The corridors on the upper floor have maintained the original fabrics of the house although the majority of them have been altered. The ceiling boards have been changed on the upper floors with acoustical tiles which are suspended. The canopy on the hill street of the building was removed and this made the configuration of the building to change especially on the first floor of the building. Things have changed over time in the building but the design, materials of the building, setting and its location have remained intact although there have been several changes in the building.
The significance of the building
The period of significance of the building ranges from the time it was set up in 1929 to 1960s. From that period, business seized

It was branded as one of the best buildings in terms of hosting office facilities in Los Angeles. The building at that time was also branded one of the most successful retail clothing stores in LA because it had a lot of cloth line stores. According to Tan, the building served as foreman and Clark headquarters although they had a lot of business operations elsewhere in that town. The advertising, buying offices, and departments which dealt with display were located on south hill street in that town. The boom in business activities in this location of Los Angeles started in the 1960s but it ceased to operate in 1999 after several years of business practices in men’s cloth lines. The people who created the original design of the building had a good reputation which made them the correct people to choose for the building (Tan). They were known for their good architectural designs back in the 1920s whereby they gained momentum of doing business and structuring several buildings in Los Angeles and other towns too. The Curlett and Beelman architects had formulated a firm which dealt with various designs of buildings since 1919 to 1932. Foreman and Clark's building was one of the masterpieces of their work because it had an art
The Eshelman Building was built in 1872 in Clarence New York. It is currently located in its same position as 150 years ago where what is currently called the four corners. The builders of this piece of history are John and Jacob Eshelman and after that point their nephew, Andrew Eshelman took over. The building is 3 stories and each one had its own purpose. The first floor was the store and they sold clothing to hardware. The second floor was a 3,000 square floor apartment, or bed and breakfast where some political figures stayed during elections. There was an interior fire in the 1900s but luckily the beautiful exterior stayed intact for all of us to see today. The third floor was used as a stage for theater and entertainment and was
While much of the building’s exterior is original, there are some changes that have occurred both inside and outside of over time. The door for the front entrance
such as art and design, which drive historical change. This is evident through the structure’s various changes, which include Colonial, Georgian, and Victorian styled architecture and interior decorative designs.
(By the way, a "micropolitan" area is one where there is a core city of at least 10,000 people, but fewer than 50,000. So if you live a mile outside a town of 12,000 folks, you live in a micropolitan area.)
While on a trip to Los Angeles, there are extensive amount of places to see and explore. However, the first thing you need to take into consideration is transportation. The Union Trust Company had two buildings that provided office space for the business and professional men of Detroit, they were; the Buhl Building and the Penobscot Building. Which still stand today and are a part of the city’s skyline. The Union Trust Company wanted another building to be the headquarters for their company and provide a public image with warm and colorful architecture. The headquarters would be called the Union Trust Building. The architecture firm on all three of these buildings was Smith, Hinchman and Grylls who assigned their head
This building was re-built four times because of the importance of this building. It was burned down three times in Jamestown and once in Williamsburg. It was where all the laws are made and all decisions are put into action. Many historical events happened in the Capitol, like Patrick Henry’s Caesar-Brutus speech and the decision to go to war against Great Britian. I know this building really represents the importance during colonial times, relevance to citizens today and the motto “That the future may learn from the past”. You should mint a commemorative coin for Capitol Building, because the capitol was the start of the United States of
The design decisions were made mostly based on the condition of the existing features, and follows the existing architecture as much as possible. They repainted the walls of the main concourse to their original colors green and beige, the marble plaster columns were cleaned and sealed with a new coat of varnish. The marble mosaic floor in the dining area was mostly original, and the ornate interior was recreated with stenciling and gilding. A majority of the original fixtures and furnishing were destroyed, only a few of the originals were usable. Hence, the architects decided to find and use “whatever was available from the manufacturers…whatever was not available was custom-made to the architects’ specifications” [6].
Steiner Street in San Francisco is a famous tourist destination known for its colorful buildings designed in the Victorian style. Although the wonderful and colorful Victorian houses are located in several areas of San Francisco (in the Western and Southern parts of the city), the most famous place, where they settled in a row, is the Steiner St. It is from this location, the restoration process of these houses with a fancy name "Painted ladies" began.
In the summer of 1936 Herbert Johnson was ready to build a new administration building. He had commissioned a prominent local Architect and was nearly ready to start construction. However, both Johnson and his general manager Jack Ramsey were not satisfied with Architect J. Manor Matson’s proposed Beaux Arts style proposal. Although dissatisfied with the proposed building, neither Johnson or any of his team could come up with suggestions on how to improve the design. At this point Johnson decided to search for a new Architect. He wanted a “beautiful, pure, and completely American image for his company” (1), but even more importantly, he wanted “a place where his employees would be happy to work” (1). It was this decision that not only brought the S.C. Johnson & Son company into the 20th century, but also brought about a second renaissance in the career of Frank Lloyd Wright.
Today technology allows us to construct structures that we would never have been able to make in the past. Some of the creations are impressive based on what they accomplish but others are masterpieces in themselves. Man’s capability to build such tall buildings, as the skyscrapers we are familiar with covering our cities today, is a major expression of the advancements we have made as a culture. The power necessary to build such tall structures inspired competition between architects to see who could build the tallest one. One skyscraper that has inspired many and served as a model, for high rise buildings that were created after, is the Chrysler Building. The Chrysler Building serves as an identifying mark to anyone that
According to Dictionary.com, “gentrification is the process of renovating houses and stores in urban neighborhoods to fit the middle or upper-income families, raising property value, but often displacing low-income families.” Gentrification has been an idea since the 1960s and had an effect on countless cities and neighborhood communities. Gentrification was first used by Ruth Glass in her book London: Aspect of Change in 1964, she noted that ¨gentrification can progress rapidly until all or most of the original working-class occupiers are displaced, and the whole social character of the district is changed.” Nonetheless, gentrification has helped revive many cities and revolutionize them, especially with technological
The building was original all the way to the wall color and chandeliers. After that had to meet back at hostel to have a meeting with Dr. O’Neil and Dr. Martin to say goodbyes.
Built between 1883 and 1885 and owned by a consortium of 10 wealthy families, the Chelsea was New York's first co-op apartment complex. The tallest buidling in New York during its' day, it became a hotel in 1905, a designated NYC landmark since March 15, 1966, on the National Register of Historic Places since December 27, 1977 and though the years has been a hip, nurturing environment, closely associated with the bohemian types and the counter-culture. The Chelsea, who defines creativity and a freedom of our culture, has been home to a myriad of residents...some of the 20th century's most brilliant rising stars, from starving musicians, writers, and actors, to artists.
Finally, many tools were used to document our site visits that would used during the modeling of the buildings. As stated before, PlanGrid was very useful when viewing the construction sheets. PlanGrid was used on an iPad for easy access during the site visit. The iPad, as well as our phones, was used to take pictures of any notable changes or major features of the buildings. The pictures were used as references during the modeling portion of the project. A measuring tape was also used to take the dimensions of sections of the buildings that were not clearly labeled on the construction sheets. For example, the Architecture Annex’s terrance needed a measuring tape to measure its dimensions because the top-down view was absent from the
