Leonardo Da Vinci: The Last Supper, Vitruvian Man

Satisfactory Essays

The work of Leonardo da Vinci is recognized by many. With paintings like The Last Supper, Vitruvian Man and of course the Mona Lisa it is hard to argue about his skill and overall influence on art and being one of the greatest painters. Leonardo did struggle with the fact that what he painted was not exactly what he saw. He wanted to best represent the image in his head or of nature and replicate this onto a canvas. This problem led him to experiment. He studied Alberti’s window, Euclidean geometry, and the philosophy of Alhazen and Aristotle. Based off their studies he began to document his findings regarding visual perspective, lighting, color and shadows. He explored the depth and perspective of shadow and the change and source of its color.
