The officer did have reasonable suspicion to make contact and after locating the weapons he had his probable cause. There are four situations that Probable Cause is used; involving arrests with a warrant, arrests without a warrant, searched of items with a warrant, and searches of items without a warrant (V., D. C., & Walker, J. T., 2015). Most of my encounters with individuals occurs on traffic stops; which require probable cause to stop them. My probable cause could be speeding, reckless driving or any traffic violation in the traffic law manual. Once probable cause is established then contact is made with the driver. If there is reason to believe that there is more than a traffic violation, such as an officer smelling marijuana inside the vehicle, then he or she can now have access into the vehicle. My probable cause to get into the vehicle is based on my training and experience that there was or is illegal narcotics inside the vehicle. If there is no probable cause to get into the vehicle and an officer feels there is more to the traffic stop than speeding, then the officer needs to build his reasonable suspicion to figure out what the driver is up to. For example, one night on patrol, it was believed that there was a possible drug transaction going on in the
The weapon was recovered from the passenger floor board. The rear passenger window of the vehicle appeared to have also been shot out.
A taxi driver was killed during a night robbery in Columbia, South Carolina. Out of this rather ordinary crime, it had been boxed up for nearly four decade until 1997, when the sheriff department created a cold case squad. In 1961, John Orner was shot three times in the head because the suspect tried to remove any money from Orner’s taxi. Following morning, the bloodstained taxi was found abandoned within the streets of Columbia. Through ballistics evidence found in John Orner’s head, police suspected that a person named Edward Freiburger was involved. From forensics examination of those three bullets indicated that the bullets were fired from a .32 caliber Harrington and Richardson (H&R) revolver. Police did manage to catch
The shooting occurred at the Fruitvale train station on January 1st, 2009. At the station, a fight broke out in one of the trains and when the train stopped the fight started again outside of the train at one of the stops. While they were fighting on the train the BART officers were called. The officers came and arrested everyone that was in the fight. A guy named Oscar Grant was in the fight and was also arrested (Meyer). While Grant was being arrested by Officer Mehserle, he resisted the officer’s attempts. Since Grant was resisting he was pushed onto the ground on his stomach to be handcuffed. Johannes Mehserle was having trouble handcuffing Grant so the other BART officers helped him. When Grant was on the ground Mehserle was going to tase him since he would not stop resisting. When Mehserle thought he pulled out his TASER, he instead pulled out his gun. Mehserle accidentally shot Grant with his gun since he thought he pulled out his TASER (Bulwa).

I wonder how the officer would have felt if suddenly, the gun had been turned on him.

The Laredo Police Department was created in February 9, 1850. Its original name was “City Marshal” but changed during the 20th Century. Before it was created, Laredo had its own Vigilance Committee of citizens. They were like a modern day police officer. Their purpose was to protect the law and tracked down marauders. Today this Vigilance Committee is now known as Laredo Crime Stoppers; a program where citizens get rewarded for providing valid information to the police.
The police system was created as a way to control the working class and black communities. Some form of order started in the South during the time of slavery. Slave patrols were made of poor whites and they were given the ability to punish slaves anyway they seem fit. Slave patrolling continued the racist ideas that allowed white people to oppress black people. Another form of a police system in the South were the Texas Rangers. Texas Rangers specifically targeted Native American, Latino and Black groups in the South.
