Junk Food A kid is going through the store, he is at the registrar, and just as he is checking out he grabs three bars of chocolate. Those bars of chocolate probably will not have negative effects on this kid for that one time, he will naturally find a way to burn them off. But what if this same kid did this every day. Now he might begin to have a problem. If people do not watch what they are eating then they will gain weight. Junk food is a notorious problem in the struggle with fight against obesity and diabetes but can be avoided.
The first steps that need to be taken are teaching and educating children and parents as to how they can eat better at home and why schools need what they have. Being that, the schools can not be plagued with the disfunction and neglect of a family who can feed their child properly. We need to focus on properly educating children to make better decisions when it comes to what they consume, and that teachings begins at home Let 's concentrate on teaching kids to make good decisions when it comes to food. That teaching begins at home. Teaching kids how to eat properly is simply something that should begin long before the school years ever come close. Furthermore, children who make balanced decisions at home will have a better chance to do so outside of the home. Furthermore, kids who eat healthy at home tend to eat healthy elsewhere. Parents Parents also need to monitor what their
Thank you for your time today. I am writing to you in hope that you will understand the issue and be motivated to make changes due to it. In the united states at least 678,000 deaths each year die due to poor diet, lack of nutrition, obesity and obesity rates have tripled in children. Children all learn what they know, and that includes knowledge on a proper diet, in school, so why are schools not helping enough in this matter? Why are schools hiding healthy eating habits behind bought pizzas and chips and other junk foods in the cafeteria? We, in the united states, are required to educate children in health at schools, through P.E. and health classes, and should not undermine their work by giving out the opposite of what we suggest. Many may say that this takes away freedom or is not that big of a problem, but do children really want to be obese or unhealthy? Do students want to die young from linked diseases such as Diabetes type 2 and cardiovascular diseases? No. They would still have food choices, but they would be able to have better options to choose, ones where facts and statistics do not cause fear in parents, but happiness.
The governments have tried to get involved, but their attempts have failed in the long run, trying to strive to get kids to eat better because of funding. All were of good intentions, but there needs to be a program that is going to last is the issue now. Since the world is all technological, the kids by watching someone who is important to them on the television getting kids to see the importance of their health. Since funding is a problem, there should be groups getting together to try to solve it and come up with a solution as this will lead to a long lasting effect on all who are involved. This is not a hopeless cause as “a study of 8,165 children, which showed that for the first in decades, the increase in U.S. childhood obesity has leveled off” (Kluger).
You can tell the difference between kids with a father figure, and ones without. The way kids behave and act to situations can direct back to the parent at home or not at home. In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, the daughter of the story, Scout Finch, has an exceptional father named Atticus. His delicate words guide her and care for her.
To touch on poor nutrition, research shows that almost one-third of U.S. children between the ages of four and nineteen eat fast food every day; this results in weight gain of approximately 6 extra pounds on a growing child each year (NACHRI, 2007). Fast food consumption has increased fivefold among children since 1970. Not only is fast food an issue, but when parents reward their children with sugary foods and/or use fruits and vegetables as a punishment, this may cause children’s views toward nutritious food to be negative. Some great educational tools that can be shared both in and out of the classroom are “The Food Guide Pyramid” and “My Plate.” Both show that appropriate number of serving of each food category. “My Plate” does a great job of even providing games, activity sheets, kid-friendly recipes, and physical activity tips to elementary aged children (My Plate, 2015). They also provide great resources for adults so parents and educators can practice what they preach and set good examples for children. Educating children on an what a healthy diet consists of and why it is important is probably the greatest preventative tool we can use to prevent obesity. As the famous saying goes, “knowledge is
Sadly, because president Obama has done such a poor job as president, you won't see another black president for generations!
Childhood obesity is a major cause for concern within the United States. This is mainly due to children not getting the require nutrition that they need. Although study show that there is a decrease in obesity in children, it still remains at an all-time high. Children are failing to eat as healthy as they should, and it has become an even bigger problem now that they aren’t getting the require amount of food in their diets. The USDA made a decision a couple of years ago to reduce the amount of food given to children while they are at school. This hurts them tremendously, because the majority of the food they eat comes from being at school all day. The other half lies on the parents when they go home and eat dinner. It is very important for children to eat healthy and eat the required amount of food according to various dietary guidelines. First Lady Michelle Obama has started a new campaign to help kids and parents combat obesity in children. One thing that the campaign has placed emphases on is getting healthier food within school. Although they are getting healthier foods in school they are beginning to change the proportion they are giving students. Through the First Lady’s Let’s Move campaign students should be giving healthier foods and also be allowed to have the correct proportion to help them maintain a healthy diet.
