In her two minutes speech, Michelle officially kicked off United We Serve, a plea to all Americans to join a volunteer endeavor and be part of constructing a new foundation for America, one society at a time (The Obama White House, 2009). The program was managed by the Corporation for National and Community Service, the federal organization devoted to development service in communities across America. The introduction of her speech immediately captures the audience attention. She refers from president Obama’s remarks on the challenges facing Americans. She then moves on to launch her idea on the volunteerism program immediately outlining the efforts the government has put in place to help address the economic challenges.
