Learning How To Write In Schools

In chapter 9, Writing Across the Curriculum, the process of reading and writing was investigated and explained in comparison to one another. The reading-writing connection focuses on drawing from students’ prior knowledge and cognitive processes in order to build learning. The authors mentioned that the writing process is a strong tool for exploring and clarifying meaning and the two major instructional components used are writing to learn (WTL) and writing in disciplines (WID). The chapter also focused on the subareas of academic journals and writing disciplines.

I feel I have improved overall in all aspects of writing; specially in citing my work, introducing quotes, word diction, time management and grammar. Prior to taking this class I was not able to properly cite my work and continuously struggled on my works cited page. After not scoring too well on my novel essay works cited I took it upon myself and reached out for extra help. Through additional help and learning the material I am now able to properly cite my work. Another aspect of writing I felt I improved in this semester is, introducing quotes. Prior to taking this class I struggled to introduce quotes effectively. Throughout High school, I would typically state a quotation with very little introduction. I have improved tremendously and am now able to properly introduce quotes by giving a small explanation on what the quote is going to focus on, while also stating the presenters name. My word diction this semester has improved and has helped my writing significantly. While writing I am constantly looking up synonyms for words and attempting to enhance them. Better word diction improves your writing and makes you seem more knowledgeable

I am writing in regards of how my writing has improved this whole year. I entered this class with very small amount of knowledge in writing and grammar. I have learned a lot this year, though I feel like I could do more improvement.

While attending writing class, I learned about the 4 steps in writing, bases for revising, organizing, and connecting specific information, and I also learned about the different types of essays such as descriptive, narrative, process, cause and effect and argumentative essay. I have been a student at Milwaukee Area Technical College for 1 semester, and over the course of my enrollment I have grown and learned more that I knew prior to attending this writing course. Participating in this writing class has taught me so much more than stuff about literature and language, it has taught me another way of expressing myself. I have learned here how to write and express myself, how to think for myself, and how to find the answers to the things that I don 't know. Most importantly I have learned how important technique, outlines and organization are. My goal in this paper is to inform writers about how my writing skills have improved.

Grammer and Writing are a very important skill to have when it comes to language and communicating. It allows you an inside look at other peoples thoughts, emotions, and outlook on life. Knowing how to write gives the world around you the exact same experience with your thoughts and point of view.

Every day consists of writing, whether it is informal or formal. Writing comes in different forms including, emails, essays, text messages, and even note taking in class. I have gathered materials and assignments in my major to analyze what kind of writing is required and how it should be executed. What I discovered was surprising, but almost every piece of research revealed that writing is not incredibly important in my field of study.

I believe that cursive writing should be taght in public schools, but if public schools were to add it as a curriculum they should do so in elementry school. Elementry school is where I learned to write in cursive, ever since i learned how to thats how I have written everything. It always surprises me when I'm writing and someone looks over my shoulder and tell me they cant read what is on my paper.

When I went back and re-read my essay I still thought it was well written but I realized how many thing I could have added. During the course of this year, I believe that my writing has significantly improved, especially my grammar and vocabulary in my writing. Some of my weaknesses as a writer are conveying the message the prompt asks about in the whole essay because sometimes my essays tend t go a bit off topic along the

Writing is one of the most important skills that I have learned throughout my years in school. I have learned that no matter how much I love or hate it, writing is a necessity; I might as well try to be good at it. Writing has been in my life for many years. There are many types of writing, educational writing and personal writing are two that I will mention in this essay. I have learned how to allow writing to help me in my daily life. When I began writing I hated it, however, I have learned the many uses of it, and it has become a huge part of my life.

I feel my writing has improved due to the help of the writing process and all the writing assignments I experienced. I was able utilized each of these components this semester. I wrote various journals and two essays, which were very challenging to me. The first essay I was asked to write, was a Narrative essay about an experience in which later I questioned my actions. At first, I was very nervous due to I have never written an essay before. I did not even know where to begin.

Writing is a skill that many authors use to show their style or qualities. Writing is such a great experience and it allows you to tell stories, or speak your opinions. It gives you opportunities to speak up and show your worth. There is two important steps for writing, one is to always think positive, and two is always believe in what you have to say. Many people struggle with writing at times and that's because they haven't thought out their ideas all the way or showed their full potential yet. It takes time to become a good writer.

Many times, you could even nominate yourself at a higher ranking in the social pyramid if you knew how to write in comparison to a person that did not know how to. Now a days, it's not as simple as that. With a big growth on teaching young teens to write it has created a lot more competition within our society. It is not just good enough that you can write, now is more about how well you write.

I am sure that I have improved a lot my writing and reading skills. However, I still have to exceed on how to organize my thoughts and making better word choice. With that in mind, I'll always be looking for new ways, such as reading, that will make me a better writer. However, I'm glad to say that from the beginning of the year until now I outdid myself with significant progress.

Do you think students should be taught cursive writing in schools? I think we should keep cursive writing in school while we can and learn the basics, our signatures, and a simple formal letter. Cursive writing in slowly but surly fading away and here is why...

To begin with, one of the biggest dilemmas today is about abortion and whether or not women should have one, rates have been getting lower throughout the years due to the help of birth control. Since the year of 1975 to now “the number of abortions in the United States dropped under one million (958,700 in 2013 and 926,200 in 2014” (Jones, Jerman). It is still continuing to decrease now, from the age between 15-44 the Guttmacher Institute recorded “the lowest rate ever” (Guttmacher Institute) which is a “14% decline from 2011” (Guttmacher Institute). People think birth control has to do with these drops since it is one of the biggest factors to prevent it from happening in the first place. There are laws that are trying to prohibit abortion yet abortion is not even a problem since it just keeps getting lower and lower throughout the years “the US has reached a lower level in 2014 than in any other since the procedure first became legal” (Redden). Most of the women to get these abortions however are around their 20s “aged 20-24 obtained 34% of all abortions” (Guttmacher Institute). As a lot of people may know the republican party is not a fan of birth control so if they were to find out that it had been one of the main factors they would go on a rampage but there is no way of telling what they are due too, it is possible for it to be due to the drives or birth control depending on the person of course.
