The American author, teacher, and mythologist, Joseph John Campbell, is universally known for his work in comparative folklore and culture. His studies led him to discover the pattern, journey of the hero. The sequence consists of three stages and exists in many dealings with Greek mythology as well as current popular culture. A modern example of the occurring cycle is the 2001 production, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. In the film, an orphaned young boy named Harry Potter is invited to study at Hogwarts, School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In time, he is involved in a dangerous quest to save the wizarding community from the grasps of the Dark Lord. The film demonstrates aspects of a traditional journey of the hero because Harry …show more content…
Harry’s departure from his old life is evident once he steps on to Platform Nine and Three Quarters to board the Hogwarts Express (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone). Leaving his previously known home is not difficult because of the ten years of neglect that occurred in the Dursley household. Harry has only been in two magical places and he already feels more comfortable than ever. Now that he has crossed over to the hidden world of magic, he is ready to embark on his adventure.
Soon after entering Hogwarts, Harry must face a road of trials which will eventually lead him to achieve his unlikely treasure. While roaming the halls after curfew, Harry receives detention in the forbidden forest, and comes face to face with the Dark Lord. Other obstacles come to place when Harry travels down the trap door into the chambers; such as devil’s snare, a human wizard’s chess game, and the room of keys (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone). The series of tests make Harry’s mission difficult; however, the knowledge he gains from the unsuccessful trials bring him closer to his main goal. These minor bumps in Harry’s journey strengthen him emotionally and physically, readying him to defeat the traitor at the end of his succession of tests. Unexpectedly, the betrayal comes from the quivering Professor Quirrell who voluntarily gives up his body to the Dark Lord. Harry sees himself in the mirror and realizes he is magically in possession of the Sorcerer’s Stone. Shortly
The Harry Potter world appeals to many people everywhere but, it is lesser known that its stories follow the same tropes as numerous other books and movies. "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” by J.K. Rowling and “The Odyssey” by Homer both closely relate in the fact that they follow the Hero's Journey, a pattern of narrative identified by Joseph Campbell. Both “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” by J.K. Rowling and “The Odyssey” by Homer each follow the Hero’s Journey tropes, including their mentors, allies, and supreme ordeals.
Next, an epic hero usually has another character close to him that is very wise and almost all-knowing, and Harry Potter is no different. The all-knowing character in Harry Potter is obviously Albus Dumbledore. Dumbledore knew of the connection between Harry and Voldemort long before Harry or Voldemort learned of it. Dumbledore is also one of the only people in the entire series to learn about Voldemort’s secret to immortality, Horcruxes. Dumbledore plays a very important role in Harry’s life; he is the one to tell Harry about the Horcruxes which eventually allows for Voldemort’s defeat. There is a character in epics that are wise and knowledgeable and Dumbledore is that character in Harry

In the book Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone there are two different worlds. One, which is the same as our real world, called the muggle world. There’s nothing particularly special about it, people go to their normal jobs everyday and later comes home to their normal families to spend some normal time with them. They read about abnormal things in fairy tales and fantasy books, those things doesn’t exist in the ”real life” to them. The magic world however is full of wizards, sorcerers, supernatural creatures and is a very special and intriguing world. It's the reality of the muggle world's fantasy and imagination. Words such as ’animagi’ and ’quidditch’ are used in their daily volcabulary when muggle people have barely heard them before.
There he was again, staring out a window. This time, Harry was watching the suburban empire from which he had narrowly escaped, fly past in a dizzying blur. The bus was small and oddly smelled of raisins, but he was on his way. He had managed to elude Petunia’s hawk-like watch on him and prevail against all odds. In his hand, he still tightly clutched the locket, half afraid it would suddenly slip through his fingers. Quite honestly, it wouldn’t surprise him if it did. In the wizarding world, anything was possible. Which was sometimes an unprecedented problem. Through the hexes and curses, riddles and potions, it could be hard to know what to believe. Harry was so sick of being lied to. It was an infuriating game of tag and chase. Every
He makes his way up the stairs as he hears voices coming from the room with the light on.

If you think about all the fantasy movies you’ve seen or have heard of there is always some kind journey or quest that the main character is involved in. Somehow when they are finished with the journey they have changed to being possibly being more mature, or they have learned they need to change their ways to be the person they want to be. In The Goblet of Fire, Harry is younger than all the other contestants in the competition and has less experience than all of them but still, must complete all the task like everyone else. Many people doubt that he will be able to accomplish all the task and many think he might die in the process. His journey has already started since there are already previous movies but for this one, his journey begins when his name is spat out of The Goblet of
In his fourth year at Hogwarts, Harry Potter is mysteriously chosen to participate in the “Triwizard Tournament” despite not meeting the age requirement. This is later revealed to be a plot to restore Dark Lord Voldemort to full power, orchestrated by “Death Eater” Barty Crouch Jr, who is Actually at Hogwarts impersonating the Auror (Dark Wizard Catcher) Alastor “Mad-Eye” Moody.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is one of my all-time-favorite movies. I have watched it many time but only three marked me: when I was eleven-years old watching it with my forty-nine classmate, when I was eighteen-years old that just move here in the US, and when I was twenty-three-years old preparing myself to watch the last movie in the Harry Potter series. At eleven, I was jealous of Harry. At eighteen, Harry mocked me. At twenty-three, I pity myself. Everytime I watch it, it exposed my insecurities. Uninteresting scene, even though trivial, made them more apparent, more visible. This movie is the antithesis of my reality. It is a magical world that a “just Harry” could be someone special (Columbus). It is “a realm where

Harry Potter is an amazing book and movie series that has many great examples of literary archetypes. At the end of the series, Harry finally defeats Voldemort, ending his terror on the magical world. Nineteen years after the battle that ended it all, Harry now works in the Ministry for Magic along with his best friends, Ron and Hermione (who is now the Minister for Magic, or Prime Minister in our world). They all have children who now attend Hogwarts, starting their own journey. Who knows where their journey will take

Harry lost his parents in an accident by the dark lord Voldemort.
Harry's heart gave a horrible jolt. A test? In front of the whole school? But he didn't know any magic yet -- what on earth would he have to do? He hadn't expected something like this the moment they arrived. He looked around anxiously and saw that everyone else looked terrified, too. No one was talking much except Hermione Granger, who was whispering very fast about all the spells she'd learned and wondering which one she'd need. Harry tried hard not to listen to her. He'd never been more nervous, never, not even when he'd had to take a school report home to the Dursleys saying that he'd somehow turned his teacher's wig blue. He kept his eyes fixed on the door. Any second now, Professor McGonagall would come back and lead him to his doom.
