Social work professions need to understand the importance of how individuals interact both with other people and their environment, to have an understanding how individuals are affected by these interactions (Rogers, p. 2). According to Rogers (2016), “Social workers are knowledgeable about human behavior across the life course; the range of social systems in which people live; and the ways social systems promote or deter people in maintaining or achieving health and well-being. Social workers apply theories and knowledge from the liberal arts to understand biological, social, cultural, psychological, and spiritual development (p. 2). Their work with clients begins with assessments to evaluations of intervention and is based in and supports of the core value system of the profession.

Social services within the outpatient and inpatient programs are facilitated by the social workers. The social workers host group therapy sessions, complete treatment plan, facilitates the aftercare planning meetings between the patient and their family members or friend, locate housing centers for homeless patients as well as those that are in unsafe living conditions, determine patient eligibility for program services, conduct biopsychosocial assessments, conduct CDC with patients, evaluate patients support systems, physical and emotional functioning of the patient’s, financial stability, safety, suicidal/homicidal ideation, implement treatment and discharge plans that coincide with the patient’s medical treatment, and offer referrals to residential housing and community resources.

I am currently completing my final internship for the School of Social Work at Stephen F. Austin State University at Burke Center, a mental health agency located in Nacogdoches, Texas. (myburke.org, 2017) states that “Burke’s mission is to provide the highest-quality and most compassionate and comprehensive mental health and developmental disability services to every client in East Texas that needs them.” The agency is well known in the area for providing superior mental health services covering a twelve county radius in East Texas. Many individuals at some point during their lives require mental health services in order to enjoy life. Clinical social workers constitute the biggest group of mental health care workers who provide the majority of therapy and counseling services. For instance, professionals aid individuals to ascertain solutions to issues that fall along a continuum from the lack of independent living skills and capacity to cope with quotidian to severe depression and mental illness. With a master 's level education in social work, I see myself envisioning clients’ health and well-being. As a student, I will study and practice techniques, beyond a generalist perspective, that will allow me to give clients hope and the ability to see something greater than what they are facing. Upon completion of a Master of Social Work direct practice degree and certificates in gerontology and mental health programs, I intend to become a licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I will competently incorporate specialized skills in different professional settings while developing my knowledge of a wide range of social issues and professional standards. With commitment, I wish to develop skills that will enable me to create or find hidden resources and services for my future clients, create platforms through counselling for victims of trauma.
