I have chosen the constellation Leo. I have chosen Leo because it is my horoscope sign. The real name of the constellation Leo is leonis which in translation means "the lion". Leo's right ascention is 11 hours, and its declination is 15 degrees. Leo is made up of 11 stars(regulus, denebola, algiebra, zosma, ras elased australius, adhafera, chort, al minliar asad, alterf, ras elesed borialas, subra). Leo is also one of the 13 constellations of the zodiac. There are two strong contenders as to which mythical lion is represented by the constellation LEO. The first is the Nemean lion which Hercules had to kill as the first of his 12 Labours. This fearsome beast terrorised the land, killing all who ventured near it. Not only was it more fierce, larger and stronger than other lions, but it also had the added advantage of possessing a skin which was impervious to metal, stone and wood. Since, for this reason, Hercules could not kill the lion with any weapon, he wrestled it with his bare hands, and finally managed to …show more content…
Both sets of parents of this young couple considered them too young to marry and stopped them seeing each other. However, the pair made arrangements to meet secretly by a mulberry tree with white berries. When Thisbe arrived at the appointed place, a lion sprang out from some bushes and she ran away in fright. Unfortunately, her veil fluttered to the ground as she ran and the lion, bloody from its latest kill, pounced on it. A short time later Pyramus arrived, saw his beloved's bloody veil and believed that she had been killed. Totally distraught, and unable to face life without her, he threw himself on his sword. As he lay dying, Thisbe returned, took his sword and killed herself. The blood of the tragic pair coloured the berries of the mulberry tree red, and so they remain to this day. Some suggest that Zeus placed Thisbe's veil in the heavens as Coma
Medea, from the story of the Golden Fleece, knew who Theseus was and wanted to keep her influence on the king, so she persuaded Aegeus to poison his son. Before Aegeus could give Theseus the poison, Theseus presented the sword his father left for him and while Aegeus embraced his son, dropping the cup of poison to the floor, Medea escaped to Asia. Aegeus confessed to his son that before his arrival, he sent the son of Minos, the ruler of Crete, on a dangerous mission to hunt a bull. The bull killed the son causing Minos to demand that every nine years, seven youths and seven maidens be sacrificed to the mighty Minotaur. Theseus decided to be one of the chosen sacrifices in order to kill the Minotaur. Minos' daughter, Ariadne, falls in love with Theseus and tells him that if he takes her back to Athens and marries her, she will help him escape the Minotaur's lair. He used a ball of
The clouds turned eerie and dark, as lightning struck beautifully, and the thunder roared loudly in the sky, welcoming the new king of the Lionheart Kingdom, King Leo XVI. Leo was a fortunate and young cub born in the wealthy side of the kingdom. He was chosen to be the king because his grandfather, Leo XIV had died. Leo was still a young cub, and he still had so much to discover about the world around him. He was not the typical lion who was brave, courageous, and audacious; he was more of a lazy, indolent, and an indecisive lion. As soon as he became king he moved into a paradisal and heavenly palace called Leon, where everything is what any poor animal could ever dreamed of. And what is a king without a queen? Leo decided
Hercules was the son of Zeus and Alcmene. Zeus had fallen in love with Alcmene, so he disguised himself as her husband. Hera was furious when she found out about Hercules so she sent down 2 snakes to kill him. Since Hercules was a half-blood he possessed inhuman strength, therefore he strangled the snakes and proceeded to play with their corpses as if they were toys. In his youth Hercules tended cattle after he killed his music tutor, Linus, by hitting him with a lyre. Hercule's first wife was named Megara. Unfortunately,
The Stamnos vase of Hercules and the Nemean lion depicts the Greek Hero Herakles first labor, the battle with the Nemean Lion. The twelve labors were a form of punishment for killing his wife and children in
I chose the constellation Andromeda because the back story and myths it has really fascinates me! I feel that some of the myths behind the consolations can be rather boring, but with the romance and danger all wrapped into one, I continue going back to it. This constellation is the 19th largest in the sky and is located in the first quadrant of the northern hemisphere. It takes seven-hundred-twenty-two square feet in the sky!
