Reasons Why People Attend College

There was many reasons why I decide to attend college. I am extremely tired of applying for distinctive positions and being rejected for not having a degree. I'm a supervisor now over thirty employees when I see different positions opening in management or higher position. I apply on behalf of the job, gain being interviewed for my experience. Nevertheless, not having a college degree really afflicts me. As a result, I decided to attend college and further my education.

A majority of people these days are planning or are going to college. These people have many reasons for going to college. The option of going to college is a major decision and there are many factors that are considered in making this decision. One of the many reasons of making the decision to go to college is to receive a bigger salary. Another reason is for the opportunities that become available from going to college. People also decide go to college to be better prepared and successful in the future.

I am here because I want and choose to be, I made going to college part of my divorce decree because it is important to me. I am here because I want to learn and recognize the privilege that it is to be able to do so. I live in a country where I can attend college and have the same chance at success that everyone else has. I am blessed! I am here because I have six children who are watching to see what their mother makes from the dissolution of her marriage. I have chosen to make myself an educated person, to set an example of how to study, how to communicate, how to listen and how to be successful in college and in a career beyond college.

My purpose for attending college again is to enhance my opportunities within the field of education. I have been teaching high school level social science courses for over a decade, and I am ready to advance into administration. Having already attained the administrator endorsement on my teaching license, I believe it would be beneficial to have a degree in Business Administration to stand out in a pool of candidates. Running a school is not greatly dissimilar from running a business. If this helps me with my career goals, I will consider it to have been time well

Early college programs provide the opportunity of graduating with your associate degree before receiving your diploma and career awareness. Also, you get to experience what a campus is like by attending a local center near you, communicate with a college professor and take actual college courses to develop skills for effective learning.

Choosing to attend college was a difficult choice, my mother is the only person in all of my family to ever attend and graduate college. My father and the rest of my family have all gone into trade work, some of them attending a trade school and some not. While all of my family does well and live a comfortable lifestyle. I would like to attend college because I thoroughly enjoy learning. I take great pride in my education; as a women in the twenty-first century, I am going to take advantage of the opportunities I have and educate myself as much as possible. Obtaining a college degree is also essential to thrive in the industry I would like to be involved in after college, the fashion business industry. I selected my major, business administration because I have curated and ran an online store since I was thirteen. I enjoyed the experience so much that I made the decision to pursue it as a career and not just a hobby.

Not only have a gotten a head start in life and in my academics, i have had the chance to better myself as a person and even as a student. I would like to attend college because I want to be successful in life, I understand it is getting harder to get a job with only a high school diploma and it is sure to get worse. My goals for the future include getting into a college with a good teaching and mathematics program, this could give me a variety of jobs and I was speaking to someone and they told me that people are looking out for women who have a degree in mathematics which will help me to obtain a good paying job.

Furthermore, this plan would restore an inspiration in many students to stay in school and motivate other people to go back to school. Older people who couldn’t go to college or dropped out would be inspired to go back and achieve their dream of obtaining some type of college degree. According to Rosabeth Kanter, "Imagine that future: fifty- and sixty-somethings gathering on a college campus for a year or two of advanced study…to eradicate diseases, end poverty, reverse global warming, raise literacy rates” (qtd in Neal). This elaborates on the wisdom and experience that older people have; they just need the knowledge and credits to take their leadership to the next level.

I would like to attend college because I want to be able to demonstrate not only to myself but to my family that we can do what we set ourselves to do. I would to do go far in this life and accomplish my life goals. Without college, I will not be able to do my goals. My goals are to graduate from college, one day own my own land so that I can own my own agricultural business, and have my home there too, and I want to be a high school Spanish teacher as well. Another reason as to why I want to attend college is that I want to be able to show my little sister that anything is possible, we can do whatever we set ourselves to do, as long we do not give up we will be able to accomplish great things in life. Living in America I am given many opportunities to pursue my education such as being surrounded by fantastic colleges and being the first person in my family to graduate high school and attend college.I am determined to have a great profession and make my parents proud. An important short-term goal is attending Mercer University for both undergraduate and graduate school with the most financial aid as possible My parents emigrated from India and came here with nothing. They have suffered through many hardships financially and personally to provide for my sister and I. Due to my dad’s health issues he is forced to retire and stay home. Our expenses solely rely on my mother’s income and the income I receive from my part time job. Since my family’s funds are limited, applying for financial aid is critical in order for me to attend college.

Why did I decide to attend college? I chose this path for my life when I was very young, both of my parents attended some form of higher education. They both ended up living fairly well, I decided that I wanted to be successful in life as well and that going to college would be an integral part of my future. I want to be able to live in comfort; be able to be a productive member of my community still, become an adult, and be able to understand things in a new light.

Knowing that most students want to get a degree as quickly as possible, some colleges and universities have offered accelerated programs that allow students to use life experiences in lieu of course credits. One such institution, Friends University has offered life experience credits for several years. These life experiences may be based on a student's work or volunteer history.
