Ahmad Sheharyar Ms. Esposito English 9 3/13/24 Romeo and Juliet essay Friar Laurence, in an attempt to help Romeo and Juliet, ends up killing Romeo, Juliet, and Paris. In William Shakespeare’s play, Romeo and Juliet, Friar Laurence is to blame for the death of the two star crossed lovers, because Friar secretly married the two and because of a plan that was made to fake Juliets death and that resulted in Romeo killing Paris and then Romeo killing himself, and after Juliet wakes up, she finds Romeo on the ground dead and ends up killing herself with a knife.
The tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is world-renowned, and for good reason; the story and theme still hold true today, and the tragedy is one of the most famous in the modern day. The two lovers died because of a failure of outside forces, but the question is: who inadvertently killed the two? Some may say Juliet's father, Lord Capulet, some may say Juliet's nurse, but Friar Lawrence, the town advisor, is the one character that stands out the most. Although Friar Laurence appears as a kind-hearted and good-willed individual throughout the play of Romeo and Juliet, he serves as the character that brings about the tragedy. Friar Laurence fails, sealing the fate of the young lovers.
Friar Lawrence is the most responsible for the rapid marriage of Romeo and Juliet because he conveys a lack of experience; anticipating that it will end the feud between the Capulets and the Montagues. When Romeo encounters Friar Lawrence, he requests him to be married to Juliet. Instead of thinking about the potential consequences that Friar might face, he impulsively agrees to their request by marrying Romeo and Juliet. As Friar was talking with Romeo, he exclaimed, But come, young waverer, come, go with me. In one respect I'll thy assistant be, For this alliance may so happy prove (Shakespeare 2.3.96).
In The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, the play ends in sorrow, with every character feeling the impact of Romeo and Juliet’s tragic end. However, one character stands out from the others in terms of blame for the tragedy: Friar Laurence, due to his disregard of Romeo’s headspace when he comes to The Friar, and secondly in giving Juliet the sleeping potion instead of just coming forward with the secret marriage of Romeo and Juliet. Friar Laurence marries Romeo and Juliet without their parents permission. As stated by Fr. Laurence, “Young men's love then lies.

"to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun
“Hold daughter I do spy a kind of hope”(183).This quote spoken by Friar Lawrence in William Shakespeare's famous romantic tragedy, warns that the willingness to help and support someone can ultimately cause their death. In William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet support is shown in more than just one way. Friar Lawrence's willingness to support Romeo and Juliet ultimately causes their deaths.
People act different in certain situations some coward and run away while others stand strong and be courageous. In to kill a mockingbird almost every character shows acts of courage in dangerous situations. Atticus shows great amount of courage against the mob that was threaten to hurt him if he didn’t move out of the way and let them get Tom Robinson out of the upstairs of the jail house. He just sits there with not a worry in the world standing up and protecting Tom Robinson from the angry crowd.
The novels: To Kill A Mockingbird and When A Girl Is Born show a common feature of having the courage to call in question the social norms of their society. In the novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, Atticus challenges Maycomb's ways as he defends a black man accused of raping a white woman. By doing so, he is accepting the impossible by admitting that a black man is innocent and hence accusing a white folk of being guilty. As a result of doing so, he attracts many hardships. For instance, Bob Ewell disrespects Atticus by spitting on him, in return Atticus says, "So if spitting in my face and threatening me saved Mayella Ewell one extra beating, that’s something I’ll gladly take." This quote shows how Atticus considers the ignorant and cruel paradigm
Nelson Mandela once said, “I learned that fear and courage was not in the absence of fear, but the triumph over it.” This quote relates to Harper Lee’s Atticus Finch. In the novel, Atticus Finch is a symbol of bravery in Maycomb. His children, Scout and Jem, learn from him, and that is what causes them to lose their innocence, and focus on how people are acting in Maycomb towards racism. Atticus defends a black man, named Tom Robinson, even though people that supported his opponent, Bob Ewell, were mean to him. In Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus portrays the theme of courage in the face of evil through defending Tom Robinson, the confrontation with Bob Ewell, and when the men came to hurt to Tom Robinson in his jail.
“Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen,” said by Winston Churchill. I think this quote relates to Atticus because of the trial, he has to speak up for what he believes in and he also has to sit down and listen. It also relates to what Atticus tells his kids sometimes, like the time with Scout and school. In To Kill A Mockingbird Atticus is a wise father, a clever lawyer, and a brave man.
