They also fight against the black labor and rebuild black opposition. During the meeting at Maxwell’s House in Nashville, Confederate soldier General Nathan Bedford Forrest was chosen as a leader or grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan group and other generals served as second hand executive. In 1869, the Ku Klux Klan threatened black people and reversed the elected Republican governments in the South. In 1870 and 1871, Congress passed authority and Ku Klux Klan acts to attack black’s rights on violence. Ku Klux Klan focused on oppressing and capturing as well and torturing and mocked black african Americans when blacks were free. They opposed anyone who supported blacks and the federal government because they supported their rights. As time goes by, KKK turned into enemies of the …show more content…
Members of the Ku Klux Klan wore traditional white hoods and robes known as a “glory suit” with masks and a hat to hide their identities. There are reasons why the Ku Klux Klan attacked Black/African Americans. The Ku Klux Klan still continues its violence and hatred all over the United States sharing persuasion of words and its beliefs to all Americans and ask everyone to join for the good of their country. The Black Americans was free slaved, that had the same rights as the white people, because of that the White Americans became aggravated and formed lots of groups to support their values and beliefs to let people with the same agreements join to support KKK. The purpose was to provide the people of the South with the leadership to get the values of Western Civilization back that was in use from them. The Ku Klux Klan might have been released, because some people were confused when they join the group but never knew how to join further today, some White Americans are still discriminating against Black Americans. Black people just wants peace. As for the Ku Klux Klan violence, they should understand that hurting black people was a crime under the law. People who committed crimes were prosecuted as they are back then and now. The Ku Klux Klan still exists today all over the world but not a
The Ku Klux Klan, known as the KKK, has been one of the most feared groups in America since the end of the civil war during post-war reconstruction.. The civil war was not just about the rights of the black man, but it was a very important part. People in the north mostly believed the black person was due the same liberties insured by the U.S. Constitution. The 14th Amendment of the constitution gave equal protection to former slaves. However people in the south saw the black man as inferior and a slave needed to work on the plantation. This led to continued unrest after the war. Some felt the black man and those that supported his cause needed to be stopped. They wanted to control the black population. The Klan also would torture white people who were sympathetic to the blacks and their situation.
The Ku Klux Klan was founded in 1865 and was made to resist the Reconstruction of the Civil War. They believed whites were racially superior to blacks and held this belief fiercely. Raiding African American homes, lynching innocents, and burning down African American farms. With rises and falls of members, the Ku Klux Klan always was apart of US history after the Civil War. They
The Ku Klux Klan flourished in the South at the beginning of the Reconstruction succeeding the Civil War. There remained numerous ex-Confederates that were still strongly opposed to the Reconstruction and sought to preserve white supremacy in the South. Directly after the Civil War the government in the South was weak and vulnerable. The Ku Klux Klan leveraged this and used violence and threats to try to reestablish white supremacy. They were most successful in playing upon fears and superstitions. They not only brought terror to the black communities but they also targeted carpetbaggers and scalawags. They used these threats and fears in effectively keeping the blacks away from the polls so that the ex-Confederates could gain back political control in the
The first era Ku Klux Klan was formed in Tennessee on December 1865 at the end of the civil war. The Ku Klux Klan was formed as a movement for white supremacy. It was formed as a violent group that relied on fear tactics to stay in power. As Jonathan M. Bryant said in an article “The Klan 's organized terrorism began most notably on March 31, 1868, when Republican organizer George Ashburn was murdered in Columbus, Georgia.” George W. Ashburn (1814 - March 30, 1868) was a Georgia politician assassinated by the Ku Klux Klan in Columbus, Georgia for his pro-African-American sentiments. He was the first murder victim of the Klan in Georgia. This the first of the Klan’s organized terrorism it was soon followed by more.