I have chosen the Perseus Constellation. I chose that contallation because I have always liked the Greek Gods mythology. Perseus, named after the Greek Mythology hero, is a constellation in the Northen Sky. Perseus is bordered by Aries and Taurus to the south, Auriga to the east, Camelopardalis and Cassiopeia to the north, and Andromeda and Triangulum the west.
In the mythology story “Pyramus and Thisbe,” by Edith Hamilton, Pyramus and Thisbe live next door to each other. They are in love, but their parents do not approve. They make a plan to meet under a mulberry tree. While Thisbe is waiting, she sees a lioness with blood on her mouth from a kill. As Thisbe runs away, she drops her cloak. The lioness tears the cloak, so when Pyramus comes, he sees the bloody cloak and thinks that Thisbe is killed by the lioness. Pyramus kills himself with his sword because he could not protect Thisbe. Thisbe returns to find Pyramus dying and uses his sword to kill herself. Their blood turns the white mulberries a deep red for their everlasting love.
I have chosen the constellation Scorpius. I chose Scorpius because it is one of the most interesting looking constellations (in my opinion), and it contains many bright stars. Scorpius means scorpion in Latin, and it is a zodiac sign, although its name is changed to Scorpio. It is in the southern hemosphere, and it lies between Sagittarius and Libra.
The constellation of Orion has an interesting back story based on the hunter of the same namesake in greek mythology. A scorpion was set upon Orion by the goddess Gaia after he threatened to kill every animal on the planet, part of the myth also says that this is the reason that constellations of Scorpius and Orion never appear in the sky at the same time.
The constellation of choice is Taurus because I am a Taurus and therefor wanted to learn more about the constellation and myself through it. The Word "Taurus" is Latin for "The Bull" and the constellation itself is located in the northern hemispheres winter sky. It has been around since The Bronze Age, making it one of the oldest constellations. It has had great agricultural influence and has been told about in myths of Romans, Greeks, and many more. It has 2 of the closest Open Clusters to Earth and holds the red star Aldebaran.
My favorite constellation is Capricornus, because in Latin it means "The Goat". I chose this constellation because goats are my favorite animals and I even own a goat at my muggle house. Capricornus is one of twelve constellations in the zodiac family, and is the 40th largest constellation in the sky. Capricornus's brightest star is Deneb Algedi, Delta Capricorni. This constellation is found in the southern sky.
The constellation I have chosen is Cancer. I chose this constellation because it is my zodiac sign. Naturally, I found it interesting to learn about and write an essay on my discovery and creation theory. Cancer is Latin for "Crab", The name was chosen because the representation of the the constellation is in fact a crab. The constellation is 506 sq. degrees and made up of faint stars.
Firstly, in agreement with Clarke, the lion similes are the similes that are the focal point in the Iliad. As Clarke states, there are other kinds of similes that feature in the epic such as wolves, leopards, boars and even cows but these do not hold as much importance as the lion simile does. In relation to all the other beasts and animals mentioned, the lion is the one that is at the top of the food chain, the one that is the most ferocious, strong and powerful.
Lions are known to be majestic creatures among many people. Throughout history lions had been referred to “King of Beast” due to their dangerous persona. During ancient times lions were associated with bravery and power by killing them. These creatures have been a mystery to so many people. From the way they live, to their behavior around other animals or towards each other. As well as the history lions have endured and the symbol it meant to people in history. Through this research paper I will be explaining the life of lions and possibly answering a few of your questions.
I have chosen the constellation "Aries". I have chosen this constellation because it is also my Zodiac symbol. Aries is one of twelve of the Zodiac Constellations. It is in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is between Pisces and Taurus. Aries is the Latin name for ram. It's symbol is Aries.svg, which represents a ram's horns. Aries is a mid-sized constellation. It ranks 39th in overall size. It has an area of 441 square degrees, which is 1.1% of the celestial sphere. Aries represents the ram whose fleece became the Golden Fleece of Ancient Greek Mythology, even though Aries has been represented as a ram since the times of Babylon. Before the Babylonian times the stars that make up Aries formed a farmhand. Aries has been interpreted different
