In eleventh-century Scotland, the fight for the throne began. Macbeth, a leader-like figure, meets with the Witches in an open space. They begin to tell Macbeth that he will become king. As Macbeth contemplates this new prophecy, his wife helps guide him in making rash decisions to make it accurate. The current king of the time is in the way of Macbeth, so Macbeth kills him. Later, his friends cause similar issues, and he decides they must die too. Being placed with a choice regarding the prophecy, Macbeth decides to follow it and is willing to do whatever it takes, including burying his past actions …show more content…

In Act I Scene II, Lady Macbeth persuades him to kill Duncan. Some may think this seems to be what Lady Macbeth is driving into making these decisions. Nevertheless, Macbeth is fully conscious of his decision when it comes to the final action. After the killing, Macbeth returns to their chamber with his hands covered in blood. Macbeth states, “Will all great Neptune’s ocean wash this blood, clean from my hand? No. This my hand will rather, The multitudinous seas incarnadine, Making the green one red” (Macbeth, 2, III, 60-63). Macbeth tries to wash the king’s blood, but feels there will never be enough water. Beginning to regret his decision, Macbeth is now king and the leader of all. During the prophecy, the witches tell Macbeth that Banquo’s sons will later be the king. While still riddled with guilt from killing the king, Macbeth decides that he must also kill Banquo and his sons because they may get in his way. As the murders have left to eliminate them, Macbeth throws a dinner party to celebrate Banquo. Once Banquo has died, his ghost appears in Macbeth’s seat.