The Ku Klux Klan was a secret terrorist organization that was created by six well educated Confederate veterans in Pulaski, Tennessee in the December of 1865. Their main objective was to restore white supremacy through acts of violence such as murder, against both Black and White Republicans. The KKK had eventually spread to every southern state, and Klansmen would often terrorize republicans regardless of their race. Members of the KKK believed that African Americans were inferior to Whites and did not believe that Blacks deserved equal rights. Although the rebel groups were outlawed and made illegal, many of them remained in existence and appeared after the reconstruction had ended. This proved the Reconstruction to be ineffective as many Southerners were still fighting against the government and opposed them. In addition, African Americans were still deprived of their rights by these
Forever. 170). The Klan were white southerners who were organized and committed to the breaking down of Reconstruction. By methods of brutality, “the Klan during Reconstruction offers the most extensive example of homegrown terrorism in American history” (Foner. Forever. 171). The Ku Klux Klan as well as other groups killed or tormented black politicians or threatened the blacks who voted in elections. The Klan strongly disagreed with the northern idea that slaves should become part of the government. The Historian Kenneth M. Stampp states, “for their [the North] supreme offense was not corruption but attempting to organize the Negroes for political action” (Stampp. Era. 159). This corresponds with Foner’s idea that the South was not open to the idea of change but more so consumed with the idea of recreating a society similar to one of the past. However, the goal of white power groups was not just politics. The Klan wanted to restore the hierarchy once controlling the South. Foner observes that, “the organization took on the function of the antebellum slave patrols: making sure that blacks did not violate the rules and etiquette of white supremacy” (Foner. Forever. 172). Like the power the southern whites formerly held over the slave population, the Ku Klux Klan wanted to control the African American population still living in the South. They did not want the freedmen to become integrated into their society because they saw them as lesser people. By suppressing and
The Klan usually wears masks, white sheets, and cardboard hats. This is seen as one of America's first genuine terrorist group, having a commitment to reach its ideal achievements through acts of uttermost torture and violence. The KKK or The Klan, is a white bigot group and evolution with the goal of racial discrimination. The KKK determined to make sure anyone who was characterized as a foreigner was resented, killed and torched. Numerous of African Americans, whites who were affectionate towards them, as well as many immigrants of all and any countries. This Klan appearance began after the Civil War and as kept its main target on violence and

The Ku Klux Klan or KKK was founded in 1886 but by 1870 had spread to every southern state, its primary goal was to reestablish white supremacy, they did this through an underground campaign of intimidation and violence directed at white and black republican leaders, despite the lawlessness of its actions the KKK had almost unrestricted support from whites across the south.Jim Crow laws did not help this matter, Jim Crow laws were laws that mandated segregation in all public places. The conditions for African Americans were constantly inferior and underfunded compared to those of the whites Americans. In the pivotal 1896 Plessy VS Ferguson case the supreme court ruled that ‘Separate but Equal’ was constitutional however the facilities were never equal. In 1900 about 90% of blacks in America lived in the Southern States, where segregation was very strong. The Civil Rights movement of the 1960’s saw a rise in KKK activity, bombing black schools and churches, and violence against black and white activists. The treatment of blacks around America was another significant cause of the Birmingham movement, if blacks hadn’t faced such systematic and brutal discrimination then such direct action may not have been
Life for African Americans in the United States has never been easy. First they were enslaved and later became free. Lastly they just needed the same rights as everyone else. The Klu Klux Klan wasn’t going to let that happen. The Klan wanted to stop all political and economical equality for African Americans. They were violent and terrorized all African Americans and anyone who tried to help them acquire equality. The Klu Klux Klan is a harsh and is extremely racist. They had a part in economic and social problems in the United States in the late 1860s (History.com Staff).
The Ku Klux Klan was a racial hate group in the south that made sure blacks did not get any civil rights. Members in the Ku Klux Klan believed whites were superior to other races. The KKK hated the blacks because they believed slaves, who were the blacks, are to be less than human. Only white Anglo-Saxon Protestants or known as “WASPS” could become members. The members also had to pay monthly fees so they could “adopt a highway” to look good in the eyes of the communities.
On December 6, 1965 Congress ratified the 13th amendment which had eradicated slavery (13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution: Abolished Slavery). Already angry about losing the U.S. Civil War and wanting to keep whites the superior race, a secret group mainly membered by former Confederate Soldiers was formed. The Ku Klux Klan (also referred as the KKK or The Klan) was established in Pulaski, Tennessee in 1866. By the summer of 1867 most of the southern states had its own chapter of the KKK and they all met at a convention where they named Nathan Bedford Forrest the leader of the KKK. Forrest and the rest of the KKK would set up a group that would lead to the torture of thousands of black and as well whites who
The Ku Klux Klan started with small racial things, such as setting fire to crosses on African American lawns in the middle of the night. The Klu Klux Klan were known to wear white shades over their faces as not to be m. They would wear all white cloaks at times also. The would wear all white to symbolize that they are for whites only and that they were against anyone who were different or to just plain state that they are white. When they would wear black clothing and everything black, in normally implied that they were the leaders of the
The Klan was very successful during the late 1860s and early 1870s in threatening and frightening both blacks and whites. The KKK would dress in white robes and hoods, as the resemblance of the ghosts of the Confederate dead, and surround their prey’s house at night and simply drag them outside and kill them. They would either shoot them, hang them, or set the victim on fire. Most of the these individuals were blacks who stood up for their rights to be respected.
The Ku Klux Klan was a politically and racially motivated group that discouraged and frustrated attempts at racial equality (Bowles 2011). They were against all equality for anyone who supported a Union or was black. They were in control of the Southern states and they ran amuck abusing and murdering anyone they felt would threaten their way of life and the local and state governments sat back and supported their efforts to keep the blacks enslaved at all costs. In and article written by the Harper’s Weekly paper about the atrocities in the South it stated that,
