Whirlwind I, the precursor to modern-day computers, was completed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Servomechanisms Laboratory in 1951 (Tom Rosko). MIT was found on April 10, 1861 by William Barton Rogers, two days before the beginning of Civil War. The first building of MIT was built in 1866 at Boston’s Back Bay,and by the end of the century, the buildings scattered throughout Copley Square. In 1916, all of the MIT moved to Cambridge, except for The School of Architecture which remained in Boston, during a three-day alumni reunion (MIT Libraries). According to the College Board, the estimated fees needed to attend MIT is $49,452 per year. Paying $49,452 per year is a large amount of money; most families cannot maintain daily living after paying $49,452 per year, some families cannot even earn $50,000 a year. The cost to attend MIT is indeed expensive, therefore students who are planning to apply for MIT should be informed and start preparing money long before the application. Despite the fact that the cost is expensive, 100% of freshmen with need received a first year financial aid package with an average of $42,175 (College Board). If a freshmen year undergraduate meets the requirements for applying for financial aid, the student will definitely obtain financial aid from the college. Then, the student will only have to pay an average of $7,277 per year, which is affordable for most people. Undergraduates in MIT are 37% white, 28% Asian, 15% Hispanic/Latino, 10% non-resident alien, 6% two or more races, 6% Black or African American, and 2% ethnicity unknown (College Board). Undergraduates in MIT came from all around the world, they all have different cultures and traditions. Students from all around the world with different cultures, who wants to apply for MIT, does not have to worry about not blending in with other students, considering that most students came from other places with different cultures as well. Along with different ethnicity, 96% (4,346) out of the total of 4,527 undergraduates in MIT lives on campus (College Board). Apparently, most undergraduates decided to live on campus; only 4% of total undergraduates lives off campus. Therefore, students who want to apply for MIT does not have to consider about not having friends when they live on
