The topic I chose was about the London Grenfell fire. Initial reports were that a refrigerator on the fourth floor may have exploded and caused the fire, however, after further investigation that turned out to be untrue. What contributed to the tragic deaths and unnecessary injures could have been prevented if the company wasn't trying to save money. In addition, the building had faulty alarms that residents who did survive could not hear and each apartment did not have a fire proof door which contains a fire in the apartment in which it starts. In my opinion, peoples safety should always come first, it shouldn't matter the cost. In the long run, it ends up costing much more once the love one is lost due to a
The Triangle Factory fire not only affected the city of New York, but also the rest of the country. It will forever change the way our country looked at safety religions in factories and buildings. 146 people died in this fire, 123 women and 23 men most of the victims were Italian and Jewish and were immigrants that we're happy to be in America and to have freedom. No one knows how the fire started it could have been intentionally or accidentally.
In West Warwick Rhode Island, on February 20th, 2003, during the performance of the band Great White, a fire broke out that eventually claimed the lives of 100 people and injured an additional 200. The band’s tour manager arranged for, and ignited pyrotechnic props, large fireworks designed to display a shower of sparks. The sparks ignited foam soundproofing near stage. The fire spread quickly. Most were killed either in the crush to exit the building or overcome by fumes while trying to find an exit. The immediate cause was well documented due to witness reports and a videotape that was taken during the concert. In the period that followed the tragedy there were many attempts to fix blame. Following a Grand Jury
In October 8, 1871,Chicago,Illinois was a city ready to burn by the nightmare of wood.
The Chicago fire was a huge part of our history. We can never forget about the Chicago fire because it changed how some people lived. The Chicago fire affected people in many ways. Many people had an idea about how the fire started, where it started and who caused it. It took years to rebuild what had been destroyed, the effect of the chicago fire was remarkable.
Lastly, was the topic I found most compelling, community colleges. Did you know 55 out of 100 graduating students at a university actually went to a community college? That's an amazing statistic because it gives a second chance for those of us who didn't meet university requirements. Not to mention, some of the faculty told us they graduated from Goldenwest as well. This information made me feel more secure that I was on the right track to my academic success.
My topic is how my view changed after watching a video about Sojourner Truth reenacted by Kerry Washington. The video was called “Ain’t I a Woman” and how women weren’t treated equally like men
In the seventeenth century, London was one of the most important and rapidly expanding capitals in Europe. Transforming from a medieval town made of wooden buildings and limited to the Roman City walls to a modern metropolis of brick and stone expanding beyond the original wall; however, this century was also filled with disaster. The Great Fire of 1666, transformed the City from its medieval roots to the modern City present today; however, first it brutally destroyed the City in a blaze of fire over a course of three days. Taking a historical look at the progression of the Great Fire of London and how there were increased consequences faced by the City due to the decisions made by an inexperienced city official, the reasons the City officials declined the plan that Wren presented for the rebuild of the City, and how the rebuilding caused a social divide in the City that is still present in contemporary London.
I did mine on smoking due to all the negative effects it has on people and even more importantly the fact of secondhand smoke. I needed the skills I learned from Dr. King’s letter from Birmingham jail for this. By reading his letter, I was able to learn that there are three different kinds of appeals one can use to argue your beliefs. Pathos refers to using an emotional appeal, Logos to using a logical appeal and Ethos to using an authoritative appeal. By using all three we can see how the different appeals work hand in hand to cover multiple sides of an argument.
I chose the subject of the controversial law changes in the Boy Scouts. This subject meant a lot to me because I was in the scouts for many years and I had seen what had happened to some troops in my area because of these changes. As I wrote I found it a lot harder to put
Three controversial topics that I chose to discuss were animal testing, lowering the drinking age, and gun control. Animal testing has led to the cures and treatments of all types, and with an animals shorter lifespans researchers can watch the development over a lifetime in just a few years. However, since I am a huge animal lover, I am not okay with it. It is just as inhumane to experiment on helpless animals as it is on humans. Animals suffer too, they just can’t voice their opinions. Another Topic is lowering the drink age which sounds like an awful idea. That restriction was placed at 21 for a reason, it wasn’t random. Although it might stop the rebellious drinking teenagers do now, they still prove every day that they are not capable
On June 14, Grenfell Tower, one of the more modest buildings in Kensington and Chelsea suffered one of the most horrific fires in decades. The fire caused at least 80 casualties and some people are still unaccounted for. As of now it is said the fire was due to a facade renovation that housed combustible polyethylene in between sheets of aluminum, all in efforts to make the face of the building look appealing and blend in with it’s neighboring buildings. The management company in charge of the renovation and their partner consultants wanted to lower the cost of the job by using less fire resisting cladding and zinc and using the flammable polyethylene and aluminum, resulting in a price cut of £293,368, which is about $380,000. The renovation
The topic I chose is letting women, metics, and slaves to vote. Everyone has a voice to be heard. With that being said, everyone’s vote counts because we are all human and deserve the same rights. Slaves get used to do all the work for the rich man’s family. Can you believe they let a slave raise and take care of a baby or a child like if it were its own?
The factor I had was the ethical approach to kidney dialysis. I chose the topics risks of dialysis, quality of patients life, and forgoing patients(both good and bad for this), my favourite one was forgoing patients but I didn’t had time to write further in. For quality of life I think it is a very important topic to discuss what is the point of living if you feel like you are dead? I chose this topic because my aunt is taking dialysis and she is suffering, so I thought this would be a good topic to discuss about. Next time, I
Arson is “any willful or malicious burning or attempt to burn, with or without intent to defraud, a dwelling house, public building, motor vehicle or aircraft, [or] personal property of another” (Bartol & Bartol, 2011. P 463). Arson comes in many forms – juveniles vandalizing property, businesses trying to collect insurance money, and murderers covering up their crimes are just a few of the examples arson investigators deal with. The reasons why arson is committed and the psychology behind arson are as diverse as the crime itself. There is no one perfect psychological profile of an arsonist. Young, old, educated, illiterate, sane, insane, rich and poor all can become arsonists. With such a wide range of suspect characteristics,
Apartment fires are every day incidents that happens in just about every other city and all it takes is one careless spark that could end in damages running into millions. Though life in the city turns one vulnerable to the many other risks including, vandalism or burglary, break-in, or accidents caused by fire, most of the time there is not much thought spent on getting your belongings covered through insurance, unless it is made mandatory by the State or by some other form of compulsion.
