“I don’t understand! Why won’t you come back with me? Can’t you see that the Resistance needs you?” Rey continued the uneasy trek down the island’s cliff, trying to keep her footing balanced on the side stones as she chased after a worn looking, old man who was supposed to be a legend. Fury overtook her at his dismal. He refused to return back with her, which would lose her only chance at a teacher for her journey to a Jedi. Wasn’t he an ally of the very people that his bravery and strength inspired to fight against the dreaded First Order? Luke Skywalker. She had been so sure he would be adamant to return with her. Perhaps he had been stranded here, as there was no other ship to be seen within miles. Or the saber brought back, which had been …show more content…
“Because of this.” And she withdrew the blue light saber and it colored her face with a soft luminosity. His eyes fixed on her, her gaze passionate. His body turned away towards the water, its color turning gold, as the sun was on the horizon, awaiting to set. The wind blew, the white fabric of the Skywalker’s cloak dancing behind him. Suddenly, a green illumination emerged and his own light saber was in hand; Rey’s eyes widened at the sight of another. Luke turned to her with an unreadable air. “Why are you willing to risk your life?” He approached in an arch slowly and learnedly. Rey could feel small curls brushing against her cheeks and back of her neck, as the girl mimicked the elder’s movement. The Millennium Falcon was in eye view, a shining beacon among all the natural landmarks. She wasn’t sure what she would say to the Resistance, to General Organa, to Poe and Finn, and BB-8 too, if he sent her packing home. Could she really give up like that? After everything that happened on Starkiller Base, she shook her head at the notion of that. She couldn’t just leave all of it behind her. Millions of lives have perished due to the First Order, including a man who had become her friend and maybe could have been like a father. He fell, because his son fell to the darkness. Rey knew that the man may deserve death, but if she could save …show more content…
The little droid practically scrambled to rush to the Jedi and toppled over in the process, making plenty of beeping and whistling noises as it struggled, to no avail, to return upright. Rey stood back as Luke approached the droid with a chuckle and placed him vertical once again. “Hey buddy. Sorry I couldn’t take you with me. But I knew you would be the best droid for the job until the time was right.” R2 only chirped at him in a tone of understanding. It rocked on its legs, being as it excitedly told Luke how Rey had protected the tiny BB-8 unit that had the last piece of his map. Luke smiled and turned back to her, “Well it would seem that it was fate that brought you here, Rey.” She snorted with a smile. “I probably still would have been on Jakku if it had not been for the droid with a piece of the map to Luke Skywalker.” She then paused for a moment, trying to remember when she had given her name. The scenario twirled around in her head, but she found no point in which she had introduced herself. “Wait a minute, how do you-” Rey stepped towards the two reunited friends, only to be swept up like dust under a large arm of fur into a group hug. “Rrrrrrr-ghghghghgh!” “Hi Chewie. It’s- urgh- good to see you
Luke is broken, but is not yet ready to give up, as he escapes one last time. Luke runs away and escapes into an old church, launching into a soliloquy asking God for guidance. God’s answer comes in the form of desertion as the police encircle the church. Luke realizes that he’s a goner no matter what, so he approaches a window and shouts the famous line “what we have here is a failure to communicate.” In return for his final act of defiance he gets a fatal shot in the throat. Remaining defiant to the end is an expected characteristic of Luke’s courageous nature.
“ The force will be with you, always.” This is advice given to Luke Skywalker by his mentor Obi Wan Kenobi. In the archetypal hero’s journey a wise and experienced mentor such as Obi Wan will often help guide or offer advice to the youthful and budding hero. Throughout time and across different cultures there are certain symbols, events and characters which can be found in literature and Star Wars IV: A New Hope follows this trend step by step. During the film Star Wars IV: A New Hope, the main protagonist Luke undergoes a stereotypical, or in literary terms an archetypal hero’s journey. Luke starts from humble beginnings and when he is called upon to save the galaxy; he then faces various tests which help him hone skills that he will need for the final life or death battle.
