Leadership Hot Springs offers so many opportunities and experiences for youth in our area and I feel there is so much for me to gain and benefit from being a part of this program. For me, being a part of Leadership Hot Springs excites me not only for the opportunities it will bring me but what I will hopefully be able to bring to the program and to our community as well. Being able to become a part of this program would be such an honor to me, i've heard and seen many great things that students in Leadership Hot Springs have done for our community and what the program has done for them. Were I given the opportunity to become a member of the program I feel I could put the leadership skills I have to a good use in helping our community
I would like to join NYC Ladders for Leaders because it is a wonderful opportunity to gain valuable experience in the professional world. The pre-employment training which helps with resumes, cover letters and interviewing would be extremely helpful when I apply for positions in the future. Needless to say the summer internship will give me a lot of exposure to professional networks, working environments and insights into the industries. If I were to be selected for the program, I hope that in the end I would be able to better pinpoint my interests to help me decide on a career choice. Also I am hoping that the program will help me learn to better express myself in a working environment and build leadership characteristics that are essential
Why do you want to serve in a leadership role for the WF Arizona Volunteer Chapter?
Adults and peers have described me as dependable, fair, honest, trustworthy, intelligent, empathetic, respectful, and friendly and I do my best to live by these characteristics. One of my main mottos is to treat others the way you want to be treated. I am by no means a perfect person and I try to accept help and criticism whenever it is offered in an effort to keep improving upon my character. I am a reliable student, sister, daughter, and friend. I believe I would learn a lot from being a member of this program because being surrounded by peers with similar moral and academic character would allow me to do even more to make my community a better place. This would be a perfect opportunity to benefit from any experiences this program has to offer me and make a positive impact on my school and
As a result of this I have been invited to go to Washington D.C. for the Junior National Young Leaders Conference two years in a row, but sadly I haven’t been able to attend. In PBL we get a lot of leadership opportunities in projects. I have been voted leader in almost every group/team project I’ve been apart of. As a leader, I enjoy listening to everyone’s ideas and opinions to come up with the best decision for the situation. I believe that being apart of NJHS will help develop my leadership skills and help me become better at finding the ride path to take while working with a team. I also babysit for a few families. Being a babysitter requires a lot of patience, which ties into me being a strong leader. While playing basketball you take on a roll as either a leader or team player. I think that I can take on either role as I have learned how to inspire my teammates while also taking a step back and learning how to do so from others. I think that learning to be a “follower” before a leader is essential to figure out how you want to lead others. I’ve also helped out with the “Little Dribblers” at the Zone, keeping score and helped with practices, because I love working with
I want to be a JYC leader this year because I have seen how great of an experience it is through my friends. The past couple years, I’ve heard hours of stories about how fun it is to be with all the kids and how close the leaders all get. In addition to this, last summer I had the opportunity to be a counselor at i4-H camp. I quickly grew to love all the kids I got the opportunity to interact with and i4-H became one of my favorite camps. It’s a very special experience to spend time with and teach youth; I hope to get that opportunity again through JYC. I also want to be a JYC counselor to better my leadership skills. I aspire to someday work in 4-H, but besides that, I’ll need good leadership skills for all aspects of my life. JYC is a good
By having these different types of leadership experiences, I feel I can bring a new perspective to the diverse activities we will be completing over the
When I began this course I was very nervous because I had no idea of the scope of the course. I was unfamiliar with the Canadian education system and other students. After receiving instructions from my professor, I introduced myself to the person beside me and this process helped to break the ice. I developed a good friendship with the student and this technique used by the professor helped me develop better communication and relationship skills. After few classes, I felt very comfortable and the nervousness and anxiety faded away. I learned about leadership, power relationships in the profession, personal, cultural, professional and organizational, each of which is very important in the nurse’s career. I also gained knowledge regarding client centred care.
Throughout my high school career I have been a part of a wide variety of programs in which my leadership characteristics have been used and expanded. One program I have thoroughly enjoyed is the Jacksonville’s Mayor’s Young Leaders Advisory Council. From being on this council for two years, I have grown more than I imagined I would. I have been the chair for two committees, made business connections, gained experience in law, and been made open to other viewpoints. I have also lead in a more personal setting, as I was a preschool teacher at my church and have been a leader of community groups. What I have taken from being a leader is that it continually challenges you. Even if you may be an expert in your field, you will always find there is something new to experience and learn for yourself. To be a part of Florida Southern’s Honors Program would mean that I would not only get a one-of-a-kind experience in academics, but I would be shaped and well-rounded in leadership so I could excel in my
1. What is your main reason for applying to be a leader? In all honesty, the main reason why I would like to be a leader this year is because I love helping people. This past year, they needed any type of assistance, and I love that I was able to encourage them to do their best.
I would like to be in the Peer Leadership program because I want to obtain the skills necessary to be an effective leader. This summer I will be a counselor in training at Fairview Lake, so I believe that this Peer Leadership Program will fulfill and help finish my goal to strive to be a good leader and role model. In addition, I want to be one of the Peer Leaders who will serve to be a positive influence on students all around Summit. If I am a peer leader, knowing that kids will want to look up to me will help improve my impulse control. I tend to do things without thinking and I am continuing to improve this. One of the three qualities that make me a good role model is I care unconditionally for people because I along many others can relate to those who
By attending summer workshops I plan to take all of the things I’ve learned there back to my council. Sharing my knowledge and skills will not only make our council stronger, but it will also make our school a place where leadership is expected and accepted. Building the community around me will encourage others to help, volunteer, and stay inspired.
I am willing to contribute more in MPSA by being a coordinator. Next, by being a leader of Be the Match team of MPSO and being a president of an undergraduate student organization for four years, I am looking forward to more leadership opportunities to continue to
“It is unequivocally clear that leaders are not like other people” (Kirkpatrick and Locke, 1991, as cited in Northouse, P. G., 2016, p.22). I have always thought that I was not like other people; I see the world through a different lens. This difference, which sets me apart from my peers, has sometimes restrained my progress; however, after studying my differences and seeing them as strengths, I can now focus on these strengths that make me a unique, passionate, progressive leader. In reflecting on my leadership skills, I will analyze the results of the leadership questionnaires, as presented in Peter Northouse’s book, Leadership:Theory and practice (7th ed.), connect those result strengths with the
Due to my passive nature, I’ve always avoided leadership roles. With that being said I still aspire to be someone who can be looked to as a leader. In order to reach that goal I observe and try to mimic the actions of people that inspire me. There have been many people I’ve taken orders from, but I have “followed” few. Those are the ones I consider to be true leaders, and have tried to be like myself.
As an educational leader, I have encountered several new and existing school policies. I never thought deeply about the various processes and the stakeholders involved in policy formulation and implementation. This semester I am engaged in the course Managing Educational Policy as School Leaders (EDLM 6005). This is Semester III, 2016/2017. My course coordinator is Dr. Timar Stephenson. Dr Stephenson was my course coordinator once before and was very helpful whenever I needed clarification or when I had a difficulty. I am thrilled to embrace the new ideas and learning opportunities embedded in this course since it teaches issues which I experience at work. Dr Stephenson, during his introduction reminded his entire class that success in this course would only be realized through hard work, dedication, and commitment. Therefore, it is imperative that I have the right attitude as I navigate this course. The course involves seven weeks of intense work. I am pleased to have a wonderful group facilitator by the name of Rhonda Joseph who has already given us a BBC to explain the requirements of the course and our first two modules.
