According to legend, Sundiata was a righteous king. He was loved by his people because of his generosity, and feared because he punished the wicked. Sundiata was considered a hero. Dictionary.com describes a hero as “a person who, in the opinion of others, has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal.” Not only does this definition fit Sundiata, it perfectly describes my Uncle Rick. My Uncle was loved by all for his courage, generosity, and patience. In 2009 my uncle was diagnosed with Cancer. Much like Sundiata, he did not display and fear in the face of danger. No matter how much his condition worsened, he stayed strong and shed no tears. For the sake of his family and friends, he did not want to show weakness. After his diagnosis, he underwent chemotherapy as well as many surgeries. He continued to work and support his family for as long as he could. …show more content…
They come up with a plan to provoke Sundiata by stealing vegetables from his mother’s garden. Sundiata responds by generously giving access to the garden as well as elephant meat to the witches. In the shoes of Sundiata, Uncle Rick would have done the same thing. His generosity was always admirable. I had never met my real father. Uncle Rick was the closest thing to a father I have ever had. He was always there for me for as long as I can remember. If I needed a place to stay, his door was always open. If I needed a meal, he would feed me. More important than material things, he bestowed upon me the knowledge of how to be a good man. He taught me to be kind to others regardless of how they treated you. He taught me to always tell the truth. On the rare occasion he was proven wrong, he knew how to swallow his pride and apologize. He lived by the motto we all learned in pre-school, “treat others the way you wish to be treated.” I can think of no man more worthy of the title,

Cancer has played a huge role in my life recently. It started when dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer when I was a junior in high school. He tried to remain strong and act like he wasn’t scared, but you could tell he was terrified and depressed. On a few occasions I went with him to his radiation treatments and I was immediately impressed with the radiation therapists. They were always smiling, and trying to make the worst time of some people’s life better. When my dad talks about his cancer experience he always talks about how much of a positive impact his radiation therapist had.
Roughly about 10 years ago, I had a traumatic experience happen in my life. My brother Jef at the age of 19 passed away due to a rare cancer called Ewing’s Sarcoma. This cancer was also located in a very rare place, his pelvic area. Ewing’s Sarcoma is a bone marrow eating cancer, which causes the individual to become more susceptible to diseases, viruses, and different infections as well as deteriorating his bones. My brother Jef fought the cancer very bravely going through several different surgeries, radiation, and chemotherapy and nothing worked. Unfortunately, because the cancer is so rare he was practically patient zero and the doctors were doing everything they could to try and save him. In the end he passed away at home shouting his final words of “Screw you cancer! If I die you’re going with me.” He was fairly dramatic in life and now that I look back, I can see that the story of Gilgamesh and the story of my brother and I as alike.
During those six months she went through twelve treatments. I saw my young, energetic, happy mother lose weight and be fatigued. Thankfully, after a year of battling she came out on top and beat cancer. Now, nine years later she is cancer free and healthier than
During the story of Alchemist the main character set off on a journey to see what was out there for him and what he was here for. The two people that came to mind when talking about this topic were Stuart Scott and Craig Sager they were sports announcers that both changed the game and made it more entertaining, one thing they both had in common is that they fought cancer multiple times with a positive attitude. Craig was a very colorful and loved announcer the way he broadcasted made everyone just happy, while beating cancer he was always smiling and looked on the bright side of things. When Craig first started his career he was reporting for a station WXLT (now WWSB-Channel-40) in Sarasota Florida. Craig was first diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in April of 2014 he
I cannot describe what I felt when my mom told me she had cancer. I was sad, I was scared; I did not even know if I felt anything. My mom, however, stayed positive and hopeful while I stayed quiet and seemingly apathetic. There was an obvious ironic contrast between the emotional state of me and the woman who actually had cancer.
Cancer has one of the biggest effects on the patients mental health but also the patients loved ones and friends. It is one of the hardest things to get a grip on when the doctor tells someone that they have cancer and a fifty-fifty chance of making it. "The disease can bring many changes-in what people do and how they look, in how they feel and what they value" (Dakota 4). It makes people look at the world and their lives in a different way, valuing now what they took for granted and seeing the bigger picture in every scenario. It is something that no one can actually brace, even after the doctor tells them. Through it all though, the person must remain strong and optimistic because the cancer can affect the person's moods and in return affect the outcome of the person and the chances of their making it
One of the many of the world's problems is sickness, but some diseases have no cure which can result in death. Cancer is a code we just can’t seem to crack and it has taken hundreds of thousands of lives. Everyone knows of someone who has died of or had cancer in their life. It’s a hard sickness to beat but many strong people do beat it, some being children. I have personally seen my family members go through this and of course, some didn’t make it out alive. If you have seen anyone who has cancer, you’ll see how it can take over your body, how that person doesn’t even look like themselves anymore.
In the past year, three of my family members, including my dad, have been diagnosed with cancer. In addition, after a four year battle, cancer took the life of one of my friends. As unfortunate as this news is, people all around the world will continue to be left with no other choice but to fight for their lives, until a cure for cancer is discovered. With
About a year after being diagnosed, his doctor told him that he was cancer free. He was so happy; his face was all smiles. I had never seen him so happy in his entire life. It was such a beautiful sight seeing my old mans face that lit up, he told everyone that he was cancer free. I was so proud of my father for being that strong, cancer couldn't even bring him down.
