On March 11th, 2016 Melrose Minnesota suffered a tragic event. Melrose’s 119 year-old St. Mary’s Church started on fire. That night many people gathered around the church in tears watching as the fire-fighters worked to put the fire out. It was later released that the church fire was arson. Ever since that day, the Melrose community has been trying to work together to come up with a solution for what they should do with the church. The two big ideas are restoring the current structure to what it once has been or tearing it down and building a completely new modern church. There has been multiple meetings, where community members have voiced their opinions, yet nothing has been done to the church. Since there has been so much fuss and chaos

The council that purchased the two buildings thought they were doing something good for the city when they spent $132,000 for the properties. Then they dropped the ball by not moving forward. Now is the time for the current council to resolve this one way or the other. Under this administration, numerous improvements have been made in the city. The parks and recreational facilities are constantly being upgraded. This is good but the lingering building issue remains a sore spot in the small

Hook How many of you have seen a person publicly shamed or embarrassed? We have all seen these instances where people have been called out for everyone to see. Hester Prynne In Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter, is publically shamed in front of the whole town and is forced to wear a scarlet A on her chest. All because of her sin, adultery.
Celebrating their 100 year anniversary, Torrance has seen many changes over the years but it has retained its sense of community and is a thriving “location of choice” for residents and businesses alike.
On August 8, 2013, a college student from South Dakota State University was struck and killed by a car while running alongside the road near Otsego, Minnesota. He was training to achieve his dream of being a Track and Field contender in the 2016 Summer Olympics. My cousin Phillip LaVallee would never reach his goal. Coming home from a baseball tournament in Italy, I didn’t receive the news until five days after the traumatic incident. An incident that has greatly affected my family ever since. The effect this tragedy had on my life was huge and it taught me to never take anything in life for granted and live to achieve your goals and dreams.
I read David Cowan and John Kuenster’s To Sleep with the Angels: The Story of a Fire written in 1998, published by Ivan R. Dee in Chicago. To Sleep with the Angels is a story told by two veteran journalists who recall the heart-wrenching story of the fire and its aftermath. The story is about a fire that broke out one afternoon, and in only less than an hour, many lives had been lost, and an entire school building that housed 24 classes had come down (Cowan and Kuenster 10). This book report discusses the fire talked about by the authors and advancements that have improved the school building rules and regulations to prevent similar incidents.
The restoration of the homes, churches, schools, etc., there needs to be commitment from both contributors that they will build them safely, and durable and not do a whack job on them. They need to be constructed so they feel like this dumb riot never happened.
The case study is composed of interviews, media analysis, and a spatial analysis of group homes in Worcester. The interviews with stakeholders in the siting of social service facilities are used extensively throughout the article once the author introduces the case study. These interviews help provide a direct view of the topic which usually wouldn’t be readily available in public channels such as city council, zoning board meetings, or press conferences. An example of is the use of social service administrators voicing their opinion on the Dover Amendment, a law which “exempts religious and educational institutions from local land use laws” (Pierce et al., 2012). The authors go on to use their media analysis to present info that would readily available to the public, such as their use of the social service’s press confrence on their accused abuse of the Dover Amendment. Spatial analysis of Worcester is used to reinforce the presented concept that the best places for social service facilities isn’t where they're located due to the political back channels they need to go
In the history of the United States Supreme Court, there are a multitude of cases that have left an indelible mark in the tapestry of American history, culture, and society. Among these landmark disputes may be found issues as divisive as reproductive health, fundamental economic freedoms, the power of the Supreme Court and, of course, race. Among these, Dred Scott v. Sanford occupies a special place. Often called as the “worst decision made by the Supreme Court”, Dred Scott v. Sanford provided an impetus for slavers to continue an injustice that had existed since the colonial era . By deciding the way it did, the United States Supreme Court also created a divide between the northern and southern states – a divide so great that it eventually led to the American Civil War. Such an enormous effect on the sentiment of the times warrants a closer look at the decisions of the justices involved in the Dred Scott decision. Doing so will also shed light into the intricate logic behind the justices’ decisions – essentially the reasons why they concurred or dissented from the main opinion written by Chief Justice Roger B. Taney. The process of interrogating the Supreme Court’s interpretation of the Constitution will also reveal the fundamental societal sentiment regarding slavery and African Americans at the time.

Step three of the Rational Problem-Solving approach is create Alternative solution. The first solution we came up with is to contact sororities and fraternities on Florida State’s campus. We going to schedule meeting so we can give presentation in front of the Sororities and Fraternities, to ask them to purchase a brick or donation for the Memorial Garden. The second solution we came up with is to use Tell Your Story Tallahassee to bring awareness to the issue of dignity and death surrounding the homelessness population. Our last solution is to Email the different colleges on Florida State’s campus, and ask them if they will be willing to buy a brick or donate to build the Memorial Garden.
