I have attended this course since I want to learn more about the source of stress, the responds of ourselves when facing stress, and how to release pressure. After attending this course, I have joined some in-class activities and finished some exercise after the lesson and those of them make me learn more about the stress. To begin with, I have finished an in-class exercise (Locus of control). In this exercise, I have a deeper understanding of external and internal locus control as the exercise contain lots of examples and I need to distinguish them. This exercise helps me realize the locus of control. Moreover, I have done the SDL worksheet (1) and it is a guideline which makes me know what my stressor is, how the stressor affects on
I really enjoyed watching Kelly Mcgonigal video. I can honest agree with the study of stress By understanding feeling stress can be good for you. My reasons is because stress is a feeling of what you think could be wrong in your life or different obstracles. You can control your thoughts and feelings and think of stress as a challenge. Think of a challeng that you will only conquer. What you think of stress in your life view. Understanding that feeing stress could be helpful, knowing thats its only a battle that you will defeat. In the video students from Harvard University was tested by doing a stress social test. They was taught to be prepared and rethink they
Incidents and Influences: As I observed this students I began to notice a low level of achievement with an external locus of control. He seem to blame his failure in his writing journal to past experiences, saying that “I can’t do this” and “ I hate writing”. Other locus of control consist of effort when he put his head on his desk. When the teacher asked if he would like a study
In order to comprehend external locus of control we must learn its pair, internal locus of control. According to Myers (2013), we have an internal locus of control, controlled by our own effects in the
Rotter’s locus of control is a belief about whether one has control over one’s environment or not. An external locus of control indicates a belief that one is controlled by environment and situations; internal locus of control indicated a belief that one has control over one’s behaviors and abilities. Initially, Patrick was unsure whether his success was a result of his own efforts or his father’s influence and intervention. This insecurity indicated an external locus of control, but Patrick also works hard for his success. This can be seen as an internal locus of control. He control his outcome and success through maintaining his superior academic
Our book describes stress as “any circumstances that threaten or are perceived to threaten one’s well-being and tax one’s coping ability” (Weiten, 2014). Stress is not necessarily a traumatic, life destroying event. It can be as simple a small change in one’s daily schedule. People will have multiple stresses throughout their lifetime. Some will be little and daily, but overtime these add up and can affect you in many ways. Stress can be positive or negative and can take many forms; a few being frustration, internal conflict, change, and pressure. All of which make almost a daily appearance in my life (Weiten, 2014).
The process of locus of control is an individual’s beliefs about what determines their rewards or outcomes in life. It was developed in the 1950’s by Julian B. Rotter. Two examples of locus of control are internal locus of control and external locus of control. It is important to have a locus of control because the students with an internal locus of control tend to study longer and do better academically, while students with an external locus of control tend to blame their surroundings like their teachers, friends, and family.
I chose: An external locus of control because it I the is the certainty that events in one persons life,
Locus of control is the psychological term that either your fate or somethings fate is determined. There are two locus of controls, internal and external. Internal locus of control is all the gifts you receive is determined by his own decisions. An example of internal locus of control is someone failing on a quiz because he didn’t study. External locus of control is either you fate or somethings fate is determined by luck or chance. An example of external locus of control is someone winning the lottery. These two determine how good you do at school. People who have internal locus of control do better than people who have external locus of control. This is because people who have internal locus of control believe that if they study and work
Have you ever heard the words internal locus of control? Do you what it means? An internal locus of control means that you believe you control the circumstance (Lamberton & Minor, 2014). I shall share an incident about a tragedy that occurred in my life in regards to what I believed was internal locus of control.
Someone with an internal locus of control believe their in control of their own fate. This leads to a healthy more positive life and approach to negative circumstances. For example if a person with an external locus of control was sick and needed to go to the hospital , they might choose not to because they believe higher forces will heel them. While on the other hand someone with internal locus of control would go to the hospital.
The purpose of the assessment was to see how I not only scored, but showed in what areas how I think and feel towards certain areas. In the Locus of Control assessment I scored a seven. The result indicate that a high score indicates an external locus of control while a low score indicates an internal locus of control. This test was performed to see how I believe I can control certain events affecting me. While the Multiple Intelligence showed the different learning and development of learning process of each stage. Therefore, the concrete experience gave me a sense of feeling that I am exactly who I am. Meaning the results showed that I care about other’s feelings and learn through different experiences. One statement mention how I often prefer
Central Idea: There are many forms of stress and it is important to know what they are and why they are that way.
When I originally enrolled for this course I figured my background knowledge on the subject was extensive enough that I might not learn all that much. With the upcoming completion of my second degree, now in Human Relations, my first being as a registered nurse, stress management has always played a role in my educational career. I did not realize, however, the extent to which stress connects both directly and indirectly to my life. All of the general findings of stress correlate exactly as expected with myself.

Conclusively, this biggest impact from this class was the enlightenment on how my stress is going to kill me if I do not make immediate changes to my life. Moreover, week one was a reality check for me seeing just what the effects of stress can do to an individual was beneficial in recognizing I was exhibited some of the symptoms of stress-related illnesses. Through the reading material I remember thinking stress is doing unbelievable things physically and mentally to me and I was oblivious. Thankfully, from this course I have learned and implemented some valuable techniques that have been working for me thus far. First, from the Wisdom of the Ages section, this was one of my favorite sections in the text; I learned how to utilize the decompression chamber technique (Manning, Curtis, McMillen & Attenweiler, 2011). With my horrendous history of carrying work stress home and vice versa, this technique has allowed me to use the three R concepts, which are reviewing the previous events, rehearsing for impending activities and relaxing (Manning et al., 2011). Successfully, using my drive time in my vehicle to mentally unwind and relax between has helped me tremendously. In addition, being on the verge of burnout, taking time to escape for a while has been advantageous in my life (Manning et al., 2011). Since I started taking walks at break time at work or when I feel my stress rising and when I am overwhelmed at home I have been giving myself a cooling off period to regroup and
