The elementary school where I teach, while not riddled with graffiti, shares many characteristics with the old Ridgewood. Our families struggle with extreme poverty and our community has the highest violent crime rate in the city. As I have mentioned previously our test scores are among not just the lowest in the city, but also the lowest in the state. We have an extremely high teacher turnover rate and I have worked with three different principals in three years. The teacher turnover rate would be even higher if new teachers were allowed to transfer. Consequently, we have students and some staff that simply do not want to be in our school. The successes of

A 16-year-old transgender boy by the name of G.G from Gloucester High School filed suit against Gloucester County School board for discrimination in accordance with the Equal Protection Clause and under Title IX. G.G and his mother approached school staff at the start of her sophomore year with the news that she was now identifying as a male. The school was extremely supportive and accommodated the family in every way possible. G’s name was changed into male form and the teachers were very understanding. G was even allowed to use the bathroom in the nurse’s office for privacy.

When someone typically thinks of a high school, they think about a traditional high school. What I mean by a traditional high school is a high school that consists of more than 600 students just trying to get their high school diplomas. Middle College is not your traditional high school. I come across a lot of people rejecting Middle College because it takes away from the “real high school experience". However, being at MCHS has given me a unique high school experience that not everyone can relate to.

The events that took place at Washington High Schools have caused a division between the students, teachers and administration. While some support the decision the principal has made to suspend the students for their untasteful talent show performance, others question its effectiveness. Shortly after the suspension, the students began segregating themselves and exchanging racial comments. The situation has escalated out of control and it has become a political one; leaders of the African American community want to discuss the talent show protest and are demanding a meeting with the principal.
