The issue of justice or fairness is the greatest interest of mankind and every individual desire fair treatment at all times. Lerner, (2003) found that justice affects employees’ effectiveness because of the strong interpersonal relationship that result from fair treatment. The service quality of an organization like a hospital cannot be achieved where employees are dissatisfied and psychologically divorced from their supervisors and organizations. Wong and Sohal, (2003) sees customers’ perceived service quality as the same with the behavioral disposition of employee. The employees’ commitment to supervisors tends to result in their readiness to commit to the overall organizational. In essence, the level of commitment is capable of influencing the quality of service rendered by the employee. Agus, Barker and Kandampully, (2007) remarked that, behaviors that relate to the employees can impact on the quality of service rendered by the organization. Many of the labour actions in Nigerian workplace relate to wages and salaries. Elsewhere, the work of Adams, (1965 in Cropanzano, Bowen and Gilliland, 2007) reviewed that the problem is not with insufficient wages and salaries! It is more of inequitable distributions of wages and salaries found in employees’ pay bag. We belief that, employees tend to commit themselves to their supervisors, when they have reasonable grounds to conclude that they have received fairness in their pay bags. It is on this premise that we propose the
What is justice? Justice Is a concept of moral rightness based on ethics, rationality, law, natural law, religion, or equity. It is also the act of being just and/or fair. (Crime) It means to me punishment, fairness, and power by that I mean fairness as in equality for others like families, friends, and/or community. You have to have power in order to have fairness for the punishment that has been committed for example: murder, justice will prevail it always does.
“NCIS: New Orleans” Season 3 has gotten off to a fine start but Brody's absence is pinching everyone. It is not just the viewers who are complaining about her departure. Even her group cannot make it without her and since there is no official update about her return, the future seems pretty bleak for fans of Zoe McLellan.
This class is the first in my major of Criminal Justice, and throughout this class there will be a great deal of valuable information obtained. Justice can have several meanings to it because all of us are different in our own way, and we all will have different outlook on situations. Throughout this research paper you will learn about what justice means to me, and how I think I will impact society once I achieve my bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. Secondly, you will be able to compare with the remaining of the class mates to see exactly how many of our views are the same or different. Last but not least, there will be at least two
I’ve been taught from an early age to believe that no dream is ever too grandiose. Therefore, I took it upon myself to not only dream but to also work tirelessly towards making my dreams, my reality. I’m the product of the garment hemmed and fitted by multiple hands- family, friends, mentors, and strangers included. I’m made aware that my fate lies only in my hands and to never wait for someone else to decide it solely based on their limited view. Also from an early age, the difference between being ordinary and extraordinary was heavily instilled upon me. To numerous people of similar background, graduating high school and going on to attend college is extraordinary- a grand accomplishment in fact. Similarly, balancing 18 credit hours of classes, working 16 hours during the school week and volunteering on the weekends while maintaining
Contempt of court implies to the courts ' ability to punish individuals that might interfere with the course of justice and the court system. Criminal proceedings are acknowledged as being active through the 1981 act when an individual has been arrested without warrant; the grant of a warrant for arrest; the grant of a warrant to cite; or service of an indictment or other document specifying the charge. A Criminal proceeding will cease to be active when a verdict, sentence has been reached. Inference with the court system can take many forms, therefore there are grave contempt’s which could result in imprisonment of the editor or journalist. The essence of contempt ensures that an individual gets a fair trial; a part of the of the Human
Edgar Allan Poe is considered to be the father of the short story by many. Over the course of his life, he wrote hundreds of short stories and poems. His writing style is unique and influenced by the tragedies that occurred over the course of his life. In fact, he is most well known for writing morbid stories and gruesome, dismal poems. Indeed his writing habits were heavily influenced by his life. His life was full of depression, angst, and woe. Many of the people he cared for fell victim to deadly plagues and diseases. To cope with this pain, Edgar Allan Poe sought comfort in the bottom of a bottle. In his times of depression he would drink heavily and become sick for days at a time. In between his
It has been said from the moment that this great country was founded that justice is the end result and main function in our government, but is justice really being served? Is that function being fulfilled? Now a day government officials have violated many laws, morals and day by day many people have been fooled by the officials they themselves choose to be in power. Many functions in our government are twisted and the principles of correctness and righteousness to serve the community with the right motivations has been lost because of corrupt leaders in power who have change the spectrum of how the government should function and made it into how they wanted to function, changing the rules of the game and serving their needs and wants before performing their job which is to serve who has elected them.
