Throughout history humans have shown to be both wonderful and awful. There are many examples of wonderful humans that changed the world for the better like Gandhi. There are some examples of awful humans that made the world worse like Adolf Hitler. Many people think that humans are generally good and are lead to do good things. I believe that humans are bad because they give power to those that abuse it and they separate different people from each other based on race, gender, etc. Let me start my argument by giving an example from the novel Lord of the Flies. William Golding’s novel Lord of the Flies shows that humans are generally bad and lead to do evil through the actions of the character named Jack Merridew. Jack Merridew is kid who just wants absolute power and to control the entire group of kids. He rules by fear, for example in the book he will randomly punish a kid to instill fear into the others so they won’t betray him or rise against him. He also gets kids to follow him by means of promises, like the promise to get them pig’s meat so they can eat something else besides fruit. …show more content…

Piggy is smart, organized, chubby, and not very calm and collected like the character Simon. Overall, he is completely different than most of the kids that are stuck with him on this island. The fact that he is different from everyone causes them to separate him from the rest of the group and make fun of him more than others and also beat him up more than others. He is criticized if he does one small thing wrong, he is constantly called “fatty”, Jack will beat him up for no reason, and most don’t let him talk and give his opinions at the meetings.
