Brittney Griner: Why I Love Basketball

The Women’s National Basketball Association, more commonly known as the WNBA, is a professional basketball league consisting of 12 teams spanning across the United States. The league was founded in 1996 but didn’t officially kick off until 1997. While it’s not the first major women’s professional basketball league in the United States, the WNBA is the only league that has received full backing from the National Basketball Association, more commonly, the NBA. Now in its 20th season under the direction of league president Lisa Borders, the regular season is played from June to September with the playoffs spanning through the remainder of September into the middle of October. Although they have the full backing from the NBA, there are still a few discrepancies between the two leagues. Even though WNBA games are not as exciting as NBA games, the players of the WNBA deserve equal pay because the team mindset makes the game more challenging, players continue to show their hard work in the offseason by playing overseas, and they inspire young girls by providing for charities as a result of their work.

Sue Bird, one of the greatest basketball point guards in the history of the WNBA has passed away today at the age of 36.

D.J. and I may be alike but we are two different people. A character that I am similar to is D.J. off of the television show “Full House”. She is my favorite character on “Full House” because she is relatable.

Most Americans often compare themselves with characters from their favorite movie or book. In fact, some people may even visualize themselves as their favorite character when they are watching a movie or reading a book. I relate most with the movie character Tip from the animated movie Home. Tip is very similar to me because she loves traveling and sight-seeing, she adores her pets, and she would do anything for her mom.

The documentary, “Hoop Dreams” depicts the structural, psychological, and environmental issues that perpetuates poverty in America through a cohort of individuals, Arthur Agee and William Gates. Agee and Gates’s lives are chronicled through a longintudinal study of four years, from the summer they enter high school, to their entry into college. Both African-American teenagers are recruited from different parts of Chicago, but they came together to begin their freshman year at St. Joseph’s High School, the institution that built Basketball superstar Isaiah Thomas. Both Arthur and William begin their journey in a similar manner, but were exposed to the complexity of their dream, their education, and negative societal factors that ultimately change the course of their lives.

Have you ever watched a movie and thought to yourself, “Wow, she/he reminds me of myself in a way.”, or, “Wow, he is a lot like Phil.”? I do that sometimes, especially with girls like Elizabeth Bennet. Elizabeth Bennet and I are similar because we are brave, strong and have many sisters. Elizabeth Bennet and I are similar because we are both brave and gallant. In the movie Pride and Prejudice and Zombies Elizabeth Bennet stands up for what she wants no matter what even if it means her getting judged as a result.

I also think we are similar because he had trouble thinking for himself and sometimes I feel like I just “go with the crowd” as well. Me and Andy are different though because although my dad wants me to do well he thinks there are more important things than sports.

One way that we were similiar is we are both youthful and energetic. A couple more ways we are alike is we both were very social. Timmy and I like to talk to a lot of different people and were very active that way. Also towards the closing of the play Timmy gets upset at his father and loses his temper, and lets his fury get the best of him. Me on the other hand do not lose my temper very often.

The resemblance has shortly disappeared as I got older but we still have the same hair and face. My sister looks nothing like us but the only thing that she has in common with my brother and I is probably the eyes. My sister and I have weird moments where we both have the same exact idea or thought in our mind at the same exact moment. My brother, sister and I are all athletic. We love sports a lot. We all love sports because it’s fun and it keeps us healthy. I love sports because the feeling of competitism feels great when it courses through you. My brother and I have the same ego also. When we get tested by our athleticism, we want to prove it by playing the

From head to toe, Chloe and I look extremely similar. Her hair is long and blonde like mine, and our eyes are the same size and hazel in color. Our shoulders are similar. Our arms are long in comparison to our bodies. We have the same shirt size and our waists are the exact same measurement. We both have long legs, scattered with volleyball bruises. Our feet are exactly the same size.

This semester, we’ve learned a lot of things about what goes on in married relationships and cohabitation relationships. We’ve been taught how to deal with situations and changes that may occur within any relationship. In order to apply the research I’ve learned about, I have chosen to compare a few topic that took place in the movie Love and Basketball. This movie shows many gender roles, nonverbal behaviors, family impacts on relationships, and how communication is key.

The sight and sound of watching the basketball swish through the net are second to none. For this reason and much more, I have fallen in love with the game of basketball and all the sport has to offer. From an extremely young age until now I have played the game and I hope to be either playing or involved with the game as long as I live. I have tried many other sports including soccer, football, and lacrosse but none can compare to the pleasure and passion that I have for basketball. This has become more than a sport for me, it has become a passion and something that I have dedicated my time, energy and hard work into.

We all have friends that are alike or different from each other. My friend Nicole and Amy are also friends. Both of them are alike in some ways, but at the same time unlike from each other. For example, they both dress to their comfort, but the clothes they choose to wear are different. They both have similar taste in music and television shows. However, Nicole and Amy are more different than alike.

Within Hollywood’s movies depiction of drug addiction, many have failed to represent all true aspects that come along with such lifestyles. The movie, The Basketball Diaries, is based off a novel Jim Carroll wrote from his own diary entries. As a teenager growing up in the sixties, Carroll reveals his progression of drug abuse which eventually leads him addicted to heroin.Heroin is a white powder derived from morphine found in opium. It is commonly prescribed as a painkiller, but is also a popular street drug.The director casted Leonardo DiCaprio as Jimmy, and concentrates on creating the character as a stereotypical drug abuser. The sport of basketball is known as a fun past time for any person young or old. Basketball is a great way of exercise and a great way to have fun with friends and possibly make some new ones. I love to watch and play the game, basketball is a very entertaining sport and can be played by anyone. Basketball has many negative and positive things about it based on my opinion. Basketball is known as a good pastime in many people’s eyes but can also be seen as a passion for many others. Basketball in my opinion the best thing I can do with my friends to have fun while burning a few calories. I see basketball as a fun and easy way to have fun rather than sitting on the couch all day playing video games or watching television. One reason I love
