Kobe Bryant’s Public Relations Disaster
Introduction
Kobe Bryant before the NBA
Growing up with former NBA player Joe Bryant as a father meant that basketball was a relevant part of Kobe Bryant’s life from the beginning. Being a devoted basketball player as a child led to Bryant joining his high school’s basketball team, and leading it to victory 4 years in a row in the state championship. During this time Bryant also began exercising with the Philadelphia 76ers. With his dream of one day playing for the NBA, he opted to forgo college and focus on making his goal a reality.
The NBA, Olympics and Other Accomplishments
Bryant went straight to the NBA from high school. In 1996 he was drafted by the Charlotte Hornets, but was quickly traded to the Los

While this student thinks keeping a low profile during this crisis would have been best, it is not what Bryant did. During the middle of his public relations disaster, he attended the 2003 Teen Choice Awards and accepted an award for favorite male athlete. Considering the circumstances he was under, this was not a smart move on his part. When celebrities attend award shows, it makes the public more aware that they are in fact celebrities. It makes them less relatable to the public. Kobe Bryant needed to appear as relatable as possible during this time in an effort to appear more normal. Also because Bryant attended these awards, he is drawing more attention to the case, which is the opposite of what he should have wanted. When attention is drawn to a scandal of this caliber, everyone will want to weigh in with their opinions. If a mass of people weigh in, it makes the actual situation seem less serious. In reality, one of two things happened: either a young woman was raped, or a highly respected celebrity/athlete was false accused, both of which are terrible and unfortunate
Kobe came into the league in the most ideal scenario; he was picked by a big market, star studded, rich organization, the Los Angeles Lakers. To add to that, Kobe had 0 pressure due to the other superstar in town, Shaquille O’Neal. Kobe would be the robin to Shaq’s Batman, and by doing so, Kobe would have 3 championships in a row. In historical context, on the NBA’s chess board, Kobe was a knight; he was important but they could do without him. Kobe did not become an important piece until in his ninth year, when he was stranded with NBA journeymen. Comparing them to his old teammates was like comparing minute maid orange juice to Dom Perignon champagne. So, Kobe was granted permission to do whatever he wanted with the basketball in his hands, which lead to his average points per game going up, and his shooting efficiency to go down. LeBron however, was not drafted into success with no pressure and a Batman like Kobe was; he was the most anticipated basketball player ever, expected to lift a team, rather a city, whom had not won a sports championship since 1964, out from the ashes and into the limelight,at the age of 18. Unlike Kobe, Lebron had all the pressure to live up to his prophecy from the moment he stepped on the NBA’s basketball court and he did not disappoint. In fact, LeBron put up stats never before seen from a player so young, changing NBA history in the process. At 19, he
Shaquille O'Neal, also known as Shaq, is considered one of the most dominant centers to have ever played in the NBA. Standing at a towering 7 feet 1 inch and weighing over 300 pounds, Shaq impacted the game of basketball with his unique blend of size, strength, and skill. Throughout his career, Shaq left a major mark on the sport and changed the way basketball hoops were viewed and played. In this Chapter, I dive into the historical context of Shaquille O'Neal's impact on basketball hoops, explore key figures in his life and career, the influence he had on the sport, and discuss the positive and negative aspects of his career. Shaquille O'Neal burst onto the basketball scene in the early 1990s after a successful college career at Louisiana State University.
It is a great idea that LaVar Ball is starting a basketball league to provide teens the opportunity to bypass college and play basketball professionally.
However, Spike Lee captures Kobe as completely human, prone to minor mistakes, throughout the film. For example, when talking to his teammates on the bench versus the Spurs he says, "Hey Pau, my fault I thought you had a quick shot right there, that's why I threw it back to you" (34:12). Kobe not only admits to his mistake, but he explains his thought process when he made the wrong pass earlier in the game. Candid interactions like this allows the viewer to relate to Kobe, as his humbleness and composure often makes the viewer think twice about who they're watching; is it one of the greatest basketball players ever or just an ordinary dude? Later on, Kobe explains that post-game inters are particularly tough because he's always "out of breath." Once again, the viewer is surprised with another admittance of mortality, unlike the god-like status that he typically carries. By providing an eye into Kobe's private conversations in the locker room and on the bench that viewers otherwise wouldn't witness, the viewer is able to relate to Kobe.