He could have backed out in the beginning and not have had to journey with Obi Wan Kenobi to save the princess and then the galaxy from the dark side, but he did it anyways. This also shows how Luke is ethical and does what is right, even if it may cost him his life. It means a lot to Luke to make sure Darth Vader and the dark side know he is a force to be reckoned with after they killed his aunt and uncle looking for the information stored on R2D2. He, also, unlike Han Solo, treats the princess with the utmost respect while she travels with them and gives them what information she knows about the Death Star to ensure its destruction. With the combination of the Force, his unmatched courage, and his ethical decision making Luke is able to defeat all the problems he has forced upon
In the hospital, the doctors x-ray shows that Luke had broken his leg in 2 separate places, which was bad for him. The doctor tells him he is lucky, if one of his breaks had been an inch higher, a metal plate would of had to been surgically implanted. The doctor also tells him his football career is probably over, which made luke upset. After about an hour, Luke is told that he had visitors, and that’s when all his friends show up. They started asking the normal things “how are you feeling?” and “can you walk on it?” and
When they got trapped in the trash contractor and Luke was pulled under the water, he started acting like someone who is experience by after being release he didn’t wait for someone to think of asking R2D2 and C-3P0 for help. The experience of dying can bring different outcomes for everyone, but for Luke “Out of the moment of death comes a new life” (McMillan-Ramirez) because he had the will to live and was willing to command everyone to do something. The part where he finally enters adulthood was when he saw Kenobi died as “There comes a time, however, when the individual has to become self-reliant and not dependent but himself the authority” (Campbell) it was when he truly had to give up his parental figure that he could lean on. The death of Kenobi proves that “The father dies for his sake, freeing Luke's libido; as Ben tells him, "The Force will be with you always” (Gordon), Kenobi died to become one with the force which he would become more powerful and always be with Luke in his time of need. Luke needed to have his own path without the interference of Kenobi because if Kenobi would live the hope of the force wouldn’t be
As he did, visions of the near future filled his mind. He saw himself screaming in agony as Obi-Wan cut him down. Felt his arm and legs slashed away, and the rough super-heated stone of the riverbank burning and biting into his flesh. And that would not happen. He would not allow it. Instead, he used the Force to alter his path, landing in a crouch before Obi-Wan as his one-time Master's blade slashed the air where he would have been. There was no joy in his heart as his lightsaber tore through Obi-Wan's abdomen. He loved his former Master, loved him as a friend and a brother. But... there was no other
“Use the force Luke” is a phrase commonly said to Luke Skywalker by his mentor. This super natural force is crucial to Luke’s success and the completion of his quest.
Luke Skywalker is a pop culture hero to children and adults alike. However, have you ever thought what makes Luke a hero? Luke, throughout his journey, has faced many obstacles. For example, having to destroy the Death Star or having to fight strong foes like Darth Vader. He also has to deal with the emotional scar of the evil man, Darth Vader, being his father. Luke, however, did not have to fight through this journey alone. He had the help of Obi-Wan, Han Solo, Princess Leia, C3-PO, Chewbacca, R2D2, and others. Luke has many definable traits that could make him be considered a hero, however, I believe his most prominent traits are his bravery and selflessness, but he has the weakness of not being able to control his emotions well.
Luke’s goal was to challenge the establishment (to which he seemed to think was unjust) and make an example of hope for his fellow men in that they wouldn’t have to bow down to Dragline. Interestingly enough, after this fight, Dragline becomes acquainted with Luke and becomes very friendly.
He races home to find his family dead and nothing left but becoming a jedi (A New Hope Scene-by-scene. Web. 2010). In an effort to get to the Princesses planet they go to the Cantina, a bar filled with scam artist, where the find Han Solo and his co-pilot Chewbacca. Once they’ve settled on a payment their journey begins. What Obi-Wan and Luke don’t know is that in an effort to get Leia to talk Darth threatens and then follow through with blowing up her home planet.(Web. SparkNotes.com. Star Wars Episodes iv-vi. 2014) Eventually Han’s ship is pulled up by Darth’s and then they are forced to fight their way out. Obi-Wan encounters and allows Darth to defeat him, meanwhile Leia is rescued by Han, Luke, and the others. Without Obi-Wan but the rescue of the Princess the only thing left to do is defeat Darth’s ship, the Death Star. Against all odds and the discovery of the force Luke blows it up and is later awarded for heroic nature, as is Han and Chewbacca, ending the first of the epic series.
Luke Skywalker chooses to join Obi Wan Kenobi, and through their journey Luke was changed from a parentless boy to a Jedi in training (Star Wars IV). One of the biggest parts in a Hero’s Journey is the life changing event that causes the hero to leave his home in the first place. When Luke’s aunt and uncle are killed, he is alone and has no reason to stay on his home planet of Tatooine so goes with Obi Wan. He changes his whole life around in a very short period of time, like his master, all he has left is his training. Both Romeo and Juliet changed their lives around for each other, even though it resulted in death (Shakespeare). The feuding families could never know about their children’s relationship because they hadn’t adjusted to the idea of ending their fighting and still hated each other. Romeo went first and Juliet followed behind and the death toll went up, if the families had changed their views toward each other , no one would have lost their lives. Those who are open to change, will be introduced to many life altering
