The review of the current network used at Kudler Fine Foods was determine to be a bus topology as the network topology that is being used. The bus network is set-up in such a way that all the network components are connected via CAT5 to the bus or communication line. This configuration is true at sites in the corporation for their workstations, servers, and stand-alone UPS. A 56k modem is the device that is used by all of the networks communicating to the internet.
Hardware and Software The current hardware and software components will need to be upgraded at the three locations for this new network. For starters, each location will need to have a Network Interface Card (NIC) implemented. This will allow the workstations or any other

Most business networks today use switches to connect computers, printers and servers within a building or campus. A switch serves as a controller, enabling networked devices to talk to each other efficiently. Routers, on the other hand, are a much more sophisticated piece of technology. They are small like a switch and look like modems in which multiple nodes can be connected. Today’s routers are actually designed for the purpose of connecting multiple ‘area networks’ (both local and wide). In terms of the internet, routers actually serve as a temporary destination for network traffic. Routers are capable of transmitting and receiving data packets but will actually ‘read’ the packet to get its IP address for determining the packet’s destination. Unlike the switch, routers are capable of joining the multiple networks together; in the case of Kudler Fine Foods, their three store locations. “Cable is the medium through which information usually moves from one network device to another. There are several types of cable which are commonly used with LANs. In some cases, a network will utilize only one type of cable, other networks will use a variety of cable types. The type of cable chosen for a network is related to the network's topology, protocol, and size.” (FCITC, 1997) There are four basic types of cable: Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP), Shielded Twisted Pair (STP), Coaxial Cable, and Fiber Optic Cable. Unshielded twisted pair can range from basic telephone-grade wiring to high-speed cabling. This cable consist of four pairs of wires inside the outer covering each pair twisted with a different number of twists per inch to reduce/eliminate interference from adjacent pair or other devices. The tighter the twisting the higher data rates it supports but it also will increase the cost of the cable. Shielded twisted pair cables are actually shielded from radio and electrical frequencies and
Upon reviewing Kudler Fine Food network, it has been determined that a major network overhaul will need to be conducted to make sure that Kudler is brought up to speed with the latest technology. This is very important because if Kudler is unable to keep up with the technological advances then the company will fall behind. Making sure that Kudler is not only able to keep up with the advances with network systems it is also important to install the proper systems so that no money is wasted. What is meant by this is that if the improper systems and storage units are installed to only handle data over the next year this is
Currently all the sites are still running 56K modems, this technology is outdated. This is technology is hindering the communication speed between each site. Having a high-speed connection is crucial to provide real time updates. These updates provide the profits made each day and the inventory sold so that those items can be restocked in real-time. These modems will be used as redundant system and a new Wide Area Network (WAN) will be created, each site will be setup with a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN). The WAN will connect all the WLANs together. This will boost the network speed of the WAN and improve the way employees communicate. The network will be able to support a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) for telephone
Routers and switches will be utilized to route network signals to all areas of this large network. Telephony systems will be introduced to serve the VOIP located at each location to assist with communication needs. Wireless technologies will also be needed to assist with mobility and other devices such as printers, laptops, fax machines, etc. Lastly, a physical firewall will be enforced at each location to protect the network from internal and external intruders.
Each location has its own local network thus it is distributed across the company, however this has its pros and cons that can affect the company. With the implementation of a WAN as defined in Telecommunications Essentials “A wide area network (WAN) is a group of computer networks connected over long distances by telecommunications links, which can be either wireline or wireless.” (Goleniewski & Jarrett, 2007, p. 201) The benefits that a WAN will bring to Kudler Fine Foods is a centralized management of all systems and an ease of use communication from store to store. As stated earlier along with the WAN, each location will also be implementing a WLAN. This shall improve network coverage and give each location the ability to place computer systems or POS machines in locations that may have not been possible before due to the lack of a hardline or ability to install a new line. Wireless technology has greatly improved over the years and has transitioned from an additional layer that may not be needed or only added if there was room in the budget to a
A Router is a Layer 3 or Network layer device that connects a network to another network. It connects networks with the same protocol such as RIP (Routing Information Protocol) and IP (Internet Protocol).
The proposed network is designed to serve DesignIT which consist 56’x36’ office space, 4 cubicles, 1 office, 1 server room, 1 receptionist desk and 1 conference room.
Router is a device for networking that sends packets of data between the networks of a computer. The packet of data is forwarded to routers of the networks that contain the internetwork until the packet is at the destination node. A router can be linked to several data lines from various systems. The router reads the address information in the packet to establish the ultimate destination when the data packet is in any data lines (Liu, 2012).
The Kudler Fine Foods is one the best stores around. They have come a long way in such a short period of time. They, however have out grown their old network infrastructure and they are in in dire need of an enterprise wide upgrade to their stores as they will start to lose money if this does not happen very soon.. The strategic goals of the enterprise network are to introduce new technologies in data collection, company communication, and information protection while providing the best data speeds and network access and use friendly access. This is very important because if this is done correctly, this will increase revenue
Now that the Network design stage is complete, the team must now determine the hardware and software needed to bring the network design to life. As discussed the backbone of Kudler’s Fine Foods network will be a routed network with LANs and a WAN. IN this case the LAN or Local Area Network will be everything Kudler Fine foods have on the internal side of its routers and firewalls. The WAN or Wide Area Network will be everything in between the LANs at each one of the Kudler Fine Foods locations.
The first recommendation is for Dirt Bikes’ to introduce a local area network to allow all the computers to communicate with one
DesignIT is a graphic arts company that is expanding business and has recently purchased a new building 56’*36’ space for the purpose of housing two full time designers and a receptionist. The new building has four cubicles, one office, one server room, one reception desk, and a conference room. DesignIT has already relocated one Web Server (Microsoft IIS Server), one File Server (Microsoft Server 2008), and one more Server 2008 (Small Business Server). As a network design consultant, I have been charged with the task of designing and configuring the network for DesignIT. The small company has informed me that the network should
All these PCs and Server need to interconnect to via Routers and Switches. We recommend Cisco 800 series routers and Cisco 2960 48X 7 Switches need to completely implement the system.

The company LAN is designed in what is known as a bus topology. Karl Falls describes a Bus topology as such: “A Bus topology refers to a single cable that connects all the workstations, servers, printers and other devices on the network. The cable runs from device to device by using tee connectors that plug into the network adapter cards. Each end device has a terminator on one end of the tee and a cable going out to the next device on the other end, while all devices in the middle have one cable coming in and one going out. The terminators on each end device simply stop the network signal from reflecting back into the cable and colliding with other transmissions.” The most
All of the ways I plan to market the “T.G.C Network” will be strictly online. The main market strategy technique the I will use to market T.G.C Network is by blog marketing. Using blogs strictly geared toward the fashion and model industry, I will post about T.G.C Network and all it has to offer, as well as updates, and news. That way I am reaching only those that are interested in the modeling industry. I will also use Pinterest and YouTube to market T.G.C Network because models use these two medias to remain updated on the things happening within the industry, as well as, some of them even post things themselves dealing with the industry. We will send email campaigns to models with popular portfolios, that are signed up to the free version of T.G.C Network, in order to get them to subscribe to VIP subscription. Lastly, there will be online ads, and not only on T.G.C Agency’s website, but I will also have them placed on a few websites of photographers, stylists, hair stylists and make-up artists who work with professional models, and have their own website. As usual with anything in life, word of mouth will naturally happen. I believe that sticking those marketing strategy techniques mentioned, is the best way to stay focused on reaching my target market, and anyone willing to look into booking them as well.