Russell grew up in Long Beach, California, and went to UCLA, University of California Los Angeles. He played there for 2 years 2006-2008. After
The crowd was going crazy. It was the matchup they were all waiting for. Two of the best players to ever play the game, Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, were finally facing off. This would be one of the most memorable moments in sports history. Even though these two played in different eras, they share some qualities as well as differences.
Not only Kobe has confidence but alongside he is selfless, he does not just care for himself he cares for the community and every other person he wants the best for every single person in the world. Kobe had so much hate on him but has he done about the hate nothing because he doesn't care if he gets respect, he cares who he should give it
Few months before, Kobe Bryant who is probably the most controversial player ended his 20-year basketball career. Experts made their comments about him which led to a dispute about whether he is the greatest player in 21st century. As a limitation, the players in 21st century means the players who spent most of his career in 21st century, which put Michael Jordan out of consideration. Hence, the range of the choices could be probably narrowed to three players: Tim Duncan, Lebron James and Kobe Bryant. Moreover, according to Dan Harriman, a professional writer mentioned, a great player is the one has his contribution on and off the court, which is also the reason Michael Jordon is generally considered as the greatest player ever (in 20th century? Better to mention). Namely, the greatest player is determined by both the achievements inside the court and the impact outside the court as a public character. As a result, it can be
In spite of these players’ efforts, this year was the first time that a player straight out of high school has won the NBA MVP award. Kevin Garnett may have won the MVP award this year, but he has been in the league for nine seasons, which makes him a veteran player. Therefore, instead of spending his first four seasons in the NBA, he could have spent them in college, and then he could have come to the NBA and won the MVP award. By going to college he could have still kept improving as a player, but he could have also gotten the college experience and could have become a more educated person.
Lebron James, the first pick taken in this year’s draft, may be the prototype for an athlete having immediate fame and wealth by jumping straight to the NBA. Almost undoubtedly, he has set the bar for years to come. Before he even played in an actual NBA game, he already had his own commercial and shoe deals. When he was a senior in high school, ESPN and ESPN2 were already publicizing his regular season games whenever they had the chance. Amazingly, as a junior in high school, he was already being considered the next Michael Jordan (Broussard).
My final question is- Why? Why in the world would he do it? The guy is a self-made multiBILLIONAIRE. He doesn't need the money; he doesn't need the fame. In fact, his life is about to get much worse and more difficult.
This has become a huge deal for Americans because, for the first time, politics was introduced into the sports world and celebrities are voicing their opinions about it. Most notably, Former NBA superstar Kobe Bryant said Trump,” …can’t possibly ‘Make America Great Again.”
On September 13 2009, a gathering took place in which many of the most influential people in our generation met, The MTV Video Music Awards. This award show is a ceremony in which MTV, a cable channel, acknowledges the music videos produced in that year by famous artists. That night, as the presenters announced that the winner of the best female video award went to Taylor Swift, the crowd went wild: fans were crying, peers were standing, but one man in particular decided not only to stand, but also walked on the stage, took the microphone out of the winner’s hands during her acceptance speech and interrupted her. “Yo Taylor. I’m really happy for you, I’m going to let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time” said Kanye
First, a list of his accomplishments. Kobe was drafted out of highschool at the age of seventeen, broke into the league by winning the Slam Dunk contest in his rookie season, and by age of twenty-five he was a three time world champion. He was the youngest person to be named a NBA All-Star at the age of nineteen. The combination of his talents with the talents of Shaquille O’Neal was the greatest “one-two punch” of all time. That is an objective fact. Shaq himself has even admitted that had the duo stayed together after the 2004 season, they most certainly would have gone on to win additional world championships, but Kobe didn’t need Shaq. When it was all said and done, Kobe ended up with five rings to his name to O’Neals four - all five with the Lakers I might add.
Specific Purpose: To inform the audience about Michael Jordan and the rising of him playing basketball.
