5 Weakest:

I was very nervous to begin my self-assessment from the reading assignment. I am not one to point out my weaknesses, but this self-assessment was very helpful in determining which areas I need to better myself. I have learned I am scaled as “Good” in categories such as listening, critical thinking, planning, prioritizing, and organization. I am scaled as “Okay” in areas such as writing, speaking, seeking support from others, focusing, and ability to change.
From this self-assessment, I

1). I feel this statement describes many of my strengths from the self-assessment. As an adult learner, my experience in planning, prioritizing, and organizing will promote success in this online program.
I plan to build my weaknesses in writing with practice. “Good writing is an acquired art, and it takes practice” (Bethel University, 2014, p. 4). I hope to see improvement with each essay I write. With practice and guidance from my facilitators, I hope to one day list my writing skills as a “5” on the self-assessment survey.
“If your oral communication skills are poor, your writing skills are likely to be poor, too” (Bethel University, 2014, p. 4). I can hear myself in my living room shouting to my husband and son now, “Ya’ll, that ain’t where them shoes go!” I do have to admit the fact I have a bit of a “Southern accent,” and I do not always speak appropriately. If it is true my communication skills can reflect my writing skills, I need learn to speak more efficiently. Communication skills and writing skills are very important in a professional setting. If a potential employee comes in for a face-to-face interview and cannot speak proper English, it can easily make a difference in obtaining employment.
I plan to improve my writing skills with practice. I plan to be easy on myself while I learn to write well, because I know the facilitators at Bethel are here to help me learn (Bethel University, 2014). I will also attempt to enhance
Throughout the school year of 2015-2016 at the Founders Academy, I have wrote numerous essays, with generally positive results. Several of the essays exceeded expectations, while others reached expectations to a modest extent, but all of the essays were supported by the writing skills that I had learned that year, regardless of my strengths or weaknesses with these skills. These techniques vary extensively, from comparing and contrasting ideas in a text to editing and revising essays for quality results, which is proven in my writing portfolio.
Everyone on the planet has a goal set in life, but only a handful attempt to improve to obtain their goal by studying the subject their goal is in. In my English class, English 101 this quarter I was astonished by how much I had progressed as a writer sharpening my writing skills and also learned a lot about writing that I hadn’t learned before. In my writing portfolio for this quarter I had to write an autobiography essay, a research essay, and this reflection essay to develop my writing skills better. The writing assignments were fun to do because it challenged me to work on essays of different styles that were new to me. The essay assignments helped me grow as a better writer that gave me the self-confidence and skills to take on the world on my own.
Let's be honest, I'm not the best writer. I have had to write paper after paper for about 12 weeks. Writing isn’t my strong suit and I don't think it will ever be a strong suit of mine. During the 12 weeks of composition class, I have seen improvement in my writing. Many people don’t like writing but writing skills are needed in life. I'm a junior in high school and if I want to get scholarships for college, I'm going to need to write essays. Whether I become a plumber or a CEO I need writing skills.
While attending writing class, I learned about the 4 steps in writing, bases for revising, organizing, and connecting specific information, and I also learned about the different types of essays such as descriptive, narrative, process, cause and effect and argumentative essay. I have been a student at Milwaukee Area Technical College for 1 semester, and over the course of my enrollment I have grown and learned more that I knew prior to attending this writing course. Participating in this writing class has taught me so much more than stuff about literature and language, it has taught me another way of expressing myself. I have learned here how to write and express myself, how to think for myself, and how to find the answers to the things that I don 't know. Most importantly I have learned how important technique, outlines and organization are. My goal in this paper is to inform writers about how my writing skills have improved.
I plan to become better by practicing my writing everyday, whether it be a blog post, short story or essay.
Because of this, I hope to overcome those weaknesses and build a good foundation on my writing ability by obtaining a greater understanding of different writing formats, and improving my grammar. I hope to build on my strengths as a persuasive writer by
The self-assessment test (Bethel University, 2014) was a learning experience for me as it showed how much life experience a person absorbs over the years. Skills that would have been an issue for me when I was younger, such as speaking, (Bethel University, 2014) does not seem to be such an issue now.
Although blessed with excellent teachers, I discovered my main weakness was minimal teacher feedback. I am aware that my writing skills are well through praise and grades; however, that is all I know. As a student, achieving success through my writing has always been an ambition. I strive for greatness but, unfortunately, I am unaware of my strengths, let alone my weaknesses, as a writer.
Life is an open book, which everyone motivates to read to the end with an expectation of positive outcome. However, life is also full of challenges for everyone. One has to overcome one’s own obstacles, so he/she could reach to successful. As a student in college, writing skills are really important; it helps to provide a solid foundation for one before climbing up to higher level. During the first year of college, I begin to see the importance of writing skills, I try to improve my writing skills through practice drafting, revising, and editing.
Everyone has a certain set of skills and flaws in any field, whether it be in athletics, communication skills, or in reading and writing. As a student who is constantly learning new techniques in the fields of reading and writing, my skills have been polished enough to say I am adept in both fields. Although I find myself capable of writing and comprehending quality material, I do have many weaknesses that I must strengthen to achieve the level that I want to be at.
During the semester, I learned to focus on my strengths and work on my weaknesses. I could use my organization, paragraph structure, and transition skills to keep high quality writing. This will be helpful to assure an above average grade when I take English 102 during the summer. On the other hand, although students often try to avoid their weaknesses, I see them as useful. Knowing my weaknesses gives me the opportunity to work on them until they become strengths. For example, as I mentioned before, organization is presently my biggest strength. However, at the beginning of the course, it wasn’t. I had to practice and work on it until it became natural and
I want to improve my writing. I know the only way to get better is to practice, a lot. Furthermore, I need to utilize resources like the CRC to excel at practicing. I have never had any sort of tutoring before, so it will be a new experience for me. I plan to get better each time I write a paper. My papers may still have flaws; nonetheless, as long as I am outdoing the last paper before the last, then I am definitely developing my writing skills. I will keep on grinding out the work to become a pristine writer. To summarize, my writing has flaws and weaknesses, my strengths are becoming more resonant; however I WILL improve my writing. I am a powerhouse, I can produce whatever I set my mind to
In English, we have known four skills that have to be mastered by the learner. Those are speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Speaking and reading are innate skills, we acquire them naturally. Meanwhile the ability to read and especially to compose a good writing is not naturally acquired skills. Both of them are usually learned or practiced in formal instructional setting or at education setting. Hadley (1993) mentions in his book that writing skills must be practiced and learned through experience. Therefore, to make a good writing, we have to practice a lot. Sometimes, we need writing instructors to help us during our practices. When working with their students, the writing instructors should take into account both strategy of learning and language skill development.
Writing has always been something I dread. It’s weird because I love talking and telling stories, but the moment I have to write it all down on paper, I become frantic. It’s almost as if a horse race just begun in my mind, with hundreds of horses, or words, running through my mind, unable to place them in chronological order. Because I struggle to form satisfying sentence structure, it takes me hours, sometimes even days, to write one paper. It’s not that I think I’m a “bad writer,” I just get discouraged easily. Needless to say, I don’t think highly of my writing skills. When I was little I loved to both read and write. I read just about any book I could get my hands on, and my journal was my go to for my daily adventures. Although it’s
Overall, this paper has helped me to identify my own weaknesses when it comes to my writing Which I think will equip me to give those areas the extra attention they may need when I’m writing future papers.
