“ His Expression remained the same- cynical, defiant, painful” (Gaines 84). Miss Emma did not think that Jefferson knew he was going to be put in the chair, which kind of furthers this whole idea that everyone has that’s he’s incompetent. Even his own aunt without realizing has degraded him. I think that maybe Jefferson can’t read or write but he’s a human who understands laws. At the beginning of the book I was feeding into the notion that he was mentally challenged, but I think now that he just grew up in the uneducated black stigma put on him by white people not letting black school have the same education. And so he knows he is going to die, he doesn’t fight he doesn’t resist he faces the unjust punishment with grace and is going o let

I believe my greatest skill is my ability to empathize with others. Reading novels is my passion and I learn to view things from different perspectives through these reading exercises. When I read a story, I see the world in the protagonist’s point of view or the antagonist’s point of view. I understand why they act that way or makes that decision when they face certain situations. When I’m able to understand their perspective their actions make sense to me.

Losing one’s memory can be a mysterious affliction, and the causes can be quite complex. Severe memory loss is introduced in author Oliver Sacks’ collection of stories The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat, and lectures given by professor Jim Davies can help with understanding of some of the concepts introduced in the book. In chapter two, The Lost Mariner, the patient Jimmie is suffering from aspects of both retrograde and anterograde amnesia, which Davies explained as loss of memory of events or facts learned before an event (the event that caused the amnesia), and loss of ability to create new memories after the event, respectively. In more detail, and in relation to our book (here, the target example), retrograde amnesia would consist of any loss of memory that happened prior to an event, such as an injury or onset of disease in Jimmie’s case. Dr. Davies’ explanation of retrograde amnesia helps to understand Jimmie’s case, where in the year 1975 he is unable to recall any events after 1945. As well, the explanation of anterograde amnesia as including symptoms such as inability to form new memories, learn information or tasks, or to recall the recent past is useful when applied to Jimmie’s experience of not being able to recall events that happened even a few minutes prior. Jimmie’s suffering from both retro and anterograde amnesia, as explained by Sacks, results from Korsakov’s syndrome – a destruction of memory caused by alcoholic
I had the opportunity to sing to Anne Franks best friends, Jopie and Lies, but I didn't. Two people were needed to sing the song “Hero,” but I never told anyone that I could sing. I really wanted to sing to them because Anne Frank is my hero and the song would have tied in perfectly, but the thought of telling anyone scared me. (TFWD 142)

He is given a very superior and authoritative role by Vincentio, the Duke, and extends his powers to the most extreme of measures. Unlike the Duke, Angelo is stern and goes to the furthest extent to have his voice be heard. This complex play allows the reader to see two sides of Angelo, his outer angel and his inner devil.
