Kendrick Lamar accumulated the most nominations of any artist (8) at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards. The 30-year-old rapper from Compton is having his moment and quickly has became this generation’s rap icon. With the combination of his versatility and lyricism, Lamar has all of the tools to rival all of the all-time greats that came before him. 1 spot on the Billboard Top 200 list. Not to mention, this is the third no. 1 album from Lamar. His 2015 release To Pimp A Butterfly, and 2016’s Untitled Unmastered Compilation also spent time at the top. As far as calling Kendrick a rap icon, there’s no debate he clears the threshold that I’ll address in a few. Good kid, m.A.A.d city,To Pimp a Butterfly, and DAMN, give him a trifecta of classics that compare to Eminem's Marshall Mathers LP, Snoop Dogg’s Doggystyle, Nas’ Illmatic, 2Pac'sAll Eyez On Me, Dr. Dre’s The Chronic and all of the other albums that are considered timeless classics. Throw in Lamar's Section.80, which is a cult classic that continues to grow in the hip-hop world today. His impact in rap through that period isn't really up for debate, but now he's starting to make real waves in pop culture as well. Once he released the “Humble" video, his legendary Grammy performances in the recent past, and headlined Coachella — he put his stamp on the music world. Of course, everyone isn’t impressed with award, accomplishments, mainstream status. So how does Lamar fare with the ones who don’t? Look at the impact he’s had on the hip-hop

Hell, looking back at my childhood, it sure does feel good knowing I was born a millennial. I don’t even want to know who I’d be today if I had grown up in a generation where Lil’ Wayne wasn’t regarded as the world’s most symbolic and quintessential rapper thanks to his ‘gangsta’ esthetic and unparalleled wordplay. Sadly, paragons with the likes of Wanye have gradually strayed further away from God’s light through the years; consequently, as the cycle of life continues to push forward and more people begin adding to the craft, it’s impossible to imagine where people will place these artists on their list decades down the line. Prayerfully not too low, but due to the unfathomable amount of overrated, mindless rappers that both music listeners have tagged as faces for a new generation, hip-hop culture should be prepared to reach its lowest point. This new-wave of overly-glorified rappers need to start being taken for what they truly are and once you get a listen of their generic, monotonous music, it goes without saying that they are average at best.
Like I said, and I would be surprised if less than 70% of rap listeners would disagree that Kendrick Lamar is better than Migos by a longshot. Migos biggest albums are Culture, YRN 2, and YRN. While Kendrick has some fantastic songs on the albums: DAMN., Section.80, ‘Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City’, and To Pimp a Butterfly. When it comes to influence, it is a hard topic to judge on because rap nowadays unlike back in the 80s and 90s isn’t nearly as influential, but I would say Kendrick has the most influence on the people and exploiting certain lifestyles. I feel like that Kendrick Lamar is better than Migos and if you need any persuasion on the topic (which I doubt), I hope I helped you agree with my
