There were many people throughout the history of the United States that helped to get equality for African Americans; however, one man's voice moved an entire race. That one man is Martin Luther King, Jr. He has a way of making you listen when he speaks and of making you understand his ideas. Many people did listen and he motivated a whole race of people to strive with him on his quest for equality. The events in his life from early life, civil rights, and later life led him to be one of the most powerful people in the movement towards civil rights.

Some may wonder who exactly this “rebel” who was is talked so highly of is, as for me, this person is a special someone who motivated many people, especially me, to remind us of the perseverance and dedication to fulfill his work and teachings. And that person was indeed, Martin Luther King. But how exactly was he an inspiration to us? Well, not only did he suggest non-violent ways to take care of things, he also advised against racial activity, or in other words, racism. Not only that, but he also advises to finish what you start, or in other words, perseverance. Dr. King has even had a day after him, and continues to encourage schools and communities to follow after his guidance towards peace and freedom.

Martin Luther King Jr. and his family believed in activism, He was a minister, and he was a great public speaker speaking out for black people’s rights. His name was originally Michael King Jr., and his dad was also Michael King. When the family went on a trip to Germany, in 1931, Michael King Sr. changed his name in homage to historic German theologian Martin Luther. Michael King Jr. was just two years old at this time, and his dad made the decision to change his son’s name also to Martin Luther King Jr.

Martin Luther King Jr. was a major catalyst for change when it came to the equality and social rights of African Americans, economically disadvantaged, and victims of injustice in the United States. He lived during a time when the United States was mainly segregated and African Americans weren’t treated as equals to white Americans. He lived through segregation and racism, fortunately, he was able to receive a high level of education which opened up to his mind to new ways of thinking. He was greatly influenced by his religious background, his hometown and his culture.

In 1996 Samuel Mohammed, a resident of West Palm Beach community, kicked down the door of an abandoned house within his neighborhood, that was used as a drug house, spread lighter fluid and started a fire. The night he set the fire he was never far away from the scene. He stood by and watched as the fire and at the time he deemed appropriate he called the police and the fire station.
