I decided to do this part of the play because it's where everything goes wrong. Oberon asked Puck to smear the potion on Demetrius eyes so that he will fall in love with helena. But Puck spreads the magic potion over Lysander’s eyes, thinking Lysander is Demetrius. Lysander falls into love with Helena, who thinks he is toying with her. Then, Puck spreads the potion over Demetrius’ eyes, so that he, too, is in love with Helena. Helena thinks that both boys are cruelly mocking her, while Hermia is left alone and equally confused. Puck's mistake separated true lovers that is hermia and lysander. This part therefore is very significant to the play. Since i am making a children's book, i was more intended to draw the pictures as if they were drawn by children and not use anime. I used colored pencils instead of water colors or markers because they smudge and they bleed through paper. …show more content…
Lysander saying how he only meant that they are one soul and two bodies and he wasn't expecting anything else shows how much of gentlemen Lysander is. This scene exhibit elements of
When Puck begins to interact with the four lovers very shortly after, however, Egeus's ridiculous accusations of Lysander bewitching Hermia take an ironic echo as Oberon bewitches Titania with a love potion, suddenly bringing the ridiculousness of Egeus's statements into a new light. Puck, the perpetrator,
When the love potion was put on Lysander he had no feelings for Hermia but she still stayed true to him. Oberon wants to get involved in everybody's love life and Puck his sidekick puts the love potion on the wrong Athenian man and the love quadrilateral get confusing. Lysander said “ She doesn’t see Hermia- Hermia keep sleeping and do not come near me ever again! Eating too many sweets make people sick to their stomachs and people always hates mistakes they made in the past worse than anyone else hates those mistakes. Hermia, you're the sweet I’ve had too much of and the mistake I used to make so I hate you more than anyone else does.-I’ll use all my talents and efforts to serve Helena and bring her honor.” (Shakespeare.2.2.59-61.) Hermia
Displaying her anger, she tells Helena: “I am amazed at your passionate words. /I scorn you not: it seems that you scorn me.”(III.ii.223-224). Although it is nice that Oberon cared about Helena, he should not abuse his power by meddling with the affairs of humans. Though Oberon tried to blame Puck for all the problems: “This is thy negligence. Still thou mistakest, /Or else committ’st thy knaveries willfully.”(III.ii.356-357), It was of no fault to Puck that the love potion was used on the wrong man because the only way that Oberon described Demetrius was by his Athenian garments, and both Demetrius and Lysander were wearing Athenian garments: “Did you not tell me I should know the man /By the Athenian garment he had on?”(III.ii.359-360). It was Oberon’s fault that the four lovers had a confusion because he was the one who ordered Puck to use the juice on Demetrius and Lysander. Also, Oberon knew that Puck was careless and should not have trusted him with such an important task. Although Oberon did not give precise instructions, Puck rushed and acted without thinking, much like his Master often does. When he was searching through the forest, Puck said:
He doesn’t know these men so it was an understandable mistake. Since the spell makes the victim fall in love with the first person the see, Lysander falls in love with Helena and leaves Hermia. The end result of these events makes the stories interesting and is apart of the
The themes of this play are mostly to do with love and magic however the play as a whole is a comedy. The magic scene is the scene that brings the whole play together. Without it the lovers would not be called lovers and there wouldn’t be a marriage. Before puck put the love potion on them Lysander was in love with Hermia but her dad wanted her to marry Demetrius; and Helena was in love with Demetrius on the other hand Demetrius was not in love with either of them. Puck sorted things out by putting a love potion on Demetrius so that he falls in love with Helena. The funny part about it all is when they are all confused when they awake from what they think is a dream which is a dramatic irony because we know it wasn’t a dream but in fact a reality.
