Jeffersonian Ideology
Thomas Jefferson is a major figure in our American History. He was one of the people they referred to as “Renaissance Men” because of his benefactions as a politician, statesman, diplomat, intellectual, writer, scientist, and philosopher. Jefferson was exceedingly intelligent and was very influential in proclaiming the equal rights of citizens. Jefferson had a very strict interpretation for the Constitution and took many actions to try and enforce his vision. He strongly visualized a nation where everyone farmed, but many things got in the way of that. Jefferson also strongly believed in the will of the people. He also wanted the central government to use the least amount of money possible. That being said he took action and ended taxes, made the army and navy smaller, and paid off the government’s debt. Jefferson’s presidency was committed mostly to equal rights. Stating in his inaugural address his vision was everyone possessing equal rights and liberty while the law is protecting those attributes. Jefferson was known for being an amazing thinker in the American politics even outside of his policies in his presidency. His advanced thoughts of what was important in life originally came from his appreciation for farming. His vision for a prosperous America was everyone farming. This is one of the times Jefferson showed his hypocrisy. He was telling everyone that everyone is created equal and treat everyone the same when he was a slave owner his whole life. Seeing Jefferson as hypocritical might be different if he had tried fighting for the slaves, but he simply stated they were racially inferior because they were African American. George Washington had even owned slaves but, he set them free, unlike Jefferson. Jefferson is one of the most powerful people to impact our rights. Even though the Declaration of Independence, that he wrote, states that all men are created equal, he was a slave owner his whole life without seeing an issue. Even though Jefferson did not believe in independence for slaves, he still did a lot for our country. He fought for many equal rights and achieved many goals in his vision for our nation. Jefferson knew all about equality and how “all men are created equal” and should be treated that way. No matter the color of their skin or what clothes they wore, they all were people and people should be treated the same way. The Pennsylvania Magazine of History and Biography says, “Jefferson is best known as a statesman whose belief in natural rights, equality, individual liberties, and self-government.” Jefferson ideas seem like every day situation, but to Douglass he would have done anything to make his people taste freedom. Thomas Jefferson was an extremely influential politician and there were many implications that came out of his eight years of presidency in the areas of race, sectionalism and partisan politics. Despite the copious flaws and implications of Jefferson's actions while in office, he accomplished some daunting tasks that aided the development of the young nation. Jefferson was a very controversial leader because it frequently seemed like he was using his power to further the Southern agenda. Having said that, many of his policies and other accomplishments while in office had lasting effects that had implications seen later in the 19th century and through the 21st century as well.
Jefferson was the founder of the Democratic-Republic Party and believed in an agrarian society with strong local governments (i.e. a weak central government). He thought that the states should yield most of the power so that the citizens could control what happens to them

In the American Declaration Independence of 4 July 1776 by Roberto Hole pointed “Men had rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and that to secure these rights, governments instituted among men, deriving theirs just powers from the consent of the governed; that whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles, and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness.” (Hole 39, 40). Thomas Jefferson did not believe in racial equality, and thought that blacks were intellectually inferior. However in one of the most important documents in American history is the Declaration of Independence written by Thomas Jefferson himself, he says ”We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by there creator...” Jefferson knew that his ownership of slaves contradicted his principles. What Jefferson wanted most was for slaves to one day be free, he wanted them to go back to Africa. He refused to grant freedom to his own slaves because of their significances to his wealth, but overall he condemned slavery.
Thomas Jefferson was an early American politician, who was well-known for his actions during his presidency. He was labeled as a Democratic-Republican, meaning he favored stronger rights of individual states, rather than a central government with a lot of power. That is, at least in the years prior to his presidency. After he was elected, however, his convictions totally changed. During his presidency, three major events; his war with the Barbary Pirates, his restrictive economic policies, and the Louisiana Purchase, all directly contradicted the beliefs of himself and other Democratic-Republicans.
