If I were in charge, I would take the opportunity to make a difference in the world of our men and women in the armed forces. Nelson Mandela once said, “We can change the world and make it a better place. It is in your hands to make a difference”(Nelson). I believe one of the ways I can make a difference is through encouraging others to show appreciation for our United States military and help provide support for our veterans when they return home.
My grandfather, a Lieutenant Colonel in the Marines, instilled in me an appreciation for the United States Military from a young age. He would take my sister and I past the marine base, telling us stories about attending the United States Naval Academy, and about his career as a Marine officer.

However, they were well behind on their goal, and we knew we had to help. We went to the school and pitched an idea to start a program where we get every student to write letters to soldiers at Thanksgiving. The administration thought the project was a great idea and let the two of us ask the students for their help. The entire school embraced the project, kindergarten through twelfth grade, and the next week we collected the letters and took them to the radio station to be sent overseas. The first year we collect just under a thousand letters and each subsequent year we have increased that number. My sister went off to college a few years later, and I took on running the entire project. I did not want the project to end, because I wanted to continue putting smiles on the faces the men and women of our armed forces. During, my junior year scheduling issues at the school were making it look like the Letters for Soldiers project was not going to take place that year. The school told me that there was not enough time to do the Letters for Soldiers project that year, and I was very disappointed. I made up my mind to find a way to continue the project. I met with the administrators repeatedly, begging them to find a way to continue the project. At all times I …show more content…
I would provide financial support to help pay for their training. Another important issue facing returning veterans is Post-traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD. “Post-traumatic stress disorder is a mental health condition triggered by a terrifying event, with symptoms being flashbacks, nightmares, severe anxiety, and uncontrollable thoughts of the event” (Mayo). After going through the entire trauma they experience overseas they are expected to come home and go back to normal daily life. It is not easy for many veterans. I know my grandfather would very rarely talk about what happened during the war, because it brought back painful memories. Suicide has become a major issue for our veterans; “twenty two military veterans commit suicide every day” (Powderhouse). These veterans have made it through war, only to fight a new battle when they get home. They go through so much pain and distress when they get home that they feel that they have to take their lives. We need to change
The main idea of this publication is to create a collective understanding of the Army Profession by providing the Service members the guidelines and definitions of it and the Army Ethic. Fail to follow or even understand the concept of rules of behavior based on ideas about what is morally good and bad have been the reason of studies, due to the consequences this could bring upon the service. This publication defines the membership and affiliation of competent individuals in character and commitment, five essential characteristics legitimize the Army as a military profession, trust, military expertise, honorable service, spirit de corps, and stewardship. Trust is vital in society at school, at work, at home, among the citizens, trust in the skills of those you depend on, and trust that the mail will be deliver to your home to give an example. American people perhaps have lost or are close to lose the trust in the highest level of government being this the direct orchestrator of the actions perform by the armed forces, after planning and rehearsals every move is directed and now that the population does not support or agreed with many of these actions government has to act to regain the support and reassurance of the masses. American people as society trust their arm forces to perform their duty to protect them and their country, support and defend the constitution society trust the strongest Army in the world due to the technology it possess and the will soldiers have
My father, Christopher J. Bufmack , had a career as an infantryman and fought in the Afghanistan war. When he was 16 he left from home to join job corps and he had some experiences as a kid and young adult that impact him now.
I originally became interested in Naval service because of my military heritage. When I was younger, both of my grandfathers took care of me every day while my parents went to work. One of my grandfathers served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and the other served as a Merchant Marine during the Second World War and received the Purple Heart. Both of these veterans were instrumental in the early development of discipline and integrity. It is because of them that I gained a curiosity for military history. My grandfather that served as a Merchant Marine died when I was in first grade and it have always felt that it is my obligation to follow in his service to the United States by becoming an officer in the U.S. Navy. Once I started in high school, my grandfather that served in Korea began to tell me stories about his experience in the war which made me feel even further obligated to serve this great country.
By serving as a military officer, I can influence others by helping them achieve their potential and grow as an individual. Through serving as a physical therapist, I can influence others by helping them restore their function. Military personnel are some of the most disciplined individuals but even they need encouragement when something happens that requires rehabilitation. I would come alongside them as a PT and use the knowledge I acquired in school
There are a number of significant difficulties for today’s military - the Global War on Terrorism or what has recently been termed the “Long War;” weapon system acquisitions and personnel draw downs. The focus of this paper is on one strategic component of the military quest—Leadership. More specifically, it will center on servant leadership and its impact on the military’s vision.
