1. One of the major influences on German Baroque music was the church and the other major influence was the state. Germany at that time wasn't how it is now. Germany was composed of small states and each of those small states had its own Court. In some rare cases it also had Court Musicians. The composers salary depended on their status and if they had the support of a king or prince.

It’s hard to imagine a bride processing down the aisle without one of two pieces playing in your head, the first likely being “Here Comes The Bride.” But of the second, we generally do not hear much about the composer himself beyond the ever-arranged and widely known canon; Canon in D Major by Johann Pachelbel. Most known for this Canon in D Major, Johann Pachelbel is considered one of the most influential musical figures from the Baroque era. Many musical scholars believe that J. S. Bach and G. F. Handel are the two most important, influential composers of the Baroque period. Both of these men were born in Germany in 1685, and since they came into existence around the same time, they share some similarities. As an introductory statement, Bach and Handel were born into two very different families. Handel did not come from a musical family; his father wanted him to study law. By age nine, his talent was too obvious for his father to ignore and Handel began to study with a local organist and composer. On the contrary, Bach came from a long line of musicians. Bach also had four sons which became gifted composers, in their own right. Bach, like Handel, also started as an organist
Handel and Bach composed music for similar types of instruments and composed musical pieces and vocal works. They both wrote compositions for some of the same type of works such as Fugues, Preludes, and Suites. Although, Handel wrote some operas, Bach wrote a large variety of church music. Majority of Bach’s compositions were Cantatas and Passions. What made Handel’s music rather different then Bach was the fact that he used simple harmonic progression. Bach’s music was written with sudden surprising harmonic shifts and he also focused on adding extra ordinary chords throughout his works. Handel preferred using simple textures, by creating music with three different melodies that were to be played at once, while several other instruments were being played at the same time. Bach on the other hand creatively composed his music
Young Goodman Brown and The Village have similarities between the woods and their communities. The woods are the main point of view in both of the stories. The woods were a place that keeps the villages a secret. The woods mean a lot in these stories if there were no woods there wouldn’t be known villages.

I am a Spanish major and double minor in Linguistics and French, and have focused my linguistics study on language in literature, conversations, music and social perspectives. I am seeking a teaching assistantship for the 2016-2017 academic year. In addition, through my university’s McNair Scholars Program and with the guidance of Angela Vidal Rodriquez-Vidal, I have explored an interdisciplinary study of Latin America and Spain, focusing on their history, culture, politics and Language. This course of study sparked my interests in semantics and syntax of the Spanish language, which was further bolstered by my internship with Michigan State. I hope to continue on this venture by obtaining a Teaching Assistant position.
Baroque Period, during which a few of the greatest composers on this planet were born, brought classical music onto a whole new level. The word “Baroque”, which came from the Portuguese for “the imperfect pearl”, implies strange, extravagant and overblown. Toccata, fugue, chorale, ortario, and the concerto Grosso, all of these special musical forms were created and represent this period. The six main characteristics: increased emotional expression, contrast, use of basso continuo, continued harmonic development, use of ornament, and the emphasis of improvisation, molded the unique style of music of the Baroque period.
The Baroque Period (1600-1750) was mainly a period of newly discovered ideas. From major new innovations in science, to vivid changes in geography, people were exploring more of the world around them. The music of the baroque period was just as extreme as the new changes. Newly recognized composers such as Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, and Monteverdi were writing entirely new musical ideas and giving a chance for new voices to be heard that were normally not thought of sounds. Their musical legacy is still recognized today, and is a treasured discovery of outstanding compositions being reiterated with every performance of them.
