The day has finally come! Jessica has been waiting for this day for months. She has trained and practiced years for this moment when the day would finally come. Her first state basketball game. Jessica was 9 years old when she first had a love for the game of basketball. She had started playing when she was young with traveling teams made up of friends. She was one of the best on her team. Jessica had always felt like she needed to be good at basketball naturally because her mother was an amazing player who took her team to state the only time in history. When Jessica was in sixth grade, her mother coached her traveling team and they won almost every tournament they went to. After sixth grade she had to switch schools for multiple reasons
A person that I am very similar to is Brittney Griner. We have many things in common including our love for the game of basketball. The things we both love about basketball are, it tends to get us in shape in less time than working out for 10 minutes a day. Next, it lets us get out some of the frustration we have built up in us and last we both always have trouble figuring out what to wear on game days. So, I think that Brittney Griner and I are alike because, we love basketball, we both have anger issues we need to control, and have trouble figuring out what to wear on game days.
He kept hearing a thumping sound outside. He went outside to find a small, young Isaiah shooting basketball alone. He told him he was friends with his younger brother, Curtis, so Jason went back inside. ““Then it’s like 10 p.m., and I hear it again,” Terry recalled, his voice rising. “I go back out, and Isaiah is still out there shooting all by himself”” (Rudick). There are people that are closer to Isaiah that can tell stories like that. There was a time that James Thomas was contacted by Isaiah’s teacher because Isaiah was refusing to go inside after fourth-grade recess. He explained that he could only improve his game if he could play against the sixth-graders. In middle school, he rode city buses to find good games to get involved in, even if it were in a gym that required membership. He used his small size to sneak into those gyms. By the ninth-grade, he realized he was not going to grow anymore, so he decided he wanted to be the best under-six-foot player there ever was.

Monica Wright is a fictional character in the movie Love and Basketball. She is an eleven- year- old young African American girl, who grew up loving the game of basketball. Her father is an executive banker while her mother is a stay home mom which is the reason why they moved in Los Angeles into the suburb. They are a middle-class family who live next door to an NBA player and his family. The only thing that identifies her social role is her passion for basketball. Her role model is Magic Johnson because there are no WNBA players who aspire her and he is the greatest in basketball. The Women’s National Basketball Association, more commonly known as the WNBA, is a professional basketball league consisting of 12 teams spanning across the United States. The league was founded in 1996 but didn’t officially kick off until 1997. While it’s not the first major women’s professional basketball league in the United States, the WNBA is the only league that has received full backing from the National Basketball Association, more commonly, the NBA. Now in its 20th season under the direction of league president Lisa Borders, the regular season is played from June to September with the playoffs spanning through the remainder of September into the middle of October. Although they have the full backing from the NBA, there are still a few discrepancies between the two leagues. Even though WNBA games are not as exciting as NBA games, the players of the WNBA deserve equal pay because the team mindset makes the game more challenging, players continue to show their hard work in the offseason by playing overseas, and they inspire young girls by providing for charities as a result of their work.
Entering the fourth quarter 27th seeded Somers trailed 19th seeded Bloomfield by 18 points in the CIASC Class S girl’s basketball quarterfinal. Somers junior guard Emily Plagenza, who already hit a game winning buzzer beater to upset 6th seeded Old Lyme in the first round followed by a 20 point game in a second round win, was not going down without a fight. Plagenza put Somers on her back scoring 16 fourth quarter points to bring her team within one possession of advancing to the semi-finals. Somers wound up losing that game 64-61 but it is the toughness and determination that Plagenza displayed that would lead her into a career in sport.

I asked Emma Nuzzi what she thought her biggest accomplishment was, she replied with “I would say becoming a very good tennis player.” Emma Nuzzi started playing tennis at age twelve, which she thinks was a late age. When Emma was in the seventh grade she told her gym teacher that she wanted to play tennis she then replied to Nuzzi with “Maybe.”, this did not encourage Emma at the time because her gym teacher was the varsity tennis coach. Emma did not let this get to her too much because she practiced and became the player that she is today.
This semester, we’ve learned a lot of things about what goes on in married relationships and cohabitation relationships. We’ve been taught how to deal with situations and changes that may occur within any relationship. In order to apply the research I’ve learned about, I have chosen to compare a few topic that took place in the movie Love and Basketball. This movie shows many gender roles, nonverbal behaviors, family impacts on relationships, and how communication is key.
Within Hollywood’s movies depiction of drug addiction, many have failed to represent all true aspects that come along with such lifestyles. The movie, The Basketball Diaries, is based off a novel Jim Carroll wrote from his own diary entries. As a teenager growing up in the sixties, Carroll reveals his progression of drug abuse which eventually leads him addicted to heroin.Heroin is a white powder derived from morphine found in opium. It is commonly prescribed as a painkiller, but is also a popular street drug. The director casted Leonardo DiCaprio as Jimmy, and concentrates on creating the character as a stereotypical drug abuser. DiCaprio’s most captivating scene is when he is going through heroin