In 1988, Metallica released its fourth album …And Justice for All which went on to be the band’s second-most-bestselling album. …And Justice for All pushes the boundaries of how progressive thrash metal could be, having more complex song structures and tempo changes than previous albums. The lyrical content of the album pushes the boundaries of how political metal bands could be as well. The lyrics in songs such as …And Justice for All and Eye of the Beholder explore how political oppression and injustice affect the individual and why it is wrong. The Shortest Straw tells of how discrimination and blacklisting leave an individual weak and powerless while Dyer’s Eve rants of how parents can be oppressive over the free will of their children. Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s The Social Contract explains why someone would come to these conclusions. In The Social Contract, Rousseau argues that for a social contract to be successful, everyone has to buy into it to keep their individual rights. Rousseau states that by giving yourself to the general will of the collective society, you give yourself to no one since you are on equal terms with everyone (Rousseau, 1987, 24). Rousseau’s arguments in The Social Contract about the problems of society and government when it does not follow a proper social contract explain the effects of political and social injustices on the individual in …And Justice for All’s lyrics.
In The Republic, the great philosopher Plato attempts to reveal through the character and dialogues of Socrates that justice is better when it is the good for which men must strive for, regardless of whether they could be unjust and still be rewarded. His method is to use dialectic, the asking and answering of questions. This method leads the audience from one point to another, supposedly with indisputable logic by obtaining agreement to each point before going on to the next, therefore, building an argument.
All employees analyze their environment and strive to be recognized and rewarded for their hard work and dedication they put into the company, in a word they are seeking justice. Justice can be defined as a person receiving what they feel they are entitled to and if they do not receive what they deserve, the situation may boarder on injustice. Unfortunately in today’s society justice and appreciation are not given out to all those deserving (Pinder, 1998). Within the Equity theory there are three justice theories. The first of which is distributive justice, this touches on if the referent feels that the outputs are fair that are given to the employees. This comes into play
Can you imagine any reason why justice might be good, other than its utility for society? This question is occasioned by the following remarks in the text. “Thus, the rules of equity or justice depend entirely on the particular state and condition…owe their origin and existence to that utility.” This question is significant for proper understanding and evaluating the consequences. He is saying that the only reason or “motivation” to be just is to help other people, especially to help the society as a whole. This means we are obligated to do it since it is a good. So, the only reason to have justice is due to the social obligation to help others. However, Hume mentions only one motivation for being just, but he has not cover the whole picture.
Communitarian critics of Rawls have argued that his A Theory of Justice provides an inadequate account of individuals in the original position. Michael Sandel, in Liberalism and the Limits of Justice argues that Rawls' conception of the person divorces any constitutive attachments that persons might have to their ends. Hence, Sandel asserts that Rawls privileges the standpoint of self-interested individuals at the expense of communal interests. I do not find Sandel's specific criticisms to be an accurate critique of what Rawls is doing in A Theory of Justice. However, this does not mean the more general thrust of the communitarian analysis of Rawls' conception of the person must be abandoned. By picking up the pieces
In The Republic, the topic of justice dominates the conversation in Books 1 and 2. Socrates, Thrasymachus, Glaucon, and Adeimantus explore the definition of justice in the individual and state through a series of debates and discussions, with each of them arguing which is most advantageous, justice or injustice. For the majority of Books I and II Socrates defends his claim that justice is not only a good thing in and of itself, but also favorable for the state and individual for its consequences. Thrasymachus, Glaucon, and Adeimantus offer counterclaims to Socrates’ argument in order to elicit elaboration on the role of justice and its importance. While looking at each interlocutor’s arguments, one can see that they all are convincing, but with further analysis, each it flawed in proving whether justice or injustice is the most favorable. Based on the arguments proposed, I believe the views of injustice given by Thrasymachus, Glaucon, and Adeimantus benefit the individual in attaining short-term, extrinsic benefits. However, Socrates’ view of justice, that justice is in fact more favorable and advantageous than injustice, benefits the individual in gaining long-term and intrinsic, more complex benefits.
Injustice is the lack of fairness or justice. According to the U.S. Justice Department, in 2003 about 10.4% of all African American men between the ages of 25 to 29 were incarcerated, as compared to 2.4% of Hispanic men and 1.2% of non-Hispanic White men. This seems to be an injustice to me that even with this information being 10 years old there has been no significant change in these numbers or at least an equal distribution of the individuals incarcerated. African American men have a one-in- three chance of being incarcerated at one point in their lives, and receive sentence 20 percent longer than Caucasian and Hispanic males on average.
Over the decades, the concept of justice has been continually evolving. This is occurring based upon different moral or legal interpretations. Evidence of this can be seen with observations from Burke (2011) who said, "Few things are of more importance to a society than its concept of justice. This is because it is justice that provides criterion for the legitimate use of force. In the name of justice people are detained, arrested, handcuffed, put on trial and punished. This concept is used to provide every society with some kind of social order. Over the last 200 years, a revolution has taken place with these principles. Our idea of it is what we employ, when dealing with ordinary individuals in daily life including: making agreements, paying bills, resolving disputes and putting criminals in jail. This is a concept that is as old as recorded history and it is familiar to people everywhere. What makes it so unique is that these ideas are constantly changing which focuses on society as a whole and how people are interacting with each other. " (Burke)