Lysander goes on and on bragging about himself to Theseus in an attempt to win his favor. This speech feels like begging, but with an air of arrogance in his tone. Lysander starts his speech with “I am, my lord, as well derived as he, /As well possessed.” (1.1.99)
Ryan: And of course, Lysander wakes up to Helena, falling madly in love with her. But then Helena´s all like, you´re mocking me, what did I do to deserve all this embarrassment. But Lysanders dead serious, he was all out for Helena and started following her through the forest
Demetrius loves Hermia and Helena loves Demetrius. Puck shakes things up when he makes both boys fall in love with Helena. This scene shows a
First, Oberon gave Puck specific instructions to apply the flower love potion to Demetrius when he was sleeping, but Puck mistook Lysander for Demetrius and used the flower love potion on him. Soon after Lysander awoke to Helena. This put him in an
The strong friendship between Helena and Hermia quickly disintegrated when they became involved with the two men. The love potion was meant to help, but Puck's mistake managed to completely reverse the relationship. When both Demetrius and Lysander were under the influence of the "love-in-idleness" flower, Helena believed that both were mocking her.
There are many instances of struggling with balance and accord between the two worlds, fairy, and mortal. Puck was told to give a love potion to Demetrius for him to fall in love with Helena, but instead messed with the lovers and their couples by giving the love potion to both Lysander and Demetrius, “ [He anoints Lysander’s eyelids with the nectar.] When thou wak’st, let love forbid Sleep his seat on thy eyelid. So, awake when I am gone, For I must now to Oberon” (2.2.85-89). Through Puck’s mistake, he has made both Demetrius and Lysander fall in love with Helena. This can be seen as a struggle of balance of power and accord as Puck is showing his superiority and show to the lovers his capabilities. There is no true agreement in this part of the play, the Athenian lovers don’t agree with what has happened to them. The love potion that Oberon and Puck use has lead to many disagreements for the couples, in this
The rise of tension between characters is another characteristic of comedic plays. After Oberon sees the way that Helena has been treated by Demetrius, he orders Puck to apply the juice to the eyes of Demetrius. Puck accidentally applies the juice to Lysander’s eye, which causes him to fall in love with Helena. After the mistake had been caught, Oberon sends Puck to watch Helena and Oberon applies the juice to Demetrius’ eyes. This causes both men to fall for Helena and now the battle is for Helena and not Hermia. Helena is convinced that this is a joke or prank because neither of the two men loved her before. Now because of Puck’s mistakes the four decide to find a
Above all the tensions created by the discussion of marriage, Lysander deliver a quotes to his love Hermia. “The course of true love never did run smooth…” (Act 1, Scene 1, line 134) is a famous quote by Lysander. In the quote he conveys to readers that love is not perfect, it also has its ups and downs and that he and Hermia are going through a tough situation. Hermia and Lysander both love each other and have made a plan to meet in a forest and then escape Athens however the problem arises when Hermia has tells Helena this and she plans to tell Demetrius about this so that he will love her and not Hermia. The King of fairies− Oberon hears all this and decides to settle the dispute between all of them. He instructs his assistant Robin Goodfellow to search for Demetrius and put the love juice on his eyelids so that he is compelled to love Helena, he informs him about the dressing style of Demetrius in "thou shalt know the man by the Athenian garments he hath on" (Act 2, Scene 1, line 263-264). However there is a problem, in the forest there are two Athenian men dressed in Athenian garments and their identities were mistaken; instead of putting the love juice on Demetrius's eyelids Robin Goodfellow put it on Lysander's eyelids. Now Lysander "loves" Helena and wants to get away from Hermia. After discovering Robin Goodfellow's mistake, Oberon tries to correct this mistake by putting the same love juice in Demetrius's so that he loves Helena eyes however
This time he places it on the right person’s eyes, though both Demetrius and Lysander are in love with Helena, so Lysander and Hermias’ true love is still mixed up. When Puck finally places the love potion on Lysander’s eyes once again, he falls back in love with Hermia. Though their true love took a few turns, it finally ended up being okay. Therefore, Lysander’s quote “the course of true love never did run smooth,”(28) occurs for them.
Oberon decides to give Puck a potion in which was the leftovers of the flower in which he used for his wife. He wants to give the leftovers of this flower to puck in order for him to give it to Demetrius. Then Demetrius would use it for his eyes and without knowing that this was a potion, then he would fall only for Helena.