My great grandmother showed me old pictures of my great-grandfather serving in the Army. She would tell incredible stories about him being in Berlin. I enjoyed hearing my great-grandmother reminiscing about all the accomplishments he achieved while he was
Joining the military was astonishing in very many aspects in my life and it truly molded me into who I am today. I will genuinely say that the most important people in my life are my mother and father. I am not a parent myself but I have had years to only imagine how tough parenting can be; especially when raising three stubborn boys. My mother and father are very open minded and kind hearted to everyone regardless of who they are. I will be honest here and say that I may not have been as grateful as I should have been when I was a younger kid, but that’s just life. When you are younger, everything is very simple and do not realize the little things in life. I had no other worries except for, “What’s for dinner?”. The military made me realize how much I appreciated and very much needed my loved ones. Travelling far away to Marine Corps Recruiting Depot, San Diego California and starting my very own journey was one of the toughest decisions at that time to make for myself.
My classmates have always been a major part of my life. They’re always Although some of us won’t get along well, in the end, we will always band together to get our work done. We’ve done this on several occasions, it seems like we do it over every day. Together as a class, we have worked together on a project called HC Hype. HC Hype is a website that our class published that contains a variety of written works, videos, and tips. To be honest, at first it seemed like a far-fetched dream to me something that would never happen. Yet we set aside our differences to make a quality product, that in my opinion, was impossible. In the end, we felt a sense of pride knowing that all our hard work finally paid off.
All throughout the country, veterans come back into society struggling to continue living out their lives. They have troubles adjusting back into civilian life. These former soldiers went out onto that battlefield to fight for us, so the least we can do is show our support and help make their adjustment back into civilian life as smooth as possible. I believe there are four main issues that are most important in regards to the challenges returning veterans face: homelessness, suicide attempts, a need for job training and jobs, and the fixing of the disability system. Many veterans coming back from deployment struggle with homelessness.
While I admire the work that many veterans have done, I don’t believe that I would be able to make the same sacrifices as they did. As a service to their country, they took it upon themselves to protect those unknown to them. They are a part of something greater than themselves in which they are essential to the outcome of the whole. All roles are of equal importance because without them all our rights would be unfound. There would be no freedom of speech or right to a fair trial. Our country would be without purpose if we
INTRODUCTION: How many people have a Veteran in their family or know one? If yes do you help them or is it someone else’s problem. Well many people think it’s someone else problem, but the truth is it’s our problem.
We must help our veterans, there are all too many who have trouble reintegrating into the normal world to ignore. Along with getting used to regular life, many also have mental conditions. Out of 73,00 veterans who fought in Iraq and Afghanistan, nearly 34, 00 have been diagnosed with PTSD
Men and Women who served for their country should be given all respect and care when they return home. Veterans come home with injuries that can affect them from living a healthy comfortable life. Their injuries can be from physical to mental injuries like PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) from combat. Veterans who come home with these injuries should be provided, by the government, health care where they can live an enjoyable life. Having veterans take an alternative rout like qualifying for medicade could help a lot of these people struggling. Many of these veterans are also homeless and need help finding jobs. Government programs could be put in place that could help find jobs for the veterans. Veterans should be able to come home and life a healthy happy life where they can contribute back to there societies. Governments should provide for the needs of the veterans to keep them healthy and supply them with jobs so they have food, clothes, and shelter.
Millions of men and women have served in the armed forces before me and millions more will serve after. Some have paid the ultimate sacrifice; some lost and captured, others received wounds, physically and or emotionally, and that time
Throughout history our country has had many leaders. Whether you’re the leader of a business, military platoon, or the leader of our great nation you were withheld with the honor and trust to govern the actions and best interests of fellow Americans. But just because you have achieved the title of a leader does not by default make you a good leader. A good leader is a person who has risen above and beyond to show cooperation, perseverance, and respect to decisions made by those still above you at one point in time. “As a seasoned member of the military, you’ve risen through the ranks because you understood your mission and performed your duties with distinction. At this stage of your career, your most important contribution may be how well you take care of the service members and
