The Atlantans were steeped in magical powers, but lived to serve the rest of humanity. Every day during the summer, the cartoon swept a select set of Atlantans away to an actual place in the world to solve some seemingly unsolvable problem. Tales from Atlantis ended at 10, and that’s when Lucy would get to her own
The Black Atlantic documentary video shows the history of black Americans. It shows that slavery was part of American society from beginning and America would not exist without black people. Basically, it focused on three things; some famous black people, places, and events which made bold African American history. In reality, the history of African American started from the Atlantic oceans which the African people at first came to Florida in 1500s by Hispanic to visit this new world. They searched for their dreams for a good life which never happen.

In this week’s chapter The Atlantic World which introduces the history from prehistory through 1566, there were two themes that stand out for me which are: The Big “C”s, Conquest, Commerce, Colonization, & Conversion and Race. The history resembles on the European expansion and the discovery of the Americas by Christopher Columbus. Christopher Columbus was the first person to discover the American continent. The New World was another name given to America. The American territory differed in social, economically and politically. America was divided by three societies: Aztecs, Mayan and Incan which belonged to urban societies. Colonization was a breakthrough for both continents. They adaptation was about to begin, there were new things that one continent had
Joint-stock company: Joint-stock companies are companies made up of shareholders, who all invest in this company and receives some of the profits and debts. Joint-stock companies opposed the strict, traditional European economic standards which revolved around just prices, where profiting was looked down upon, and reciprocity, in which trade was for mutual benefit. However, this created problems, where investors were more and more determined to acquire more shares, creating more tension between social classes, as the rich became richer and the poor became poorer.

Atlantis is known to most people as a legend or myth written by the Greek poet Plato, but is it possible that this lost continent really existed? Is it all legend or could there be some fact to it? Contrary to common belief there have been numerous geological and historical findings that actually give proof to the existence of this lost city. In the book Imagining Atlantis it tells us the story written by Plato. "According to ancient Egyptian temple records the Athenians fought an aggressive war against the rulers of Atlantis some nine thousand years earlier
A U.S. research team thought they found the location of the “City of Atlantis.” The last time Atlantis was originally “seen” was when it was believably
In John K. Thornton’s book, A Cultural History of the Atlantic World, 1250 – 1820, Thornton describes the exploration of the western world by powerful European nations. Early on in the text Thornton details the ways early European merchants and explorers discovered the routes across the Atlantic to what would eventually become the Americas. He then lays out the formation and expansion of the slave trade between Europe, Africa, and the Americas. Throughout all of this Thornton very effectively communicates and disproves any common mistakes or false presumptions readers may have. He continues to do this when he switches his focus from the discovery of the Atlantic world to the colonization of it. Thornton explains how the two major European powers in the Atlantic world at that time, England and Spain, “conquered” and colonized the new world. He especially focuses on the relationships between the native peoples and the incoming Europeans. He explores the ways both groups effected each other. He goes on to state that the way in which the social structure of the European colonies was determine in large measure by the social structure of the indigenous people at the time of European arrival. This serves as Thornton’s thesis of the text and he provides evidence to support his claim. He also mentions that most of the time the story of the Atlantic World is told from an exclusively European perspective. And while he does try to include all aspects in the narrative I’m not totally

Callum Roberts set himself the difficult task of cataloguing evidence that today’s oceans are depleted and struggling against overfishing and human influence, while still remaining optimistic about the future of the world’s oceans in his book The Unnatural History of the Sea. Roberts begins by painting a picture of the oceans as they may have been before human influence had drastically depleted species and changed ecosystems through fishing. From this point, he maps out centuries of development in fishing and shows how drastically changed and depleted the world’s oceans are today because of human exploitation. With the explanation of modern day fishery policy and a strong case against the practice of trawling, Roberts shows how humanity continues to exploit the ocean as if it were an endless resource. In spite of all this, the author, in the end, attempts to develop a positive outlook by explaining what can be done to stop the rapid decimation of fisheries, including reevaluation of fishery regulations and development of marine reserves.
The legendary Lost city of Atlantis was once real to man and was heard to be told a “myth” or a “story” to protect it but that was 10,000000 years ago. Atlantis was a real civilization, and the expert testimony, physical evidence, and scientific evidence prove this. Atlantis was a city filled with goods like gold, silver, and wildlife, a place where the demigods(half god, half mortal) lived. The legend of Atlantis is a story told by Plato a Greek philosopher. It is about a moral, spiritual people who lived in a highly advanced, Utopian civilization. But they became greedy, petty, and morally bankrupt, and the gods became angry because the people had lost their way and turned to immoral pursuits. As punishment, Plato, says Poseidon sent "one terrible night of fire and earthquakes" that caused Atlantis to sink into the sea. Plato said it existed around 10,000 years before him, and that it was passed down by poets. There are some pieces of proof that may prove how Atlantis sank and that its ruins sank under the depths of seas. The proof of its existence could be proved by the expert testimony, physical evidence, and scientific evidence.
Where was the city of Atlantis? Is it real or is it just a fantasy written by Plato (a greek philosopher)? There are many theories of where it was located. Some scientists thought they found it in the Mediterranean off the coast of spain or even under what is now the Atlantic Ocean. Many people think Atlantis was just a fantasy others thought it was based off of the tragic incident where the island of Santorini was ripped apart by a volcano. The story of Atlantis is one of Plato’s most famous stories that has been passed on for over 2,300 years. Plato’s writings about Atlantis are the only known records of its existence. According to the legend Poseidon founded this island. Poseidon and his wife lived in the very center of the island which
As far as I can recall my existing knowledge from kindergarten to high school, Columbus has always been described as a heroic figure who overcame countless obstacles fearlessly and finally found the “New World.” For a long time, there were numerous authors, poets, and painters praising Columbus’s legendary journey and his extraordinary contribution to mankind. However, after reading “The Discovery of the Bahamas,” the sailing logs written by Columbus, I figured that Columbus may not be such a man who is worthy of all the praises. There are two literary works related to the subjects. The painting, “Christopher Columbus at the royal court of Spain,” was created in 1884 by Václav Brožík, and depicts Columbus requesting, from Queen Isabella, King Ferdinand and groups of courtiers, funding for additional voyages. The poem, “Prayer of Columbus,” written by Walt Whitman in 1874, expresses Columbus’s praise of God for all his achievements, believing that God would still be on his side even though he had been through all the sufferings. While Brožík’s painting creates imagery, directly expressing Columbus’s ambition by his posture, and implied Spaniards’ eagerness of power and building empires with the reactions of Queen Isabella I and Ferdinand V and a gathering of courtiers, Whitman employs repetition and religious iconography to create a sharp contrast between Columbus’s fearless, unconquerable mind in his early life and his helplessness at the end of his last voyage.
