Personal Statement
What have you done to make your school or your community a better place?
To make my school a better place I joined the Health Academy. The Health Academy is a school program where they focus on people who are interested in the medical field and help us learn basic nurse duties.
The Health Academy is an amazing program for high school students or anyone interested in the medical field. Being in this program helps us gain experience on the basic duties for nursing. They do field trips where you gain experience in so many things. Not only is it fun but you get to experience different things for example you can do job shadowing, which is when you get to be with a professional person that you choose to see how they do their job.

It made me feel bad because they're starving and they can't do nothing about it. But if we get together and persuade other people to do it too they will appreciate it and it's going to make you feel proud of yourself. If you're a type of person who likes helping other you wouldn't mind doing it.
Describe your favorite academic subject and explain how it has influenced you.
My favorite academic subject will be all the the classes I took for the health academy, which are CTE medical pathways, Sports medicine and Intro to LVN. In this classes you learn about the basic nursing duties. You get to learn how to use the different equipment they use to take care of a patient. And how to properly assist them.
I liked this because it has to do with my future. I want a career in the medical field. Ever since I took this classes I got interested in the medical field. I want to be able to help others. These classes have made me gain experience with how a clinic and a hospital works. I was able to volunteer at a hospital and at the tzu Chi clinic. You learn a lot with having the opportunity to volunteer in many
My two main volunteer experiences consist of: Outdoor School, and volunteering for Homework Club at Gordon Russell Middle School. I have only been able to go to Outdoor School twice, but both times were filled with accomplishments. I worked on plants field study, so learning all the information, which seemed overwhelming at first, and then being
Hello my name is Olivia LaRocca, this year I will be a Junior at the UofA. Currently, I am in the Health, Care and Society major but do intend to study nursing. I am taking CHS classes because I think that studying Health, Care and Society will give me a better understanding and background moving forward as a nurse. I am hoping to learn more about sociology as it relates to health care and patient care. I would also like to understand more about the helping and caring for the community and in society.
I volunteered taking care of children, at a recreation center, where parents couldn’t afford expensive day care. I spent time at feral cat clinics to help reduce the overpopulation of cats. I began volunteering at three square and placing applications to help hospitals and soon plan to spend time with soup kitchens and homeless shelters. Through my community service I learned to communicate better, take on leadership roles and earned life changing opportunities along the way. Through volunteering I grew as a person, I matured, learned responsibility, and realized what I wanted to do with my life.
Life is full of wonderful and unique opportunities that each individual experiences. Many people said that academic success is one of the best ways to achieve a great future, but I also agree that taking the chance to learn from a different perspective other than the classroom can enhance the intelligent of a person. Since I was little, learning was something I was always passionate about. On the other hand, meeting new friends was never an act I enjoyed because I was too scared that others wouldn’t like me. When I became a member of HOSA: Future Health Professional, my life changed dramatically as I got the chance to explore who I am as a person, a friend, a future health professional, and most importantly, a leader.
One of the activities that I have done is volunteering. I've volunteered at St. Vincint de Paul by helping them get gifts and collecting food cans for people in need during Christmas time and for the pantry. We also helped out when the church had a festivel this includes enteraining the kids, giving out food, and face painting. I have also volunteered at the Samaritan Women Shelter. In the Samaritan I helped them organize the clothes and sort out donations that people would
I have done a lot of volunteering through my church with Vacation Bible School and several holiday celebrations. I also volunteered at Kettering Health Network Hospital for the summer of 2013. I would help discharge patients. During the
The summer of my freshman year I took a trip back to Ghana, my homeland. While I was there, I worked with some volunteer doctors at a local orphanage. My time was spent playing games with the children, helping then with their homework and just spending time with them. I assisted the doctors with a routine check-up for the children and even held the hand of a little girl while she was getting her shots. It was an enlightening experience that furthered my passion for
I have also enjoyed seeking out volunteering opportunities; some of my most precious memories are those that I have created by volunteering at the American Cancer Society. I helped out at
When looking at the NCCPA it was crazy that in the class of 2014 that almost everyone passed the exam. This made me realize how much they prepare you for the test. It's nice that on there website they put the course that you will be taking and you can compare them with other schools. Also, I liked how they put there Physician assistant mission statement on there website, this gives you an idea of what they expect out of all there
I completed a healthcare pathway to become a Certified Nursing Assistant and became licensed my junior year. I also currently take a Medical Office Assistant class that offers a certification test at the end of the year. Not only that, but I also took my healthcare learning experience outside of the classroom by joining HOSA, a health care club where I gained valuable knowledge and experience of what it means to be in the medical field. Regardless of where I was at, I have always been able to naturally share compassion and interest, two vital factors to be successful in the medical
My interest in Health Sciences started in 2013, my freshman year at Health Sciences High and Middle College (HSHMC). Prior to high school, I wasn’t sure what my passion is life was and every time someone would ask “What do you want to do when you grow up?” it was followed with a bow of the head and a shoulder shrug. As I moved into high school, I was offered an internship at SHARP Memorial Hospital and I decided that if I wanted to go into healthcare I would only know if I tried. My second internship at SHARP Mary Birch really started my love for health care and was the spark of a future career that I would make me smile when answering the aforementioned question. Health Occupations Students of America: Future Health Professionals has helped me work toward my goal in more ways than one.
The volunteering that I did related to different Corporal Works of Mercy or Spiritual Works of Mercy. In doing so, I learned many lessons that relate to my role as a student and responsibility in building the kingdom of God.
It gave me insight on working in medical field and hospital. The research and program was very educational, and I learned so much during my time. I can not wait to study medicine in college and be able to help people out. My experience is what drives my motivation for me to want to pursue this
7. What have you done to make your school or community a better place? One main thing I have done to make my school or community a better place is by helping people find their way around the school. I have also helped people who were new to the city.
After the car accident and my experience in the emergency room, my passion for medicine flourished. In my senior year of high school I enrolled in an Anatomy & Physiology course. I was enthralled by the curriculum and our visit to a cadaver lab. I chose Health Sciences when selecting a