Should changes be made to the regulations for the foods that are served in public schools? This can be a very controversial question to most people; children with obesity, parents who do not care and for who does care about the health of the children and teachers who only wants what is best for the benefit of the children. This paper will attempt to explain and convince the unknown of why it is very important for our public schools to have a healthy eating curriculum for the children that attends there. If society can find a way to come together for the children of the community to fight to have healthier foods in the community, come together and provide counsel to the children of what healthy eating is all about. This paper will
Obesity should not be an unknown term to the majority of the Americans as a significant percentage of the American population is obese. As the number of obese people skyrockets annually, obesity tends to be a major threat not just in America, but globally. The number of obese individuals has doubled in past four decades, probably by practicing the art of super-sizing (Marks). Obesity is a complex physical problem in which a person weighs 20% or more in addition to his normal body weight for given height and age and Body Mass Index (BMI) which includes those of 30 and
Parents should shape their children eating habit, by giving them healthy food such as vegetable, and fruit. Parents should prevent their children to have access to junk food, and decrease kids’ food preference. Parents can also encourage their kids to walk to and from school if the school is not too far. Parents should cut off TV time for their kids to two hours a day. Moderate physical activity is very important for children to maintain healthy weight. Kids should be encourage to exercise at 30 minutes a day. This should be done at school since children spend most of their day time at school. Another action that needs to be taken to reduce childhood obesity is food regulation at elementary schools. Government should remove vending machines from all elementary school because these foods contain high calories. The price of low calories food should be reduced to encourage children to eat healthy.
On an institutional level, having schools provide healthy lunch options and remove high fat and high sugar foods from vending machines would be helpful. It would give the children at least one area where, if they are buying lunch from the school, their food will always be nutrient dense. Instituting mandatory nutrition courses at schools would educate the children on what they should be eating and explain why, making it more likely that they would change their eating habits since they will be able to understand why healthy eating is important. Performing a survey on the children of what their favorite sports or outdoor activities are would be a
The following expanded annotated bibliography will be look at the topic of electronic monitoring, it will be providing the reader with sufficient information how it could potentially be better for our society, it will also be providing studies and researches conducted on electronic monitoring
Kids not being healthy can definitely affect what happens when this kids grow up, because grownups will pass on their eating habits on to their children, and it will keep carrying on. Do you think we should act now, or leave it as it is? Here are some solutions to our problem. First we can have an after school program that is there to help kids, but to them it will be like a fun challenge with there friends. Another solution may be, to have a back pack program like we do here, and put healthier food for kids to bring home. In the meantime, we can have food that kids actually like for them to choose from. like each school take a survey and see what most kids like for fruits and vegetables. Then put them out for students to chose from. Although it may be costly, but at least kids will be eating healthy, and kids won't be obese anymore.
As a nation, Americans revel in the consumption of junk food. These extremely unhealthy foods are often present during many various occasions, such as sports events, movies, and parties. When a person craves a quick snack, junk food is the ideal solution. However, beyond the satisfying taste of foods such as Doritos and potato chips lies a very serious problem. These foods can lead to physical disrepair, sickness, and even death. Yet many Americans remain oblivious to this nationwide issue and allow it to remain unaddressed. The crisis of junk food in America needs to be resolved immediately. To go more in depth, it is imperative that the nation resolves this issue relatively soon, primarily because the excessive consumption of
Our children’s nutritional education is almost nonexistent. Ask a fifth grader what the food pyramid is and you’re likely to receive the same blank stare as I did. Most children have no idea what a balanced meal is because they may have never received one. Schools provide nutritional meals at lunch, but there is no enforcement when it comes to eating your fruits and vegetables. Lets face it, children eat what’s familiar. If they haven’t had it at home they are probably not going to eat it at school. If there are no vegetables at home, they are not going to eat them at school. Home life definitely sets the tone for a child’s eating and exercise routines.
Restrictions should be made against junk food in school in order to decrease the rate of obesity and diabetes.“Junk food can be addictive for children and complications like obesity, chronic illness, low self esteem and even
