Students and parents should begin to think about college when the student is in middle school or late grade-school. Beginning the college process early can prevent stressing at the last-minute and informs the student of all of their options. Even if the student is not looking at a specific college, they should start to learn the importance of college and how their life will change. Students should speak to a college guidance counselor about their future and know what colleges are looking for and how to build their résumé. I began to think about college in 4th grade and my early years of middle school. My dad would talk to me about the kinds of schools and what my options will be. Even though my ideas changed, I thought about what I wanted to be when I was in elementary school. I believe that thinking about your career early can help you pick a school with a good program for your chosen career. When I was younger, I wanted to be a teacher or a veterinarian. However, I now want to be a surgeon. Now that I am looking at colleges, I look for ones with a good medical program. Students should also learn good study habits in elementary school and middle school, so they know how effectively study for high school, which counts for college. If a student …show more content…
Though this could happen if the student is under a lot of pressure, often, starting the college search process early is beneficial. Students who start the college search process early often are less stressed because they are not cramming the college search into a year or two. I definitely believe that by the 9th grade, students should start the college search process. In 9th grade, students should talk to their college guidance counselor about plans after high school. Many students do not yet know where they want to go to college or what they want to major in, but it is good to have a basic understanding of the college search
Most of the time when the word "college" to the mind of most freshman in the United States think to themselves "Ohhhh no college isn't for me it's for "smart" kids and the kids that can read codes on a computer and find a virus and destroy it". After reading Scott Anderson's "Dear 9th Graders" I have learned that all the myths about applying for college do not have any business to be in our brains as a freshman. As a freshman all we should worry about right now is our grades and enjoying the time that we have in highschool because you only live once.
People have a big decision to make once they graduate high school. They have to ask themselves, “Do I go to college immediately, or do I take some time off?” If I were to ask myself that question, I would say, “I’m going to go to college right after high school.” I think it is better to go and get it over with right after high school. My reasons for this are, it is easier to continue an education if I go immediately, I will be done earlier, and I will have time to enjoy life later.
The average age that a person has kids is around the age of twenty-nine (Bates). So not only does one have to balance bills, focus on a career, they could also have to take care of a life. To be fully prepared to enter the real world, an individual must basicly have there life planned out as soon as highschool. It is very hard to put these heavy choices on a kid as young as thirteen years of age. A decision a person makes on what they do affects them for the rest of their life, so why make a decision that is so heavily weighed, be even allowed to be chosen by someone so juvenile. Many teens are worried about gossip, relationships, sports, and social status. College is just something a highschool thinks of usually around junior year, or early senior year, even senior year where a high school student makes their decision about what colleges to apply to, or accept to get into; they are also distracted with SAT’s, ACT’s, Friday night lights, grades, and school dances like prom or cotillion. Being sidetracked by all these factors and many more a logical decision can not be made without taking even more time to not just double check a decision, but triple check, or four times or more. An individual can never be too sure about
For many Americans, going to college is indeed the logical step after high school, but there are many alternatives to college. The best strategy for high schools to help students decide what to do after high school is to start preparing them academically with college courses from their ninth grade year until they reach their twelfth grade year. Reason being, most students are concerning of the college workloads while they are still in high school. At the end of their twelfth grade, they become very hesitating to even fill out one college application. But, once they get exposed to this level, they will be very confident to enroll in the higher education level.
Its great to start taking college courses, which are offered through a student's local high school, so that he or she may better understand what college will be like. Along with this, when taking courses in high school, students often get a bargain, for these class credits are usually much cheaper. Yet, taking early college classes also have some negative aspects. First of all, because these subjects tend to be harder than regular high school classes, they could give students the wrong idea of what college will be like. Second, a student's overall high school Grade Point Average, (GPA), may suffer, if the student is not quite ready for college level studies. Nonetheless, by taking early college classes, students are able to take advantage of an excellent opportunity to work on their first college level subjects, in a more familiar and less threatening high school
Many students have a decision to make during high school. That is whether to continue and go to college or just stop there. By having a college education a person is offered a variety of job opportunities. While non-college students have opportunities they are very limited and rare. College is expensive and choosing a career is strenuous. College is extremely important in a student’s career and continuing school pays off. Many view colleges as a make or break situation. However, a person should think about their future and family.
Remember when you use to imagine yourself growing up to be an astronaut, a teacher, or a doctor - but we never quite thought about the how to get there? As a child, the idea of 'college' and a 'degree' are the very last things on our mind, especially when it comes to such fascinating career choices. In fact, you weren't aware that a degree was needed up until you were choosing courses for high school. To be honest, I strongly believe if the benefits of college were pushed sooner, I would have been more compelled to attend after my GED versus waiting as long as I have now. However, this is not a time to reflect on my late choices, but rather the choices I commit to make now, and the choices you should consider before things get challenging.

Today, many students are settling for jobs immediately out of high school instead of furthering their education in college. Having the first couple years of college to explore my interests and find what I want to study and work as is important to me because it gives me time to narrow my options, and research different paths I may be interested in.
As adolescents begin their senior year, the topic of college often runs without hindrance, often causing extreme stress. As the monetary value, as well as the time spent, begins to accumulate in their minds, students often find themselves bound at the wrists figuring out a way to balance as well as afford college living. In many cases, the upcoming graduates are unsure about their career path, almost enhancing their stress in choosing a school that would cater to their needs. It is almost then they begin to ponder whether or not University/college life is for them, which is could be an extremely advantageous shot in a, for example, high achieving family. Whilst college does allow for a plethora of doors to be opened, the lack of time, effort, and money can hinder one 's ability to properly choose a university. Though school can help with the stepping stones of life, they do not entirely ensure a proper future, therefore many may opt out of school; however, with the correct actions, they may turn out extremely successful, which may not have even happened without the release of the burden of school.
Many students see college as the stepping stone to a successful career and a happy life. Which can be true for some, however, many overlook whether college will actually help them succeed, or if college will truly be right for them. College is expensive and it is not for every kid who graduates high school, although it is marketed that way, high school graduates must think critically about their decision. Should I take some time away from school, to know myself better? What do I intend to do for a career? Am I more interested in educating myself toward things that interests me now and discovering my major as I learn, or do I feel I know what I want to do? And also essential questions like, how much debt will I go into? And can I
