Leonardo da Vinci vs Thomas Edison
“I find out what the world needs. Then I go ahead and try to invent it.” -Thomas Edison(Thomas Edison Innovation Foundation). Thomas Edison is considered one of the smartest people ever to have lived. Leonardo da Vinci is considered one of the most creative. Which one is considered better? In my opinion, Thomas Edison is a better inventor than Leonardo da Vinci, and I’m going to try to prove it.
Leonardo da Vinci designed and attempted to create many inventions. This includes a flying machine, an armored vehicle, a diving suit, a machine gun, and a humanoid robot. He had wonderful ideas. However, they were ahead of his time. He did not have the technology to complete them. As a result, almost none of da

People never imagined his inventions, especially in his time. If the technology needed was created back then, his inventions would have worked.. He just could not do it. He accomplished few inventions in his lifetime. They did help us in the future, but his own people never saw his inventions being created. Even they doubted him. According to April Holloway (Ancient Origins) “One of da Vinci’s most famous inventions is the flying machine, although there were in fact many different models, mostly based on the flight of bats, kites, and birds. His designs reflect his powers of observation and imagination, as well as his keen desire to experience soaring like a bird”. However, like most of his inventions, his flying machine did not work. Edison, however, worked very hard. He achieved many great feats that no one else even dreamed about. He created many useful inventions. If he had not been so dedicated, our lives would not be the same today. Eventually some one else would have figured out his genius and find new ways to invent his creations, but we would be very behind on technology today. Quoting the official Thomas Edison website (Edison Innovation Foundation), “Thomas Edison’s Inventions have made profound impacts on society. So many of Thomas Edison’s inventions are held in such high regard that he is considered the greatest inventor of all
Leonardo da Vinci thought of and researched the ideas of airplanes, tanks, parachutes, etc. Thomas Edison made the lightbulb after many tried failures which eventually brought the whole world bright light after darkness. Also, Johannes Gutenberg created the printing press that greatly improved the quality and speed with which books were and are made. All of these men were believed to be
eonardo da Vinci was one of the most famous artist, inventor, and scientist etc of his time. His name is actually Da Vinci Leonardo. Which means “from vinci”, where he was born. Da Vinci was born on April 15 1452 in Vinci, Italy. He died on May 2, 1519 in Amboise, France. He invented flying machines, war machines, architect/innovations, and water and land machines. His flying inventions were the anemometer, the flying machine, the aerial screw (helicopter), and the parachute. Da Vinci is one of the most famous people of the Renaissance. He created many inventions and innovations that helped shape the future. To protect his ideas he created a code so that no one will be able to steal his work.
Have you ever wanted to design a machine that would go down in history? That was a dream that the true renaissance man Leonardo Da Vinci had, but why was he called the true Renaissance Man? The reasons he was called that was that Leonardo was very intelligent and very well trained about a wide variety of topics including painting, math and engineering. This lead to him having some of the greatest accomplishments that changed the world forever.
Moreover, Thomas Edison created the first industrial research laboratory. Not only was Edison a great innovator, but he also was a successful manufacturer and businessman.
Leonardo Da Vinci was a great artist, inventor, and scientist of the high Renaissance, during the 15th century , he affected the Renaissance throughout Italy intellectually through his inventions and ideas, also in the arts through his artistic talents. Intellectually Da Vinci was a great inventor, in Gale it states “Leonardo also worked on several inventions. He designed many mechanical devices, such as a screw jack, a two-wheeled hoist, an ‘armored car,’ a gun with three racks of barrels, and even a submarine”("Leonardo Da Vinci, 2"…) This shows all the inventions that Leonardo had designed, It is seen today that his inventions are still being used to some extent. Intellectually Da Vinci was also a scientist (There were many specific areas of the broad term of
Leonardo Da Vinci, An artist, inventor, renaissance man. Thomas Edison, inventor, world changer. These two men are some of history’s greatest inventors. However, a question stands, who was truly the greatest inventor? Who invented the most useful things, who changed history the most?
Leonardo Da Vinci’s idea of the helicopter was a human powered machine, one thing that Leonardo did not understand though is that much more energy than a human could make would be required to make a device fly. Leonardo Da Vinci knew that when you make something spin really fast it would create significant friction so Leonardo made a bearing to lower the
I have always thought that Thomas Edison was a brilliant man because for goodness sakes (!), he invented the 'basic' lightbulb. However, after reading the lecture notes, I discovered a list of many more things that he invented! An automated telegraph system, an office copying machine, a record player, motion pictures, and many more things were among his inventions! The fact that he was pulled out of school when he was very young, and how he still went on to create these inventions that change life as we know it, goes to show how capable he was and how God blessed him with his abilities!
Leonardo da Vinci was, and still is known all around the world. He was the perfect “The Renaissance Man.” Not only did Leonardo da Vinci excel in art, but he also mastered all other elements to be the ultimate Renaissance man. He was a great architect. He was a great musician.
Leonardo Da Vinci was a successful man in more areas than artwork. From the time he was a boy, he began studying the arts as well as the ideas of science, medicine, machinery, and much more. Da Vinci’s history is reflected in his paintings and inventions that have been able to change the world of then and now. Leonardo’s artistic vision led him down a prosperous path of life that has made him one of the most innovative individuals the world has seen. With the help of a lot of childhood exposure to the arts, along with the natural creativity born inside of him, Leonardo Da Vinci changed the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries through his work.
Leonardo was fascinated with the idea of flight. During his lifetime he produced many studies such as the codex on the flight of birds. He also designed many plans for several flying machines such as a flapping ornithopter and a machine with a helical rotor.
The work of Leonardo da Vinci is recognized by many. With paintings like The Last Supper, Vitruvian Man and of course the Mona Lisa it is hard to argue about his skill and overall influence on art and being one of the greatest painters. Leonardo did struggle with the fact that what he painted was not exactly what he saw. He wanted to best represent the image in his head or of nature and replicate this onto a canvas.
Hence, Leonardo Da Vinci was one of the most iconic innovators in sciences and arts, he could never stay consistent on finishing his projects and his artistic output lacked. Da Vinci did contribute to today's work of science and arts. If he would have completed or stayed consistent to his death he would have been one of the most iconic, influential, and successful innovators of all
Who would have thought that a rural boy would become one of the greatest minds of history? This boy was born during the Italian Renaissance, a time of great rebirth and renewed interest in cultural arts (Leonardo artist page 3). His name was Leonardo da Vinci, and he was born in April 15, 1452 (Leonardo artist page 9). Many would call Leonardo “a jack of all trades; master of none,” yet possibly he was a master of all (Leonardo artist page 4). He had achieved many talents and countless accomplishments (page 4). A genius at heart, Leonardo had many jobs and careers: “a painter, a sculptor, an inventor, an engineer, a writer, an architect, and… a scientist.” (Leonardo artist page 5) An excellent observer, he would often study his
Leonardo Da Vinci is my hero because he was a one of the greatest military engineers, Inventors, and architects during the Renaissance. Being As Military Engineer, Leonardo Da Vinci created the first machine gun, bombs, an armored car which is presently known as the tank. As An Inventor, he built the first helicopter, parachute, pulleys, and other mechanisms to understand motion and force. Leonardo Da Vinci was also an architect; when he designed the first dome on top of buildings, and created the first modern bridge in 1503. When Leonardo Da Vinci always wondered how birds flew, he would researched and dissected dead birds wings and learned about flying, then he designed pedal power wind which he called "the air screw".