Jefferson accomplished a lot while he was president that affected everyone at this time and even us today. While Jefferson was president, he wrote the Declaration of Independence. It was written to declare the independence the colonies had from Great Britain. He also stated that all men should be created equally and stated that slavery is against our most important rights, life and liberty itself. Jefferson wrote a bill establishing that all virginia schools were to give all children male or female, get three years of teaching in writing, reading arithmetic and history. He also came up with the Louisiana Purchase. It was land deal between the U.S. and France. In order to buy all this land he used Hamilton 's finacial plan, which was a good plan until it provoked the
Jefferson felt very strongly about the freedom of an individual. His idea of freedom was that the individual was independent, and not under the control of a government for example. There were two main things that Jefferson was concerned with, debt and distrust of men who were landless workers (124). With the first he felt that while under debt a man had very limited freedom of action. The landless workers he felt were very dependent. They had to work because there was no land for backup. In these times owning property was an important part of being a free man. Perhaps this led to slavery for those who did not own land. Many think slavery was always race based, but Jefferson?s position shows a different view.
Following part II of my health behavior change, I will continue to discuss the frequency of my new exercising habits. Following this, I will discuss whether the strategies I proposed in part II improved my health behavior or not, and which one was the most successful. Next, I will discuss whether or not I think my health behavior change will last, and how my strategies and goal would change If I were to continue exercising long term. Lastly, I will apply two health behavior change concepts, while incorporating my attitude, cognitions, and strategies into those theories, and discuses the importance of these theories when one embarks on behavior change.
States rights were a thing that Jefferson was also very passionate about, as he believed that the central government was strictly meant to handle foreign affairs and that the states were able to govern themselves. Because of this, he strongly opposed the Alien and Sedition Acts, which he believed were a violation of states’ rights. In retaliation, he made the Kentucky Resolutions, limiting federal powers to what they were written in the Constitution. Although Jefferson was an avid supporter of common man, it seemed that he wasn’t as partial towards minority groups like Blacks and Native Americans. Jefferson owned slaves himself and had suggested removing Native Americans from their homes after the Louisiana Purchase.
Thomas Jefferson once said, “When the people fear the government there is tyranny, when the government fears the people there is liberty.” Thomas Jefferson believed the best government was the one that governs the least . Jefferson stressed how a small government with limited powers is most likely to leave the people alone and have them enjoy the Blessings of Liberty. Furthermore, Thomas Jefferson was a man who had numerous accomplishments in his life. He was the author of the Declaration of Independence, author of the Virginia Statute of Religious Freedom, founder of the University of Virginia, and the third President of the United States. His strict interpretation of the Constitution was due to his belief that the charter was designed to provide the people with a say in governmental affairs. Mr. Jefferson won the approval from the working class because he fought for them and not the powerful interests of the wealthy. Although Jefferson was a vocal and active leader in the rights of states, his recommendation of the Embargo Act and his support of the Non-Intercourse act resulted in his failure as the Commander In Chief.
Thomas Jefferson was an agrarian soul who favored popular rule. He placed his trust in the land and the people who farmed it and desired that America would remain a nation of farmers. He emphasized liberty, democracy, and social welfare and believed that

According to Wikipedia, he believed that a society could be built and function adequately enough just by the moral sense of an individual. Also according to Wikipedia, Jefferson was “sometimes seen as a philosophical anarchist”. He was “a man of the Enlightenment” and “was among the many intellectuals in both Britain and France.” He supported separating church from state, and religious freedom for every American. He was leader of the Democratic-Republican Party and founded the University of Virginia. In 1962, while President John F. Kennedy greeted the winners of the Nobel Prize to the White House, he stated, “I think this is the most extraordinary collection of talent and of human knowledge that has ever been gathered together at the White House—with the possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone.”
“The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.” Thomas Jefferson is arguably one of the most influential people to Virginia and the United States before and during the American Revolution. Jefferson had been a governor for Virginia during the American Revolution, he had wrote the Declaration of Independence along with four other notable American politicians, and served as a minister to France in 1785-1789. Without Jefferson the American Revolution most likely would have played out completely different and we could possibly be living a different life today.
Slavery is a major part of American history that many would like to forget ever happened. The ramifications of slavery are still apparent in the world today with black men accounting for the majority of incarcerated persons in the U.S. prison system. The black population also has the highest poverty rate among racial and ethnic groups. One cannot help but think about how these rates of incarceration and poverty among blacks are directly related to America's long history of slavery. Octavia Butler explores the world of slavery through the perspective of a twentieth century black female writer, Dana Franklin. Butler uses the science-fiction device of time travel to transport Dana and the reader back to the nineteenth century. Through Danas first person narration the reader is able to experience the atrocities and brutality of slave life firsthand.
